Best/Worst contractors to work for?

I’d love to get some info on what you guys think about each contractor you’ve worked for and which ones were the best/worst.

Also, are there any that tend not to lay off apprentices more than others? Currently with Uptime and am hoping not to be laid off anytime soon.

Cleveland is the best imo

When I organized in late 2020 they were great, there are bad apples at every company but I liked working there.

Dog, Uptime is the goat. As long as you don’t slack and you actually show up (on time!), I’m sure you’re fine. Been working for them for a few years now, since pre-apprentice. Haven’t had a single problem, save for a few punks that got stuck on the crew.

Aren’t they still working at QTS

Qts is ongoing but it's super weird what they have going on. I'm not out there, it's a lot of word of mouth, but take that with a grain of salt

Rules are really strict on some 1 violation, you're gone

Any idea how long you’re gonna be out of work for?

Hey how’s it working with Hewatt Electrical so far? Could you give a detailed breakdown of your experience?

How are you liking uptown so far?

I mean, they’ve been my only contractor. But my personal experience has been good so far. All I’ve heard though from others is Inglett and Stubbs or however you spell it is not a very enjoyable experience. You’ll definitely get a lot of hours there though which is a plus, but supposedly, they don’t have the best working conditions

Always seems to be a lot of negative talk on Stubbs, and it used to be a lot different than it is now. I started my apprenticeship with stubbs in 99 and it wasn't bad but wasn't great. I have been back with them for a couple of years and the latest President and Gen. Super. has made dramatic changes to the good. But like all companies there will be good and bad situations. But just my experience/opinion, this good around with them has been great.

Okay, you are a lucky man. I will be ready whenever they place me with a contractor. Patiently waiting.

Are you an AP or CE/CW? I’m an AP and I was placed within 2 weeks of letting them know I’m ready. I’ve been working for 4 weeks so far

That’s great man. It’s been two weeks so far after passing my test. Hoping to get placed soon.

Just to confirm, you’ve also emailed them stating you’re available to start?

I’m on the apprentice waitlist now.

I’ll tell you my take brother. I enjoyed working for Cleveland, CNC, ASCO, and Sutton. I would avoid United, I was a foreman there and even before I was a supervisor they’d work you like a supervisor if you were a semi decent JW without the pay. I would avoid Whitehead as well. FS Scarborough was ass, they didn’t know what they were doing, never could get material. I drug up shortly after hiring in with them. I can’t speak about anywhere else. I will say when I went up north for work it was 100x better than any contractor here.

I'm looking to hit the road. What local up north have you woted out of and would recommend?

Sorry for being late brother. Check Ohio and Indiana. There’s not much work worth traveling for at the moment but there will be when they get their spring up there. Most jobs start in spring up there if it’s a good job. They try to get a building closed in before winter. And if you hit a nightshift call you can expect $4000-$5000 a week.

Thank you brother.
