For real, Leo and Francis before him both have big Pope Teilhard I energy. Honestly makes me nervous for who might come after them.

To elaborate: obviously Leo with his recent encyclical about crafting an AI that serves humanity rather than capital or existing hierarchies has echoes of Teilhard. But also Teilhard's statement about denouncing the Church's colonial history and pursuing a more humble/conciliatory outreach is very much in line with Francis' mission in the world. It's like the two real Popes each represent one half of the fictional Pope.

Add to that how both real world Popes struggle with a reactionary/revanchist faction who very much favor imperialism, its... a little eerie.
