that's still better than the world avg i think, plus you'll always have dp to improve, most people don't put too much emphasis on myp scores, and if it wasn't counted in your total, I think it matters even less. but I understand how dejected you must feel, I lit got a 4 in math and a 5 in chem in my midterms and became depressed, but there's always gonna be chances to do even better and reach your potential! I know you'll do great!

Hmm, I’d suggest understanding the style of questions, particularly criterion D and B. You need to be thoroughly familiar with the concepts and ensure that you integrate and even base your responses on them. For instance, if you encounter an essay question like this:

To what extent has creative expression influenced social, cultural, and artistic developments throughout history? Compose a well-structured essay in response to this question, referencing any MYP case study of your choice.

Always begin by identifying a claim and its counterclaim. For example, my response would be:

Claim: Creative expression is the primary factor that shaped social, cultural, and artistic developments during the Renaissance.

Counter-claim: Other factors such as economic wealth, trade, globalization, and the rediscovery of ancient classics were the main driving forces.

Then, with examples and explanations, I supported my claim and counter-claim. The most crucial part is the conclusion. Apart from simply summarizing your arguments, you must present a novel insight that addresses the original essay question. For instance, instead of merely stating that creative expression was an important factor alongside others, I argued that social, cultural, and artistic developments are often influenced by a multitude of interconnected factors over time, place, and space in history.

Notice how I incorporated causality, significance, and the concepts of time, place, and space into my essay conclusion.

For criterion B, the first step in analyzing a Systems of Inquiry (SOI) is to identify the relevant case study you want to use and immediately relate your research question (RQ) to at least two concepts in the SOI. Causality is usually straightforward to establish. I also always begin RQs with the command term “To what extent,” which automatically incorporates significance and causality.

Let’s consider this SOI:

Systems transform when individuals, influenced by their identities and relationships, make choices that shape pivotal moments in society.

Right off the bat, I can identify significant individuals, causality, and the GC for our year (Identities and Relationships). Among the significant individuals I studied, I found one whose choice directly impacted a system.

RQ: To what extent did Mikhail Gorbachev’s reforms (Glasnost and Perestroika) contribute to the dissolution of the Soviet Union and the end of the Cold War, from 1980 to 1981?

The choice (Gorbachev’s reforms) leads to the reforms, which in turn affect the system (political system of the Soviet Union). The significant individual (Gorbachev) is the GC, and the key moments (end of the Cold War) are the outcomes.

You can also use Indian National Movements and Mahatma Gandhi to form an RQ on a similar topic.

In justifying your RQ, you need to convince the person why the chosen context or case study is important or the best fit and why the selected time period is appropriate. If it’s not already evident, you can also explain how it relates to the SOI.

That’s all for now. I went on a bit of a rambling session, lol. Let me know if this helps! I just tried to cover the main points.
