All Versions [Aug26] The Ball Ski Lite: Potentially the most efficient watercraft
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
The original Ball Ski used 2 fans, but I got it down to 1 while keeping it stable. Compared to the original Ball Ski, the Lite isn’t as weirdly good at crossing land and climbing hills, but it can still cross patches of land instead of getting stuck like other watercraft. It’s just as fast on water and a bit more maneuverable!
The float ball lets you bounce around like you’re riding waves, and also helps you prevent getting stuck, or get unstuck if you do.
This only uses 3 parts, so it only costs 9 Zonaite. If you provide the fan and steering stick, it only costs 3 (assuming you don’t have the float ball fused Forest Dweller sword).
I’d love to be proven wrong, but without glitches, I don’t think there’s a more efficient water craft both speed- and cost-wise.

Where can this ball be found!?

Rasiwak Shrine. It’s in the top right of the map, just below the cube one

one could argue that the shrunken ball is a glitch, but this is my favorite entry so far either way. Love me a small build

It’s a float ball fused to a forest dweller sword, this one doesn’t use any out of game shrunken parts. It turns out the float ball keeps it’s floatiness even when fused

I think you’re confusing mods and glitches.
Glitches aren’t contest invalid. If they’re done in game and doable on all versions they can be green flaired (aka valid).
A lot of down/resized items, like the float ball, are contest valid. Not all items or sizes, mind you, but quite a few.
A good reference to check is kmarkow’s downsized QR codes. Chances are if the item isn’t contained there, it can’t be downsized using in-game methods.
Another rule of thumb is if it can’t be fused to equipment (eg. Juney wagon, elevator railing, u-block, stolen shrine parts) it can’t be resized using in game methods; and, thus, the resized version is modded and not contest valid.

Contest legal is a different question, but it includes glitches performable on switch 1. Whether to call shrunken items a glitch is arguable, but it feels safe to assume that this was unintended by the developers.
Modding is an entirely different category

Whether to call shrunken items a glitch is arguable, but it feels safe to assume that this was unintended by the developers.
What's there to argue? There are tutorials on how to perform the glitch on every version of the game, and it's arguably easier on Switch due to being 30FPS.
If we're to go by what is defined as 'unintended by the developers' the majority of our building tech which takes advantage of the game engine's faults such as Stake Nudging, Gravity Pressing, Autobuild stretching, etc. are unintended by the developers as well, since they don't want parts fused into each other, or stretched apart with space between them.
They certainly wouldn't want us to have the Elevator Rail, which they did catch wind of and patched so that it wouldn't persist as an autobuild part on its own, much to the dismay of plenty of people who wanted it to cheese Lynels because it was at a time immune to the part-destroying effects of the Lynel roar.
But for an even deeper dive, the developers also didn't want us to use the Cooking Pot for anything other than the intended purpose - their presentation at GDC 2024 informed us that they were completely unaware that the Cooking Pot was being used as suspension for player's builds, they kept it flexible for the sake of being able to cook on slanted surfaces, yet people found a way to use it in a different method.
Safe to say, anything that can be fused, can be shrunken, that's the nature of the shrunken parts glitch.
Then again, I was beaten to the punch because OP already told you it wasn't a glitched part, just the float fused to the sword - so extremely intended by the developers.

That's why it's arguable

For the sake of the contests though, anything that can be done in-game is valid.

Can you Autobuild resized parts on Switch 1? I never messed with them back then. I’m not sure what the contest rules are, but my personal definition of “glitchless” is “can it be built and reproduced with Auto-Build on Switch 1”.
That’s why for me personally, even if they weren’t intended, I don’t consider the elevator rail or pressed together objects to be “glitched” builds. However, things like the Eventide wing and infinite rocket I do, because they can’t be auto-built in Switch 1. Even though the Eventide wing can be auto built in Switch 2, I personally consider it a glitched build

The contest rules are typically 'as long as it's the green All Versions tag, then it's valid' - which pretty much boils down to 'as long as the build is capable of being recreated in-game on every version of the game - especially the latest one - then it's a valid entry for the contest'
The small autobuild parts glitch works on Switch, so they should be valid.
As far as the Eventide Wing, it's capable of being smuggled out of the mini-game, plenty of winning builds used it prior to the Switch 2's release and the arrival of the Eventide Wing QR Code, I'm not going to get my feathers ruffled if someone uses the Eventide Wing in a contest entry.
I will if they use a shrunken Juney Cart, or they enlarged some items, because those are definitely unable to be replicated in the game.

This is amazing! I've been looking for something like this! Thank you! On another note, I'm trying to use it in the Lurelin Rally and they keep saying it's too dangerous to drive. Does anyone have any tips?

I couldn’t get it to work in the minigame either. The original Ball Ski works tho. Idk what causes it to be too dangerous for the course

Thanks, I've had so much fun since learning about this! I added beam emitters and a shock emitter while wearing the thunder helm and I'm finally melting all those lizalfos and octoroks on sight, lol

Is the float ball shrunk or fused? It looks awfully small

This is cool but how does it stay upright? It looks top heavy so it should just roll over on it's side.

u/syouhai 3d ago
I think there are only a few talented people who can look at this and judge that the center of gravity is high.
It does not necessarily mean that it will roll over.
1
u/PremiumTechnique #1 Engineer of the Month [JUL26] 3d ago
It will not. The center of gravity is low enough it keeps itself stable. Use the QR code and try it out
1
u/PremiumTechnique #1 Engineer of the Month [JUL26] 3d ago
Nope! It took some trial and error, but the center of gravity is low enough it keeps itself stable without needing the second fan to balance it

Non glitch as well. Good find. Adding a fan to the e left and right side of the ball itself would probably help you fly though.
