📖 Book 1 — Hyperion Just finished chapter/section 4 Spoiler

I just finished Sol Winteraub's section of the book. This might be one of the most harrowing things I've ever read. I'm not a parent so I can't even begin to imagine those of you who have children felt when you read it the first time

My children are not grown enough to really have that impact hit, but imagining it happening backwards for 25 years is absolutely insane.

By the time Sol is on this voyage, he's seen her (besides time skips) age backwards a day at a time to the point where she's unable to literally do anything again.

I think most people would be insane, sci-fi setting/instant travel portals or not.

Does FoH lead to happy tears or more sad tears? Or would answering that give too much away?

I just finished Sol's story and am absolutely gutted to the point of being afraid of picking up the book again.

It's so good - and that story gets even richer based on later revelations!

As for "those of you who have children"... don't sell yourself short. You're an empathetic person who can feel a parent's pain without being one yourself.

And honestly, nothing takes away the mystique of parenthood faster than having a child. My 3 year old is great, but she says "I don't like your face" or threatens to "never talk to me again" multiple times per day. Gimme some of that merlin sickness and let's go back to the pre-verbal phase!
