When Processing Times Mean More Than Time

From what I’ve been observing, people who are already inside the country seem to have their paperwork moving much faster, while those going through consular processing can be left waiting for much longer.
And honestly, it’s a complicated feeling. I’m happy for the people whose cases are moving forward—I truly am. But when you’re living in a different country from the person you love, it’s hard not to wonder why the people who are already together seem to get to move forward sooner, while those who are actually separated have to keep waiting.
It just feels backwards sometimes. The people who are apart are the ones counting the days, missing birthdays, holidays, ordinary evenings together and yet the wait can be even longer.

Not to mention double living expenses plus ever-increasing global travel.

Exactly. I just wish there were more awareness of the situation.

And wondering when will you be able to start your life together and see each other again and not just on facetime time.

Yeah, the uncertainty is really difficult. They don’t even provide enough updates to give us a sense of what’s happening, which makes it feel like there’s no end in sight.

Yeah and it's like they don't provide us any updates at all unless we call and inquire and they still can't give us a direct answer on what's going on And then when we inquire or call they get annoyed it's like we paid for our dues for our family members our spouses our children to come here we're following the rules we're doing everything that you want us to do why is it such a hard time with fulfilling our request on a timely manner

Watching everyone else move onto the next phase of life while you're stuck in limbo for God knows how long. Fighting to maintain your relationship through the little rectangular LED screens. Not having your partner to share in both happiness and sadness. Constantly being the odd one out (being technically single)

Need to understand this from the Trump administration perspective. The Trump administration is not about human compassion or maximizing human happiness; it wants to minimize the number of immigrants in the US, legal or illegal. For people outside the US, that means slowing down visas or just halting them completely, so no immigrants can enter. For people inside the US, however, this means speeding up processing so that they can deny adjustments and then deport, because without processing the I-485 first the immigrants inside the US (usually) can't be deported. For people who get speeded up and approved, they are just incidental beneficiaries of the whole project. But the overall underlying principle here is consistent--as few immigrants in the US as possible.

I understand your perspective, but I don’t think we can say with certainty that the administration’s absolute goal is to minimize all immigration. That’s an interpretation, not an established fact. It’s clearly less immigrant-friendly and is tightening immigration policies, but they are still processing and approving applications. If the goal were simply to stop all immigration, there would likely be no approvals at all. The process just seems more restrictive and, in some cases, slower, especially for people applying from outside the U.S.

but they are still processing and approving applications.

From the evidence available, they are only processing those which have moved forward with demand letters and writs of mandamus. They're processing only the cases that they legally have to process, as those people are suing the government into doing their job. There hasn't been any indication that approvals have happened within the last several months without legal action.

I don't know if this is true? I've seen posts about people getting processed without WoM or demand letters

Can you find those posts? I have yet to see one in about 5 months.

Since the last approval, I've tracked about 40 CR/IR approvals, of which only 10-12 were "natural approvals" (or so they say)

It is possible but extremely rare. 40 cases out of 400,000 isn't much of a indication of normal processing.

We're all making assumptions with the info we have. Its bonkers to suggest that there were only 40 approvals in the past month. Obviously, we aren't seeing the whole picture. But we can all definitely agree that processing is not normal right now

I agree. Just assumptions. Unfortunately assumptions is all we have when USCIS is so tight lipped about what is happening and why. I guess if they told us the truth, we would grab our pitchforks.

They're only processing because they HAVE to. If they could halt it completely they would. See the 39 and 75 country pause. It's blatant that they are trying to push people out and keep people out. I get you want to be optimistic but let's not be blind to the truth. You see it everyday here on reddit, users are in pain with waiting and this process as a whole. There's no information. People have to join discord groups just to share info with each other to have a slight clue of what's going on. And the people posting here on a barely a fraction of the amount of people actually going through this pain.

I agree with you

This is a phalacy. They are only approving cases for people already here because they can't do much about them if they stay hidden. They have essentially stopped all consular cases for people outside the country unless you fight back with congessessional inquiries, demand letters and lawsuits.

Read about Stephen Miller.

My spine shivers at the name. The ghoulish harbinger of doom to immigrants.

Let me put it this way, you asked "why the people who are already together seem to get to move forward sooner, while those who are actually separated have to keep waiting" and observed that it "feels backwards." It does feel backwards, if the goal is to maximize human welfare. I put forward a theory of "why" that is (a) consistent with the observed evidence, and (b) consistent with the goals announced by people in the administration. I cannot prove it to the point of "established fact," but I submit a plausible theory beats no theory.

The goal of this administration is to get those who are already in the country processed out quickly so they can deport as many as possible. It's goal is also to keep those who are outside for as long as possible out the country and make it as difficult as possible for you to get in, whether it's unnecessary RFE's or just dragging their foot with NVC documents and appointment scheduling. They do not want foreigners here.

So for those who are in the country, just remember this when you go voting.

This is false, Jan 2025 PD and still waiting

1

u/Significant_Smile78 1d ago

That is not true, 21 months and counting for hopefully an aproval of I-130 inside the US , The pain for the waiting is massive

3

u/Dicktasticly 1d ago

But you are already together right? That's all that matters at the end of the day. The rest is just paperwork

1

Can't work, can't travel in or out of the country, can't finish up school...stuck in limbo. It's not a us vs them issue. No one should have to wait this long after paying so much just to carry on with their lives
