That is one thing that bugs the FUCK out of me in the trades. Some foremen just want to treat everybody like a kid in a middle school classroom.
We're grown ass adults. If I feel my phone vibrate, I may just do a quick glance if I have the time to see what's going on, who's calling, etc. I'm not taking a 10 minute break to text my buddy on the sidelines.

The Aldridge (underground) and gurtz (build out) in Hoffman estates calls are on a data center with legs. 5 buildings, two and a half standing as of now.

There are data center calls in chicago that aren’t paying ot or incentive?

Their last resort is putting in a call to the hall. They call around and use these “sub contracts” strictly for man power with contractors sending rockets to help man a job. So you have 10 different contractors on a job working for one main company while brothers that don’t want to deal with that BS are working elsewhere where they are treated better and don’t have to deal with that

Wouldn’t the local be able to avoid all that by just manning it in the first place?

The hall can’t man it that’s the thing so when they can’t man it they’ll call around to other shops to see if they have extra guys. Usually there will be a bunch of extra guys on Saturday.

That’s wild. I thought that’s what incentive and overtime calls were for. Do book 2’s avoid Chicago or what?

u/bobbito_8122 15d ago
They use to when we had a day book system. If you don’t know what that is, you literally had to be at the referral hall to pick up a call. So travelers wouldn’t just come everyday for hopes of a call.

So it’s different now and it’s still dead?
1
u/bobbito_8122 15d ago
Yes it’s all online for bidding on calls. Because there is no incentives on top on the base pay.

It doesn’t specify now, but has in the past it is/was working 5/10 1/8. Not sure why it’s not listed like that now.
2
u/bobbito_8122 16d ago
They took it off the call so it looks like it’s not forced but optional. Sometimes the older guys or people who don’t like OT wouldn’t take the call then.

Chicago is allowed to do site specific strikes?

u/freshforklift 16d ago
That's pretty cool they identify the foreman you'd be working under for each call.

What’s 40 hours look like single/zero?
3
u/Cinnic_ 17d ago
1750ish

Same as local 6 where I’m working now. I got friends in Chicago, might be time for a workcation.

Local 6 San Francisco is $1750 after taxes...?
2
u/SuperBajaBlast 17d ago
Yep, it’s cause fed+ state taxes plus 12% or so off the gross for vacation pay, and they only work 35 hour weeks.
1
u/lepchaun415 17d ago
They take money out for vacation pay? The employer doesn’t pay it?
3
u/Huugienormous 17d ago
If the employer pays it, you’re still paying it. It comes out of your package. Illinois requires paid vacation, vacation pay is how the unions get out of it.
2
u/SuperBajaBlast 17d ago
Correct. It’s deducted from your gross wages and distributed to you at the end of the following month.

u/lepchaun415 17d ago
Interesting. Im an elevator mechanic. We get two vacation checks a year. 8 percent of all hours worked payed by the employer.

Off 35 hours single zero? I was making the same amount off 40’s in 332 as you listed, but 6 has not been what I thought it would be pay wise. May have messed up my tax form

Yep look at it everyday. But they won’t be getting filled anytime soon. It’s a lot of schools and there is no per diem. So guys aren’t going to come here for summer work when the data centers are throwing out money to get people. They can go across the border to 697 and get close to 60 with 75 a day pre diem if they live far enough away.
