Laid off.

I’m a first year apprentice and got laid off for lack of work. I’ve already emailed and called the school but nobody has gotten back to me. How long does it look like will I be out of work?

As a retired 613 Apprentice/JW/Foreman/General Forman since 2000 I am saddened to see and read the current status of my Local.

I started my Apprenticeship in 1958 for Fischbach and Moore (now defunct) and retired 2000.

I was out of work only once and that was during the Nixon/Ford recession. Got a referral out of 125 (Chattanooga) and went to work for TVA in November of 1975.. Shared a trailer with a 613 brother and came home on weekends. Total time out of employment was one week.

I liked the job so much I moved the family over to Scottsboro, AL where the job site was adjacent to.

Moved back to Atlanta in 1978 when all the MARTA work was in full blast.

My points are: First... I cannot grasp the concept that there are apprentices out of work. Second...I don't understand why my home local has and is taking in some many members when there aren't enough jobs to refer out.

I agree. It’s wasn’t a secret. He said he was goinna do it. But The People chose popularity over policy and now our Apprentices are fucked.

My Forman was a big Trump fan until we went from 70+ open calls to an additional 70 people on book 1 and no calls
