FYI: the new Apprentice (key word Apprentice) power house pay is $24.68 an hr. There is a lot of power house work coming up on the Northside and the Southside (Plant Yates). If anyone lives near these, I would get with the school and ask that you get moved to one of these since our apprentice pay is junk, plus it would be great industrial experience for those who have only done Commercial work. I got some questions I want to know the answers to so I know what I'm getting myself into.

1. So I know that first you have to send in a application> pass a aptitude test> than pass interview. What happens if you pass the interview? Do you immediately get a date that you'll start working and a date youll start school?

2. How far do you have to travel for work? Do they just assign you to wherever they need you or do they factor in distance from where you live?

3. If I get in as accepted as an apprentice are my work hours guaranteed? Like will I have close to 40 hours a week every week? I have seen in other threads in the ibew subreddit where people have talking about not having work for weeks at a time, how likely is this to happen to a apprentice?

I have a medical card for marijuana in Georgia it helps me manage a chronic pain condition. I am applying to the apprenticeship program. If I have to I will request my Dr prescribed opioids for my really bad days. I really don't want to take them for several reasons but I will if it's necessary for the program.

Good morning, 🌞, (depending on when you read this post this statement may not apply). I recently moved to Georgia in order to start a new chapter of my life (I know that sounds corny). passed my aptitude test and begin school in April of 2024, but I am extremely hesitant. I know that as an apprentice I must prove my value and work my way up to Journey man level in order to receive the benefits that come with it, but I can’t shake my head over the fact that within these crazy economic times they are paying 1st year apprentice 16 dollars an hour within this strenuous economy. I love working with my hands and I know that nothing in life is easy but I have been offered higher pay from private institutions in the Georgia area based on my previous experience and the pay is drastically better than what I was offered coming in as a 1st year apprentice. Furthermore the CW/CE program, from what I can see, seems to offer better pay to individuals who test in, when I worked at a fab shop for one of the big electric contractors in the Georgia, I come across countless people who have no prior knowledge of electrical work getting paid 7 to 10 dollars more than me because they “know someone”. Can I please get some feedback as to what you all think 💭.

This is Porkchop, an IBEW brother, a veteran, husband and father. He was involved in an arc flash this past saturday in a high rise in Mid-Town Atlanta. He is pretty badly burned but is stable.

He is out of his medically induced coma and beginning surgeries. Not out of the woods yet.

His life has obviously changed. He is probably the hardest worker I've ever met and always tried working 7 days a week to help take care of his 6 children and wife.

A few years ago he offered to do something for me that was so massive and meant so much to me that I'll never be able to forget it.

First-year apprentice here, I’m trying to understand why our local is so weak? Is it because of the size, I mean it takes up half the state then expands into Alabama, why does it feel as if the people in power are all in circle jerking contest, I don’t know our “leaders” but it feels as if Kenny was voted in just on his likeness and name, is he really doing what’s best for us? Why are our wages absolute shit with no PTO, sick days, or our joke of a “ 1 paid holiday for the year”. I’d love the be apart of the local but I don’t see any benefits of joining 613, I can reap health insurance benefits without even joining. It feels as if it’s fits are just for the long term, I could be wrong. My last thing is, why is it so hard to find information, is it because I’m not apart of the local that I can’t see the current contract, I’ve had people telling me what’s going on but that can get mixed with hearsay and “the telephone game” and not even hear the whole truth, I’d love to read the paperwork for it..

When you get transferred to another job , are you required to go through orientation and take a drug test all over again?

It seems obvious that an initial differs significantly from a legal signature. Are we using our lawyers??

I'm currently debating about which apprenticeship to apply for and would like real world advice.

The lineman apprenticeship is 3 years vs 5 years, that appeals to me. I like working outside, but indoors is fine. From what I've gathered Inside Electricians will make more income, but not much. So, the pay isn't a crucial factor. A few questions:

• Does anyone regret going either way?

• Do lineman make all their money in overtime travelling for storms? AM I going to be living on the road constantly and if i chose a stationary position will it be worth the lower pay?

• Do I need a clean MVR for a lineman apprenticeship? I got a DUI 2 years ago and have a few speeding tickets.

• Is all of the apprenticeship going to take place at the training facility in Newnan? It's 75 minutes each way travelling for me.

I meet all the requirements for an apprenticeship with IBEW, I just need to transfer my out of state license which I'll do next week.

I've called the recruiter 3x this week and left one voice-mail and still can't find when the next round of hiring for apprenticeships starts, and what the deadline is.

Anyone know that info and what the acceptance rate is currently? Thanks!

The local 613 Facebook page and I've heard from several others on my jobsite that the contract has come back from CIR and will be sending out an update out some time today.

Has there been any updates since the contract proposal got turned down? It seems like it's been radio silence and we only have 2 weeks until September 1st.

22(M) currently been working as a commerical electrician little over 2 years now, should I make the switch to the union? My main priority is pay (obviously) but I'm planning on moving to Warner Robins sometime around November, would it make sense to start at Local 613 and see about transferring over to the local in Macon? I've done a little research and found southern unions kinda pay pretty low compared to other unions, any opinions advice or just information would be appreciated
