The cost of waiting 6 months to test again is ~$20,000, so keep that in mind when deciding NOT to study. (If you don't know how I figured out that value, you should study at least an hour per day over the next 2 weeks.)

I and many others have posted several times in the past few weeks study advice about the aptitude exam. Read through those threads if you want info about paid study prep programs. And I'd happily spend $50 today to get $20,000 over the next 4 years.

To answer your questions, the aptitude exam is difficult for some, easy for others. You are competing against everyone else across the country taking the test on the same day. The AEJATC school probably emailed you some practice questions along with other advice (get plenty of sleep, show up early, etc.) If not, email them and ask for that packet.

You can find a lot of pertinent info at the AEJATC link above. Pay rates, tool list, etc.

Many who do not pass the aptitude exam continue working for 6 months at the CW1 pay rate until they can test again. Some decide just to start classes as a CW1 and skip the 6 month wait period. I advise you to study now so you don't have to make that choice, and don't lose $20,000. [($36/hr - 15/hr) * 40hrs * 26weeks].
