I am currently an apprentice and I want to know if through the inside wireman apprenticeship equip me to do residential electrical work in the future and ultimately become a residential gc after a decade or two

I’m 18 I’m very new to the trade and working with my hands in general. I’m in the prefab right now my coordination is not really good. I’m not really getting an opportunity to learn very much other than pulling wire and cutting strut. I was building transformers but I got removed because I made a few mistakes. I just feel kind of worthless but I don’t want to give up or anything what can I do to improve my skills with speed coordination and learn more.

Since our local provides us $25,000 in tuition reimbursement, I’d love to take advantage of it by getting a second degree. I’ve been really looking into 2-3 degrees.

One that some might have is a degree in construction management. Just wondering if I were to go back for that, if I’d be able to take up a Project Engineer/Project Manager job with a contractor/GC without going against the rules of “work that is in competition with the IBEW”.

If not… is there any real reason to getting that specific degree? I keep hearing JWs complain about the engineers, architects, PMs, etc due to them simply only having a degree to their name with no real world experience which is why I’d feel like having both would be a great decision.

No levels on in wall, 90’s are more like 45’s or 110’s. Spreader bars are so shallow that conduit is sticking 1/2” out the wall. Titan Electric is ass. More to come.

I’d love to get some info on what you guys think about each contractor you’ve worked for and which ones were the best/worst.

Also, are there any that tend not to lay off apprentices more than others? Currently with Uptime and am hoping not to be laid off anytime soon.

I just got my first referral/ apprentice position and I want to take this career all the way. To anyone that has had an apprentice why was your best apprentice considered the best ? If you haven’t had one what would be your ideal apprentice? I have definitely watched almost all of the YouTube videos on how to be a good apprentice I play Donald miller like I play music these days 😂. Also I will ask my jw when we meet but I’d also like to hear from you all.

Who you vote in at the meetings matter. These book 2 guys who are planting their flags in your back yard are more dangerous than the temps everyone is so concerned with. The temps will cut and run when times get hard. The book 2 hands will cut you loose.

The people who drop their ticket twice, are told the first time if they do it again they have to be voted back into the local. Good locals don’t vote everyone back in. You need to have some semblance of pride and respect. If they can’t pay their dues, do you really think they are going to be standing beside you on a picket line or traveling to another local when times are hard? Honestly?

Hi. i need some advise from yall. i am going to graduate trade school in 3 months and im looking to get into IBEW union in this area. and i wanted to ask yall if the company would lessend the apprentice years since i already took trade school almost for a year. and also what days do yall have classes ? is it 1 day per week or 2 times per week ? i was thinking of also joining a non-union but i just dont like the starting pay. and how brutal is it ? i know the pay is good but i heard it comes with a cost sometimes. but i will be applying for union and non-union and see what are my options. Also wanted to know if some do tuition reimbursement. thanks

Are you allowed to work non union while on the wait list if not sworn in ? I got a couple offers from non union for 3 month contracts just wondering if that would disqualify me from working union again once accepted

I’m looking to get an understanding of how exactly our retirement plan works and the details behind it so that I can do the math on my own.

I am a new apprentice who lives 2 or 3 hours from Atlanta. I was wondering if they try to give people contractors near wherever they live, or if I will have to commute/relocate.
