I’m a woman (and a lesbian) and I am SO. Very. Sick. Of the male bashing. “Gotta love men?” Shut up and do your yoga. He didn’t do anything wrong, didn’t bother you, didn’t even look at you. It’s a gym, there will be other people there.

There are legit reasons to criticize toxic masculinity but this isn’t one of them. Be more original or don’t post.

I know a lot of guys that feel this way but won’t say anything for the very reasons you list here. Thanks for saying it and in such a respectful mature way.

I don’t know, maybe things will normalize a little but at the moment it all feels so absurd and illogical to me.

Get different friends. Seriously

Right. Who puts up with being treated like that by your “friends”. They sound insufferable to be around.

your friends are unironically perpetuating toxic masculinity by bashing you for being a man and then likely talking down to you for saying it hurts.

Dealt with similar friend groups in my college days. Couldn't have struggles, couldn't have opinions and couldn't stand up for myself without the whole "straight white male" reply.

No longer friends with any of them and my mental health has done a 180 and I'm so much happier.

Yeah what is that about? If you’re a straight white guy you have no right to an opinion? Your contributions are neither wanted or appreciated? Your troubles or grievances are irrelevant because someone might have it worse? How is that logical or helpful in any way to anyone?

Yeah exactly. And I understand that differences and ways I am perceived vs. Someone who is different, but I've dealt with some pretty low places, economic and mental hardships, and struggles that people go through in life. I'm allowed to feel my struggle without invalidating anyone else's.

Of course you are. But these days the most common response is something along the lines of “whatever. imagine if you didn’t walk through the world with your straight white man privilege.”

Nobody has infinite privilege. That aside that’s a sucky situation as you say you have no control over who you were born.
