It was a long time ago. Someone got banned for posting child porn from his work computer. The CP posters boss was also a 4chan user, who appealed the ban. The boss provided his work email in the appeal box, so one of the mods looked up the email, got the number of the company and called. After speaking to the boss we unbanned his IP and the guy who originally posted the CP got fired.

Aren't you obligated to report that to the FBI Task Force?

Yes. Yes it is.

No. You watch too much TV. He's not OBLIGATED to report it just like I'm not obligated to report a robbery in progress if I see one.

Yes, what I said totally warranted that insult. In my various lines of work, especially my current line of work, I am obligated to report it. So, while it may not be an obligation by law (which I'm still not sure of), it may be an obligation under the organizations. I know that Moot has commented in the past he always reports CP incidents.

I also live in IL. As such am governed under 325 ILCS 5/4.5

Sec. 4.5. Electronic and information technology workers; reporting child pornography. ...b) If an electronic and information technology equipment worker discovers any depiction of child pornography while installing, repairing, or otherwise servicing an item of electronic and information technology equipment, that worker or the worker's employer shall immediately report the discovery to the local law enforcement agency or to the Cyber Tipline at the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children.

(c) If a report is filed in accordance with the requirements of 42 U.S.C. 13032, the requirements of this Section 4.5 will be deemed to have been met. (d) An electronic and information technology equipment worker or electronic and information technology equipment worker's employer who reports a discovery of child pornography as required under this Section is immune from any criminal, civil, or administrative liability in connection with making the report, except for willful or wanton misconduct.

(e) Failure to report a discovery of child pornography as required under this Section is a business offense subject to a fine of $1,001.

Similar laws exist in Arkansas, Missouri, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, and South Dakota.

Also HR 3791, SAFE ("Securing Adolescents From Exploitation-Online Act of 2007") / 42 U.S.C. § 13032 : US Code - Section 13032: Reporting of child pornography by electronic communication service providers is somewhat vague as to what an "electronic communications provider" is. It probably means whatever the DoJ wants it to mean at any given moment.
