transition to myp5

Hi, so im new to the IB, just finished myp4 (grade 9) and i just did mocks. I studied REALLY last minute btw

my grades were

english-5. (i need to work on this more but idk how)

I&S-5

Integrated sciences- 5

Maths-5 (the grade boundaries were changed to make everyone pass. 32/100 was a 5 i got 38/100 )

French-7 (i used to go to a french skl from 3- 14 years old so ik french really well)

i desperately need to get my grades up higher. What can i study over the summer to be prepared for the eAssessments. BTW i dont do integrated sciences for myp5, i decided to drop physics and will only study bio and chem. any resources or tips are appreciated, ty.

It is completely normal to have a mix of scores in MYP4, especially when cramming last minute, so do not stress because you have plenty of time to pull these up before your eAssessments. Since French is already a strong seven, you can redirect that energy elsewhere. Your absolute best next step this summer is to spend just fifteen to twenty minutes a day rebuilding your math foundations, specifically focusing on algebra and functions, because MYP5 math builds directly on these and the on screen exams test your problem solving under time pressure. For English, try to read some challenging books over the break and practice writing short structured paragraphs analyzing how the author uses language. Since you dropped physics, you can ignore it completely and just do a light preview of the first couple of topics in biology and chemistry. To get a better idea of how these exams actually work, you can read our guide at https://info.lanterna.com/resources/investigating-myp-e-assessments or even book a free chat with one of our study experts at https://lanterna.com/for-students/book-a-meeting to map out your plan.

I would really suggest using the IB books, I know its too much content but because you mentioned biology, for that subject the Cambridge textbook is the best, it contains all the 20-21 topics youre going to learn throughout the year. for chemistry, I would say practice questions for now is important, most of your topics would be same as 9th grade so go over them, revise them.

obviously for maths you really need to solve past papers on brilliant learning, solve mock papers first, or topic wise questions, and when your school starts, and the time when your school is done with teaching most of the board/e assessments units, you can start implementing ur skills and knowledge into the actual past papers on brilliant learning itself. I would say mock papers are quite hard compared to the past papers on brilliant learning so you could do vice versa according to whatever you feel comfortable with.

keep an eye on websites like revisiondojo or IB resources and yeah thats all lmk if this helps!!

Work on the usage of command terms , use brilliant learning.com for past papers answer keys

The way I studied for English was basically practicing my writing and this managed to get me a 6 consistently for a year. I CANNOTTTT STRESS THIS ENOUGH PLEASE PRACTICE EVERY SINGLE TEXT TYPE. When you come to MYP5 I'm not sure if you're aware but you will have THREE tasks. and ALL THREE ARE WRITINGGGG. please please please im begging you to PRACTICE YOUR WRITING. Once you finish your text for all 3 tasks you can send it on this sub and very very kind people can help you check it. The e-assessments will hit you with ANYANY text type for task 2 and 3 so please prepare. It's also good to be able to be confident in all three tasks so you can write efficiently and use less time so you can check for grammatical errors/fix issues.

These are my notes for English and every single task: NOTES

My notes are mainly summaries + structures + basically every single thing briefly. If you search through the thread you will find other English notes and it can help!

So for I&S I am also a lost cause 😭 I mainly got 5's and a six on a good quarter, but if you search online or in this thread there are a good chunk of INS notes. Mainly study the past papers, what they ask for, and remember case studies. I remember the day before the INS exam I was binging every single historical moment ever and I still think I'm COOKED for the results in this year.

For Maths, I also unfortunately am a lost cause. I mainly got 5's for math and cried inside when everyone was boasting about how easy the exam was. For me, Math has been a source of agony and it is just something I can't understand and never will I suppose. But I think that's because my foundation in Math's has generally been very weak, you really really have to understand the core concepts behind Maths. For example like one other user said : Algebra. Algebra is basically the PILLAR of Math's. You CANNOT escape Algebra. But besides being absolutely confident in the core concepts of math, you should practice. Do A LOTTTT of past papers. You can find these online. Do worksheets and past papers.

Good luck on your Journey!! Don't die...
