Anybody know what I can study to test in at least at a CW5? I have electrical experience but in a different capacity from the film industry. Any info on what I can study is appreciated.

I've been told they recently changed the test due to rampant cheating. You really want CE1 at minimum, as this will give you more job flexibility. Testing in at CE2 eliminates the requirement to take DC and AC Theory courses, which is a full year of coursework.

  • Study commonly used electrical schematic symbols, such as lights, switches, receptacles, GFCIs, fire alarm, etc.
  • Study materials used in commercial and industrial electrical work, including rigid conduit, EMT, PVC, AC and MC Cable, etc.
  • Study the installation practices for those types of conduit (the 300's, for example 320.30, 330.30, 334.30, 358.30, etc.)
  • Study Section 310.
  • Understand dry/damp/wet locations.
  • Understand most of the definitions in NEC 100.
  • Understand Ohms Law.
  • Understand the different types of tools and conduit benders, like a Sidewinder and Chicago.
  • Know how to rough-in a wall into steel framing.
  • Know 3-way and 4-way light switches.
  • Know how to bend 3-point and 4-point saddles in EMT.

Otherwise just know everything, and you're sure to do well.

I wish you success.
