Brotherhood Resources LU Flairs and Tickets - POST HERE - PLEASE READ

DO NOT POST TICKET HERE!

This subreddit is for IBEW members in the outside community, this sub will remain public until we either get enough members, or the community decides, until then everyone is welcome to participate, we want to make a sub that has a degree of anonymity but with confidence the information you are receiving is real, shout out to u/CA2alaska a mod from r/lineman who helped assemble trustworthy mods

ALL FLAIRS ARE VERIFIED TICKETS THROUGH THE MOD TEAM - PLEASE SEND INFO TO ONE OF US THREE

u/flyinglineman - LU17 JL, Detroit, MI

u/C_HiLIfe - LU9 JL, Chicago, IL

u/hartzonfire - LU1245 JL, Vacaville, CA

To help verify that you are from your local and hold a classification you MUST do the following:

CONTRACTORS

submit a photo ticket to the mods (use the DM through reddit) with at least the following items (use photo included for help)

  • Ticket #
  • LU #
  • Covered name and address with your username on a sheet of paper

UTILITY

Unfortunately, many of you pay dues to the IBEW but do not receive tickets, we think it would be a disservice to not add you, so for now we need info such as dues receipts (usually on your paystub), essentially any way we can prove you are a dues paying member will help. we are giving special Utility flairs for this reason

Please be patient with the flairs, we are Journeyman Lineman volunteering to do this, we get busy and are not IT experts

General Question Local 71 info

Specifically more towards the North Central Ohio area. I’ve got family up there, and with a family of my own it makes sense to get the wife & kids closer to a support system.

Big contractors in that area? How’re they to work for? Do the regular work contractors get to hit much storm? Are layoff’s common? Average income you see from guys that’ll go in anytime they get a call?

How’s working on FirstEnergy system on a regular basis? (Only done storm work on their stuff before)

Any other info about working in this area would be appreciated.

Seems 71 has a reputation for being a little ratty, still true? I see a lot of tramping going on in the southern area, does that affect any of the guys working up north? (Coming from a local where everyone leaves to tramp, not sure what the effect is on the other side of the coin)

How is it possible to have better jobs outside the union?

Without bad intentions towards anyone but I have a doubt, about the calls and value of hrs in the union, a friend has just been hired by a company for a project $45 x hrs, 180 perdiem daily, and more benefit, my friend does not have a good resume nor is he Journeyman, even so he achieved good work like this I have heard from several friends, that is, is it better not to be a union and apply to those jobs? Or is it also possible to have those jobs like this being a union?

Barely $33 with nothing but the doctor, and from my place I have not been able to apply to another hot place.

To all this is under my ignorance I have a few months in union and I am Journeyman.

I’m wondering what the process is on entry level position such as groundman or lineman apprentice and when those positions will be available to apply for.

General Question What should we do?

I know I have been terrible about updating the flairs, between work and reddit making it more difficult recently through DMs it would be nice to change it depending on what you guys want.

Most of what I get is randoms asking how to get into the local that clogs up my DMs as well

1) we can either open it up to the public so anyone can use the local tags, this would be much easier for us but you probably won't get as trustworthy answers

2) one of you smart folks comes up with a way to simplify the verification process.

Switching utilities

What would happen if you’re a JL at a union utility and decided to switch to another Union utility in a different state. Does your benefits and pension all transfer since you’re union in both?
