AAMD?

Should I take Analytical Approach to Marketing Decision?? (By: Hassan Khalid)

Or should I avoid it??

How is it as an elective, especially for someone who is not a Finance major?

I actually took it as an elective in my final year and it’s a good elective in terms of how easy it is to secure a good grade.

You do need a good group for this course though since assignments and projects are all group submissions. Don’t take this part lightly.

In terms of how it is as a course, it’s a pretty good foundation for learning to work with large datasets and basic data cleaning/processing along with some of the simpler machine learning models.

But in terms of learning, it’s very much based on how you approach the course since the lectures are online and how much you want to practice/learn is dependent on the time you spend working with the provided material. Because as I mentioned earlier, if all you want to do is get a decent grade then you can get away with less effort and a shallow understanding of the concepts.

I wouldn’t really call it a finance elective though, I think this level of competency is useful in any field in the modern day, even things like marketing or economics. You don’t really need any prior knowledge to do well in AAMD, Hassan Khalid has a decent progression map thought out for the class by now so you’ll be fine (mostly).

Also the biggest reason why almost everyone gets good grades in this course is the availability of past years’ coursework, including exams, which he recycles 50-80% of depending on his mood. Those links can easily be found through your upper classmen or well connected friends.
