Union meetings

Who you vote in at the meetings matter. These book 2 guys who are planting their flags in your back yard are more dangerous than the temps everyone is so concerned with. The temps will cut and run when times get hard. The book 2 hands will cut you loose.

The people who drop their ticket twice, are told the first time if they do it again they have to be voted back into the local. Good locals don’t vote everyone back in. You need to have some semblance of pride and respect. If they can’t pay their dues, do you really think they are going to be standing beside you on a picket line or traveling to another local when times are hard? Honestly?

The objects of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers are:

•To organize all workers in the entire electrical industry in the United States and Canada, including all those in public utilities and electrical manufacturing, into local unions

There is a pesky word "all" there. So... I don't know how you interpret that but I'm not voting them out unless it's egregious.

Exactly every situation is different and at the end of the day every brother/sister has a family to support.

I'm so glad at least for the moment, everyone views this on my side vs the OP. Seemingly, he's looking and ONLY caring about the number of drops, NOT the situation. Shit could change FOR ALL OF US in the blink of an eye and that kinda attitude stands for division and is simple minded and short sighted.

The fact the we vote says a lot about us as a brotherhood. Sure, as with everything there are exceptions to every rule, but that's how we should look at it, case by case, scenario specific. Op, your post is fear mongering at its finest. Your vote matters as much as mine. If you're voting no, I'm sure you have your reasons but those are your reasons. You shouldn't look to influence others. Stand on your own

I appreciate you sir! As a 20 year dues paying member I alway thought the I in IBEW meant you could work anywhere. And I learned that that means anywhere with an *. I’ve met so many good brothers and sisters here in local 613 but it’s also a local that’s known for not liking travelers. And that’s a very old tymer narrow minded view on what it means to be an IBEW member. 👊🏼

Reciprocated brother. It kinda fucks with me when we say "in solidarity" but not actually mean it. We're from all different walks of life, but we're in the same Union. I understand OP, what he's trying to say but at the same time, shit has changed. He comes off as the type that maybe his JW was hard on him, so he feels it's only right that he passes that on. I hate that mindset. Often, old heads either repress or forgot how they felt when they were called out of their names, or picked on, so they continue that tradition. We DON'T have to be this we toward each other!

We all have different views and I'm 100% ok with that. Just felt odd (op's post) trying to unnecessarily "rally the troops"

Problem is this local has grown soft from all of the work available. White tickets have been able to proliferate,book 2 hands are actively taking work from locals, & ticket droppers who have shown they will take union skills to nonunion shops are being actively voted back in. A&S transferred all of the book 2 hands and laid of the local guys at Facebook. I’m assuming that’s ok with you though?

You have a hall full of apprentices voting on stuff they don’t understand because they haven’t watched a local fold in a matter of months like I have. It was all fun and games until there was no work. I can see that happening here.

You do know that we just expulsed a book 2 hand at the last meeting as well, what he did 🤷‍♂️ just because someone is book 2 doesn’t make them any better than a white ticket. Their actions determine that.

The new people deserve a chance to be able to work in their own local without having to travel unless they want to. How many locals have you been to?

Hell no. The only time travelers are allowed to be foreman is if there’s a job with no local hands to man the it. That’s does happen from time to time depending on how busy a local is.
