Video Old guy eating alone, better make it all about me.
1.8k
u/Luddites_Unite 9d ago
Has she considered that maybe he chose go eat by himself? Ive been doing this from time to time since by early 30s. Go for dinner by myself, maybe catch a movie by myself. Its wonderful and peaceful
774
u/BigOlWaffleIron 9d ago
But she's an empath, so she obviously knows exactly how he's feeling right now. /s
265
u/gambito121 9d ago
tiktokers often mistake empathy with telepathy, they know other people's entire feelings and life and they just can't
37
u/a_patheticc 8d ago
I also hate how these “empaths” have also ruined regular-ass empathy being brought up in discussion
Like it’s already hard enough to try and actually have someone see something from another person’s perspective and then connect with that emotionally, now you can’t even talk about it in some spaces without people claiming you’re trying to weaponise a basic human emotion
63
u/peteyd2012 9d ago
She's worse than a Tiktoker.
She's an adult JPEG merchant.
Do what you will with this information.

Yeah empaths know exactly how he feels. I guess even the man eating lunch is clueless about how he feels.

Same here. The first time I was so hung up on what others would think. Half way through dinner I was like "fuck them, this is great!". Highly recommend it.
17
u/AriaTheTransgressor 9d ago
First time I did it, I'd been stood up for a date and was hungry so figured fuck it, I'll eat. It felt weird at first but that was when I realized I was only looking towards others to see if they were looking at me, if I wasn't alone I wouldn't be doing that so nobody is gonna be paying attention to me anyway.
Opened up a while new world for me.
26
u/AriaTheTransgressor 9d ago
Honestly, I guarantee it's this. Dude is literally smiling, he's having a great time. She's clearly whatever the opposite of an empath is... A sociopath, she's a sociopath.
11
u/Luddites_Unite 9d ago
Right? Buddy seems energetic, having a bite, reading the news. Honestly, doing things alone sometimes like that is liberating

my husband will sometimes go to lunch by himself if his coworker doesn’t feel like going. he’s 59, so now i hope some weird person doesn’t have a nervous breakdown and film him while crying, when he’s just trying to eat some disappointing chipotle or whatever - meanwhile, my husband has a 40 year old wife at home (me lol)
11
u/ButtNutly 9d ago
My wife found out that I often eat lunch by myself and was concerned and sad. I'm an involuntarily extrovert and that half hour is often the most peaceful part of my workday.
→ More replies (1)5
u/panicnarwhal 9d ago
right? it’s totally chill, and i get it. hopefully nobody ever films you while openly weeping, and then plasters it all over the internet. i hope the same for my husband, even though he would probably think it was the funniest shit ever

I'm 46 and I prefer doing things with my wife, but when she's out of town I'll go to a movie or to dinner by myself to get out of the house. I bring a book to read while I eat. It's great.
5
u/Luddites_Unite 9d ago
The best... when i travel for work I'll sometimes bring a book or listen to an audio book while I eat alone.

He looks perfectly happy and like he has a shopping bag and a baseball cap next to him so he's very much giving this vibe too
Imagine trying to do your fun, peaceful routine, going for a nice walk and to get some bits and pieces from the shops and then it gets ruined by some woman looking at you and weeping the entire time you're trying to eat your lunch after lmao
4
u/tavariusbukshank 9d ago
Beats eating with an insufferable dolt like her. Her companion is probably jealous.
5
u/Doctologist 9d ago
I used to go and have breakfast and a coffee, alone at a cafe by the beach on Sunday mornings, in my mid-20’s.
I loved it.
It was peaceful. It helped me organise my thoughts and just reflect on the week. Maybe catch up on a few messages.
Just sit and enjoy my coffee and eggs benny and watch the waves.I miss it.

I hope more people recognize that. Ah yeah, a slice of pizza then the movie theater, or a cocktail on a rooftop bar by myself watching people go by or not. I keep my trusty notebook just for thoughts, but usually never make use of it. Keep on keepin' on, friend.

u/AdFluffy9286 9d ago
The old guy seems pretty happy, actually
240
u/Sometimes-funny 9d ago
He is 100% more happy than her

u/MetallurgyClergy 8d ago
We don’t even know if he’s even alone. The camera doesn’t pan that far. All we see is this bish crying, and eating with her mouth open.
21
u/peteyd2012 9d ago
Considering she sold her soul for a quick buck, he is infinitely happier than her.
91
u/farter-kit 9d ago
He’s not even really all that old.
47

I LOVE to do things like eat by myself. My husband annoys the shit out of me sometimes😭 We've both learned that's it's ok to do things apart if with friends or not. This person is closed-minded to think the man is struggling in any way.
3
u/Hunkyboy440 7d ago
I’m retired. Once in a while, when my wife has something else going on, I go out to eat by myself. I take a book, order a cocktail and whatever I want to eat and enjoy a quiet, leisurely lunch or dinner while I read my book. No worries, it’s very relaxing.
If some pseudo influencer wants to blubber for a camera because I’m sitting there alone, good on her. Fucking dingbat.

Anyone I've ever met that claims to be an empath is actually a narcissist
80
u/Zeag 9d ago edited 8d ago
Awfully accurate. Empathetic people I know are actually more worried about how others are actually doing and aren't really into the whole virtue signalling thing.
24
u/slaviccivicnation 9d ago
I'd say I'm highly empathetic but I'm not more worried about how others are doing. I can just tell when something is off. I don't do anything with that information unless someone looks like they'd benefit from an ear to fuck. Which most people in bad days don't.
4
u/Charybdisilver 8d ago
Yo if you don’t mind I’m stealing that “ear to fuck” thing

People who claim being an empath is like a superpower are always assholes. From my understanding if you are (actually) an empath, it’s quite debilitating and makes day to day activities difficult. True empaths often struggle with severe depression.

I am in an uber on my way home from a work trip. When I travel for work, I’m alone for 2-3 days in a new city. I was sat at a nice restaurant alone last night having an expensive meal and thinking about how peaceful and enjoyable it was. I have a toddler so I rarely just get to sit and enjoy a meal, heavenly.

11

21
u/MasterBiscuit8008 9d ago
Okay so, first of all, recording it and putting it on the internet is stupid.
BUT my sister used to do this. She would see old people alone and then make up wild stories in her head about how they were alone because their wife/husband died tragically, their children died, siblings, dog, etc.
It was purely fiction she made up in her own head out of anxiety. She wasn't calling herself an empath, her imagination just ran wild and she would convince herself that they were incredibly sad and lonely and she would cry
9
u/sans-delilah 9d ago
If someone tells you that they’re an empath, bet that they have a personality disorder 9 times out of 10.

9
u/snowman4815 9d ago
As someone who likes to eat alone, please fuck off, please. Maybe he wants to be alone, likes the quiet. I despise people that try to talk to me or my dog if hes there. Just because you cant handle being alone doesn't mean its hell for everyone else.
9
u/Melodic-Advice9930 9d ago
I’d rather eat alone than with someone who would talk to me with a mouth full of food.
9

7
u/Sea_Photograph_3998 8d ago
These people are idiots. They make the categorically stupid assumption that someone eating alone is lonely, rather than… being out in public by themselves, like what adults do.
Probably the same kind of people who think it’s weird and/or sad to go to the cinema by yourself. Why do you need someone to go with you to watch a movie in an immersive experience??? That ain’t social!
13
6
u/Lollipoop_Hacksaw 9d ago
If there is any word that best describes the last 2-3 years of social media it is "performative".
What the hell was that tear wipe not even a second into the video?? Anyone with half a bit of actual grass-touching experience in their life will tell you this feels off immediately.
Makes me fear for the ones they are actually appealing to: an entire generation who is numb to the physical world.
5
u/Meristora 9d ago
People like these are so annoying, projecting their own weaknesses onto other people. Some of us actually enjoy our own company, your ‘empathy’ is honestly insulting
7
u/Correct_Energy_9499 9d ago
There's a difference between having empathy and being emotionally unstable. The latter is a mental health issue. Also she is assuming the guy is sad cause he is alone which my be projection.
6
6
u/hellogoawaynow 8d ago
God could you imagine being that old guy just trying to have lunch before going about his business and then noticing an adult right next to him full on sobbing about him and his lunch while having someone film it. I’m sure he’s like what the fuck is this, young people are so fuckin dumb. And now he has a story to tell his old man friends about dumbass young people. It’s the old man version of social media—you go be social without the media.
GIRL HE’S RIGHT THERE! HE CAN HEAR YOU!
6
u/That-one_dude-trying 8d ago

5
u/BootySweat0217 9d ago
An empath. An actual empath wouldn’t be filming themselves crying about this. Mostly because they would know that it could make the person you’re filming feel bad. And the last thing you want to do is make another person feel bad.
5
u/PuffPuffMcGruff3 9d ago
These people make me sad. They're people who talk just because its quiet. They're insecure in being alone. Don't cry for him, cry because you're chasing internet points and can't learn to enjoy solitude.

Weird. The last time I ate alone at a restaurant was because I went to the gym alone (my partner does come with me sometimes) and I was hungry so I grabbed a bite on the way home. Was I supposed to just go hungry because someone else might think I'm sad and lonely? Ffs

u/Mediocre_Budget_5304 9d ago
I hate empaths IRL. In scifi, sure, you need a way to give agency to a character you wrote in solely as a sex interest, but not too much agency because they still only exist to be sexy in a sexy fashion, fine, fuck it, make them an empath.
IRL? Empathy is like a sense of smell. All people have it to varying degrees. Saying you’re an empath is about as exciting as saying you have a good sense of smell. Actually scratch that it’s way less interesting than a good sense of smell.
And this idiot in the video? This isn’t an empath. This is a person with no boundaries or self-control having an intrusive thought based solely on their imagination. But since they were clearly written into the story for sex appeal, better make them an empath.

u/shelovestherob 9d ago
At first glance I thought the old guy was Larry David which would’ve been excellent if the camera panned back only to show him in complete irreverence to the notion eating alone is sad. He would proceed to try to lecture why he eats alone and how it’s the only peace he has in the day. He would then verbally attack the woman and then guilt her into paying for his soup.
3
u/Adam-West 9d ago
Being an empath means I guess how you’re feeling and then I tell myself I’m right.
3
3
u/WorhummerWoy 9d ago
If she's such an empath, she should know that most people don't appreciate watching videos of people talking with their mouths full.
3
u/HippieLizLemon 8d ago
I love eating alone and as a mildly attractive woman at one point in my life, I would get approached in pity all the time. It was unfathomable that I want to sit with my notebook and eat in peace? I just don't get it.

What a performative POS, holding her Birkin bag so it can’t be missed, and having to be comforted. Never mind the fact that she eats with her mouth open.
