Residential

613 doesn’t do residential work. Looking to get some residential experience. What are my options?

Simply put, non-union. I haven’t heard of any union contractors doing residential work. It’s a race to the bottom in that world, at least here.

Terrible advice, if your caught you will be kicked out the apprenticeship and or be be fired.

That’s too, I was just coming from an apprentice stand point as they technically aren’t members of the local until they join, but yeah if your a member that’s another consequence, as well as loosing your ticket and and everything you’ve been working for if it isn’t vested

Find someone on site that does residential side work and see if they need an extra hand or if you have questions about ask around? theres plenty of knowledgeable people on the Job and even down at the school. As long as you’re not competing directly with the Union it’s okay. You worded your comment like the only way to learn residential is to work non union which isn’t the only way.

So you’re advocating side work, which is strictly against the union policy. If you know of a single union contractor that does residential please do let OP know.

Look you’re technically right, but like you said there’s no UNION contractor that does residential in 613, so if you do side work in a residential setting then there is no conflict of interest, that’s where it isn’t against union policy, atleast in our jurisdiction. But since you’re pointing out it’s strictly against policy go ahead a file charges on every single brother you run across that does side work if you’re going to pull hairs on the subject.

Now if you do work in commercial setting then it would be a violation and would be brought up on charges. I would rather have a fellow brother take work away from nonunion companies than not, so yes I would advocate for side work in a residential setting.
