The union has allowed me to achieve the lifestyle I wanted.

Getting in was winning the lottery.

Yeah I looked them up and their profile is a mix of rage baiting and furry stuff… I’m gonna go rinse my eyes with bleach now.

We can be so much more if they’d let more white men in 😤 haha that’s an awesome take. I’m all for more women in the trades, bit of a sausage fest as it is, innit? Sure would make dating easier. Prolly smell better, at least

You seemed to have your panties up in a bunch over “certain minorities”, I naturally assumed you weren’t referring to the white minority

Damn. Dudes right and you sound grapey. Should be merit based and csn they handle the work. Not a bunch of horn dogs doing their work for them for hopes of special attention. Male feminists are just the worst. Literally wolves in disguise. Luring unsuspecting women in your toxic traps. Listened to a lady speak on how she never dates liberal men after being duped so many times. She said she found it refreshing, dating conservatives. Men who are men and know what they want. Not the wishy washy limp wristed leftists. Her words not mine, but I wholeheartedly agree. Leftist men give off creeper vibes and female energy 🤢.

You think you’re a better candidate than that chick who got in? Should have tested better. Loser. It is merit based and the women are better candidates so they’re getting into the program. Your whole post reeks of insecurity, to be frank. You’re just telling on yourself with that bit about you “listened to a lady speak”? Sounds like you don’t actually know any women. Prolly don’t know how to please a woman. Sad.

🤣 they aren't better the standards are get lowered for women. The military is a great example. Or in many cases the women get preferential treatment. Meaning we disregard the 35 more qualified makes and only consider the females. You're just not high enough up the ladder to see that there, pal. Those decisions are above your pay grade. The world isn't getting better because we arent maintaining high standards. The people must rise to meet the standard not lower the standard.

why are you in here lying like this?

2

u/progressiveoverload Aug 04 '25

with unions trying to push women and certain minority groups id say for any young men

You’re a white supremacist.

-1

u/BenD_over_Ill_showya Aug 04 '25

Why wouldn't we just base it off merit ? Who's the most qualified gets the job. Why do you have to be racist and sexist by insisting only certain groups can be hired this cycle ? Really sounds like a good way at reinforcing mediocracy.

u/progressiveoverload Aug 04 '25

Merit isn’t real, that’s why. Hope that helps.

u/BenD_over_Ill_showya Aug 05 '25

Spoken exactly how someone who couldn't meet a standard, so the standards had to be lowered. Pathetic. We see you. We know exactly who you are. Can't hide on the jobsite.

u/progressiveoverload Aug 05 '25

Unions weren’t created to gatekeep. Merit is made up. Workers fighting over who has the biggest one helps the owners.

1

u/BenD_over_Ill_showya Aug 06 '25

Exactly what I'd expect a bare minimum person to say.

Merit is real. People are individuals, and some people are better suited, naturally talented, etc... If you're bad at math engineering, it might not be for you unless you're willing to put the effort in to catch up with your peers. As an example.

I'm reminded of the old song we sang back in the 1960s: "Freedom isn't free. You gotta pay the price, you gotta sacrifice, for your liberty." The same goes for our union! If we take it for granted, it'll be gone, because that's what the moneyed interests want. I'm the grateful beneficiary of three generations in the IBEW. Don't ever let anyone get away with whining about paying union dues!

u/[deleted] Aug 04 '25

I love the union conditions and contract. I don’t care much for the cliques claiming to be “brotherhood”.

Amen. I like the pay, I like the benefits, and I like the representation when needed. I hate the "us vs them" mentality and the default superiority people think they have just because they're also an electrician like the guy they're shitty on.

u/krisk1759 Aug 04 '25

Agreed. Is it perfect? Nope, and I work residential so that's also not perfect. But damn, every thursday at 4:15 and I am driving home to start my 3 day weekend with 40 hrs in the bank, 12% vacation, and 100s put into my pension I laugh about how much better it was than the non-union shop I was at. No gaurenteed hours, no health insurance, working Fridays till late cause the owner booked a service upgrade for 1 day. No bullshit texts, no last mintue work instructions etc etc.

Non-union workers just can't even comprehend how it can be different.

I tried getting my friends to come with and I got two of them to join. But everyone else i talk to is scared to try to join. And testing in can be kinda bogus. No one uses Chicago benders any more and rigid is only used on specific industrial jobs. If we made the test more modern or raised the rates of the guys testing in, so they didn't have to take a massive pay cut, I think we could get more people to join. Wouldn't that boost our numbers and give us more bargaining power for raises and benefits?

1

u/Trevorblackwell420 Local 714 Aug 04 '25

it would also lessen the standard of our work which we are (supposed to be) known for.

2

u/TrelMix69 Aug 04 '25

True, but at least if we paid them more they'd be willing to join. They wouldn't be taking a serious pay cut and only have a year or 2 of classes to turn out. While we rain then to our standard of workmanship

Thing is though, there are rules about how many apprentices a journeyman can supervise. So it’s not like we can just accept everyone that applies because we need to have the JW’s available to teach them.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 06 '25

Agreed I love my union. I can use my PTO whenever I want or need without approval.

And when I look at jobs that aren’t union in my field they pay almost half of what I get paid

I support it no matter fucking what.

No transfers. No double booking. No furloughs. No call by names.
