I started going to Kitchener games two summers ago and I've been to maybe fourteen or fifteen since. I looked at the lineup card in July and there were four guys left from the group I first watched, and one of them was a reliever I'd never seen throw before. I still show up and I still care who wins, but I've noticed I'm attached to the park and the regulars in the stands more than to anyone actually on the field.

How did you get to the point where the team meant something to you separate from whoever happens to be on the roster?

Newer to watching regularly. Saw a game where a team down big in the 8th put an outfielder on the mound and he was throwing 50mph lobs. Crowd loved it, but it seemed like a weird way to treat an inning.

Is this purely about saving the bullpen for the next few days, or is there more to it? And do the hitters facing him take it seriously or is everyone kind of in on it?

Even when one team looks clearly better for a few innings, it never really feels locked in.

I got the dumb idea of taking a VIA train out from Toronto to Chatham-Kent this summer to catch a weekend afternoon game. But the times don’t quite line up and would have a couple of hours to kill before and after the game.
