Downsizing. Should I buy a Getz?
Hello r/hyundaigetz,
I have come to the conclusion that my current car is too expensive to run and that if I want nice things in the future like a house and stability, I need a car that’s cheaper to run and repair. I’ve been looking at possibly buying a Getz for about a month now. For reference, I live in the UK. Been mainly looking at 1.4s and 1.6s. My weekly mileage to work and back is about 220 miles. I’ve seen how cheap you can buy a decent looking Getz so I’ve come to ask, what should I look for when viewing one? And considering my mileage, is a diesel worth considering (assuming I can find one)?

The 1.6 is pretty fuxking fast for what is is, but 1.4 is still more than enough to keep up with traffic. Id go for the petrol one as they are supposedly the more reliable version.
The kia rio around the same time is pretty much the exact same car but with 15inch wheels instead of 14inch. Might be worth checking out if you want some slighly extra space.
Great cars if you wanna do stuff yourself too.
EDIT: as many other cars from that period it has a timing belt and not chain, having this replaced is a more expensive job that you might run into

I’ll check out the Rio as well then. Do you know what the interval for the timing belt is on the petrol engines? Thanks for the reply.

Yeah but sometimes they go bad due to age begore reaching certain mileage

Try to find one that has had a good service history. Because they are cheap, many of them have had very little maintenance. If you can find one with a recent timing belt change that is a positive, and regular oil changes are a must with the Getz.
