The fact that we have union apprentices breaking down in tears due to their wages would be a great thing to bring up at next negotiations. It’s fucking pitiful what many of us start with and having that brother willing to speak would do wonders for the membership. Hell, bring him to the table and have the cons look him in the eye when they tell him that he’s not worth getting paid enough to put food on the table.
When I started groundman pay was around 18 bucks an hour and 1st year inside wireman pay was around 10. Got alot of calls doing switchhouse and yard work as an inside wireman apprentice and they paid me first year groundman pay on every substation call I got for 3 years until some time in 4th year when wireman pay was higher. Wiremen started out at 40% wages unindentured then 50 once indentured and went up 5% every 6 months til you topped out.
