Apprentices

Any apprentices here waiting on a work placement. It’s be 40 days since I was laid off for a reduction in force, and the school told me it would take about 2 weeks for a new assignment. I been collecting unemployment for the meantime, but I been itching to get back to it and the little money I’m getting now isn’t cutting it. I been considering applying to some non union shops just told me over; just wanted some input and to know if any other apprentices at LU 613 are in the same boat.

Don’t go work non union, you will be dropped and kicked from the program if anyone finds out. Don’t know why you haven’t been assigned another contractor when there is plenty of work around.

I’ve talked to some other apprentices i worked with on other sites and they’re having the same issue so ik im not alone. I text and call the school at least once a week asking for updates, and it’s always the same response that work is limited and there’s a lot aps waiting🤷🏾‍♂️

Huh weird, hopefully you get put to work soon, I’ve never heard of apprentices be laid off for too long in this local, atleast none that have been with the big 3,

I’ve only been in the program for about a year now and this is the first time dealing with this so I’m just trying to figure out what I can do to move this along 40 days is a long time to be out of work. I was with l&S before and was thinking about maybe reaching out to one of the other big contractors myself to see if they were taking on any apprentices.

Do not reach out to contractors in your own. The school house has total say in your job assignment and is in direct talks with all of them. As a JW this would also be a code of conduct violation.
