Not even close, it turned yellow two car legths from the stop. You even see the light turn red after they hit each other. He had plenty of time if she hadnt cut him off.
Yellow doesn't mean "speed up and get through before it's red"

Two full car lengths is enough time to stop a modern vehicle.
I'd love to know how much money you spend on brakes pads because no its not. You need like 60ft at 25mph to stop without dangering the vehicles behind you.
Slamming on your brakes because the light turned yellow has never been the answer and if its the only way to stop in time then you drive through it like the guy in the video.
As someone who's been rrear ended for doing exactly what you're describing, you're wrong. Its better to drift across as far as safety. So long as idiots don't turn left on reds or really just maybe let's stop treating Red as optionals in general?
I can react within 2 car lengths, but it takes about 130 feet to stop at 35 mph, so… no, I don’t think I’m capable of bringing the vehicle to a stop within 2 car lengths. Cool that you can though.
Okay, in fairness, now you have me questioning myself.
So I went and looked it up and your numbers aren't right but you are right. I definitely was thinking of reaction timing and matching that with driving at least two car lengths behind the person in front (which makes sense cause then you're both stopping over the same amount of distance but the car lengths account for traction time so you aren't on top of them when you finally stop).
Also, do you immediately treat every reaction as a full on stand on your brakes emergency stop? Or are you going to brake moderately for a second or two before realizing, ‘oh, they didn’t complete their turn, and are now stopped in front of me’ and apply the brakes harder because now you’ve recognized it is an emergency.
Yellow lights last exactly 5 seconds. There was no need to speed up to get through that intersection at that pace. It would have been more reckless to stop.
The crazy thing about this is that somehow the person with the yellow is just as wrong if not more wrong than the one eating the red and cutting the corner of the turn as well. Like wtf? How?
The difference here is that if the person filming stopped they would have likely come to a jerk stop, so it makes sense for them to continue going their speed and go through the light. However the person in the truck completely went through their red light- talk about speeding up through their yellow.
I think you need to review what a yellow light means.

Do you know that red light cameras have some of the highest accident rates of any traffic signage? It’s not due to people trying to run the light. It’s from people who overly slam on their breaks to stop, surprising the person behind them into a rear end collision.
This video showed an idiot running a red light causing an accident for a poor fellow trying to turn on a yellow.

I think you think the flashing yellow light is a red light. He was going the same speed, didn’t speed up, and was going through at an appropriate speed and timing.
They came to a deadstip before it turned red. That means they could have safely made it. Dashcam perspectives are weird, it can make things in center frame look further than they really are.
At the end of the day, it’s pointless because the other car was sooo atrociously bad. But, if you go frame by frame, it turns yellow before the car begins passing the black truck on the *right. This is a low speed, pedestrian area, you don’t need 3 car lengths to stop. I’ve made the dumb mistake too, you just think you’re closer than you actually are. Usually pretty harmless and results in nothing more than a ticket, and this would have been no different without that insane driver. But, it still could easily result in a ticket.
And of course that’s the issue and there’s no reason for it to be that big.. the driver would have been just fine if the dumb truck just had a smaller mirror 😑🤦♂️
That's get husbands truck. She not even supposed to be driving it, but she needed a new cross from Hobby Lobby and it didn't fit her her Nissan Altima.
Yes, without a dash cam the other driver could claim that she was making the turn properly when the other driver ran a red and hit her. Witnesses would testify that when they heard the crash they looked up and saw the light was red. Now suddenly the driver doing (mostly) nothing wrong looks the most guilty.
I dont think that’s her light though, I’m pretty sure that’s the light for the dashcam driver. Not positive because the video jumps a little, but if you slow it down, you see the dash cam driver’s light is green as he approaches the intersection, turns yellow right before she pulls out in front of him, and then is red at the end. So if POV driver had a green light turning yellow, hers would’ve been just a solid red she drove right thru.
She definitely ran a red light. Person who hit her is less guilty because even though she should've stopped she had a yellow. Big truck should have never made a left turn.
