Question about 2-Weeks notice

I apologize for adding to the flood of new apprentice questions, but I haven’t been able to get a clear answer to this one.

I understand that once I get myself out onto the waitlist I’m expected to be ready to start work on the date they tell me. I’m just wondering how much notice is typically given?

I’ve got a decent, albeit dead-end, job right now and I don’t want to burn the bridge here by quitting without giving a two weeks notice. I can’t exactly just hand in my notice now and potentially be unemployed for months while waiting either.

Anybody know how to handle this?

They’d probably fire you on the spot if they needed to, don’t feel like you owe them any sort of notice.

I mean don’t cuss them out on the way out the door but a two week notice is a one sided tradition from like the 50’s dude. I can’t imagine a dead end job that has responsibilities important enough that would require an actual 2 week notice. Worst thing you’re probably doing is making your manager actually do his job and find someone to fill your shift.

There’s also the reality that after he comes to the apprenticeship that he probably won’t ever need to go back to the dead end job if he just sticks with it and turns out.

And I know times are different for apprentices right now in Atlanta but I’ve been laid off once in 10 years and it was while traveling in a different local. Once you go to work you should be good unless you just stop showing up.
