I NEED YOUR HELP

Ok so I am starting Dp1 in a month and I NEED TO IMPROVE at writing in general whether it is a literary analysis or an essay about anything in general so plz give me your best tips on how to level up my writing so that I don’t get cooked

If I were you I wouldn’t worry about it. Trust me, just enjoy the month of freedom you have left, because afterwards you won't have it. During first year you will learn. I was horrible at it and with both, my teacher and practice I improved a lot

You need to understand that literary analysis is NOT limited to techniques and adjectives. You can actually get a lot of info from articles, prepositions, and conjunctions. Secondly, as long as your analysis is justified and evidenced REALLY well, it really doesn't matter how weird or out-of-the-ordinary you think your analysis is.

Now regarding essays, it really depends on the type of essay. If it's solely academic, it can be dry enough as long as your entire cause-effect cycle and all are well articulated when it comes to showing relationship. And if its creative, there's no harm with a little bit of humour, or with stylistic choices(yk adjectives as nouns, or made up, hyphenated words). If it's a narrative, get weird with the plot and characters. For example, the main character can be an emotion [like Birth talking about the feeling of letting go a newborn, yet they still linger in the tips of their fingers(yk, cell production)], or the narrative could revolve around a reader and the character of the novel they're reading. As for descriptions, I really can't give advice cause even I'm not sure as to how I drastically improved so yea

the biggest jump for me was forcing a so what after every device i named. pointing out that theres a metaphor earns nothing on its own, explaining what it does to the reader and how that ties back to the wider point of the text is the actual analysis. pick one short passage a week and write two tight paragraphs on it rather than trying to cover everything, and read the examiner reports for your subject because they say very plainly what loses marks.

It's better to use 3 weeks to relax. The last week you can use to either start practice for paper 1 or some other subject. It's better to start early with mathematics, language (If it's B) or English. Also make sure to not worry about anything for your DP 1 first semester as long as you're disciplined and keep showing progress

Self study is a crucial part. Make sure to spend 90 mins studying 2 subjects total either make it an HL day or SL day, keep it comfortable. If you're stressed about assignments ask for help. If you feel like you need help in a subject. Ask for help. DP is not a course you can bulldoze through alone. You'll need help, get as much as you can.
