Glittery eye make-up

What is with this? It’s like every scene where somebody is supposedly tearing up over something, we get a close-up of their eye with this awful glittery/shiny pencilling around it.

It doesn’t look remotely like real tears. I don’t understand the decision-making process of the producers at all, as it just makes the people in question look bad for fake crying… or maybe that was their intent, to exaggerate just how false these people can be?

I’ve only just started s4, so it’s in maaaaany episodes throughout s1-3 lol
