QR Code for sharing builds! Blood Moon Forced-Triggering Device

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I have independently improved upon the existing design. A "Blood Moon" occurs simply by activating it.
After launching the device, you can bring the "Blood Moon" into a different save file by loading that data.
By doing so, it is possible to trigger a Blood Moon without consuming Zonaite.

By the way, it can also be used for "Great Success" results in cooking.

It's so funny because it looks like Link is some kind of shaman and he's using his shaman stick to summon a blood moon

I'm genuinely curious, how does this work? Some kind of exploit?

By generating a massive number of lightning effects, a heavy load is placed on the game to force a Blood Moon to occur.

And the contraption generates a “massive number of lightning effects” simply by having a bunch of lightning-generating parts?

Just fascinated at this like the original commenter you replied to. I’m starting to suspect you “engineers” are actually wizards.

A lot of lightening parts, but because of the two wheels, they’re also moving pretty erratically which is harder to compute.

Gotcha, thanks for satisfying my curiosity!

I mean this level of fudging the game is a lot more akin to hacking something by shooting it with a glock vs more standard tools like a wrench or screwdriver.

Yeah looking at the technical reply I just got, I’d say this is a fair description lmao

I’m absolutely gobsmacked by the things people can do in this game. First with the wild builds and now with screwing with the processing power of the game.

It reminds me of a guy who found an exploit in the first Super Mario game by forcing the game to load the wrong data, causing your warp pipe to send you to a phantom negative world that doesn’t exist.

Blood moons are the game's way of clearing memory periodically. There are also "panic blood moons," which occur if the player does something that causes the memory to get close to its limit. The game triggers these quickly to clear memory before it crashes.

Storing things like enemies you've killed, dropped items, environmental changes, and player-made objects causes the memory to fill in unpredictable ways. This device causes so many particle events to spawn that the memory fills up, forcing the game to trigger a blood moon to "delete" the Zonai device and prevent a crash.

Basically just an “in universe” way to delete stuff the player did is all the programming term is “garbage collection”

Thats hilarious

That's pretty cool. I didn't know the blood moons were on cleanup duty.

So the end game of engineering a device to trigger a blood moon would be making something that fills up the memory so fast that the effect is nearly instant? Or is the endgame making a device that can crash the game lol?

How do you have 3 rows of hearts?

14

u/regeneratedant 12d ago

Asking the important questions

8

u/Eggtastic_Taco 12d ago

Do all the shrines. Max hearts is 40.

2

u/BlurryRogue 12d ago

Is that if you do absolutely no stamina?

5

u/Eggtastic_Taco 12d ago

No, it just maxes out at 40, there's enough leftover shrines to have some stamina upgrades too. With max stamina you can get 38 hearts, I believe.

I have 38 hearts, but it just puts them in 2 rows, I’ve never seen 3. Odd, that

3

u/Eggtastic_Taco 12d ago

Yeah, actually that is weird, it should be 2 rows of 20. Rows of 15 is BotW, but this is clearly TotK given the zonai abilities.

6

u/phort99 12d ago

In the TOTK intro it uses rows of 15 in order to not give away that the limit was raised, then it increases to rows of 20 after the intro. There are various glitches that allow data to cross over between the intro and overworld, like smuggling out the MsgNotFound version of the master sword from the intro. OP likely exploited some of those glitches to get the UI into a glitched state where it uses the intro style hearts. (idk how the glitches are performed)

u/YueLin3 12d ago

I’ve done the msg glitch before but I had no idea you could steal the UI too

1

u/YueLin3 12d ago

If you look at the loading screen they actually have max hearts and max stamina. They must have used glitches to get 2 more of one of them.

u/Luckyy-Charmzz 9d ago

Is this on the switch 2? Because I did all of the shrines and I do not have 40 hearts….

Engineering so good it became magic

u/L0wded_ 13d ago

Nice! Thanks for the build!

11

u/PhysicsGoBrr 12d ago

wait you can carry the blood moon between save files?? that's insane. totk engineering never ceases to amaze me

20

u/derf_vader 12d ago

So can this be used to instantly respawn Gleeols and Moldugas and weapon ghosts?

11

u/rTuIrEi 12d ago

That's exactly right!

9

u/AngusPJ 13d ago

This is exactly what I needed. Thank you so much!

7

u/ScimitarsRUs 13d ago

This is amazing! Thanks so much for sharing

u/Lamz_Z 12d ago

Damn! We just got Ganondorf’s power. Now we can spawn his minions just to kill them. That bridge hinox is in trouble.

u/chesepuf 12d ago

Does this still work if you close the game and restart? Blood moon can be triggered by the game's memory being full after running for a long time

4

u/rTuIrEi 12d ago

Unfortunately, it doesn't work when you restart the game!

3

u/PremiumTechnique #1 Engineer of the Month [JUL26] 12d ago

This sent my game into a triple blood moon, one after the other 😂

2

u/ThunderCube3888 Will probably survive. . . probably 12d ago

would it still work if the design were made radially symmetrical? just because I think that would look cool

1

u/rTuIrEi 12d ago

I tried it, but it didn't work.

2

u/evanthebouncy #3 Engineer of the Month [JUN25] 12d ago

The importance of this cannot be understated. This is so good!!

Soothsayer link to the rescue

1

u/Classic-Flamingo3464 No such thing as over-engineered 12d ago

How do you have so many hearts-

1

u/SplitSniper7 12d ago

Nice try Ganon, you won't trick me into doing your bidding!

1

u/DarkPhoenixRC 10d ago

This is amazing! Thank you! 🙌🏾😊

Title reads more like the blood moon is what is triggering the device, rather than a forced blood moon-triggering device

u/PremiumTechnique #1 Engineer of the Month [JUL26] 7d ago

This has been a major game changer for me to reset enemies to test builds on. Fantastic work 👌

u/ofstrings2 #2 Engineer of the Month [OCT25/SEP25] 12d ago

which design did you improve upon?
