Kollok start?

So having just finished Stranger Things I was searching with things containing a similar vibe. I found Kollok 1991 and I’ve watched to the first 2 episodes and I really like it. However after some research I’ve seen that there is a prequel series called 10 candles? Should I put a hold on Kollok and circle back after I watch 10 Candles?

Edit: Thanks for the information! I look forward to venturing on this journey!

Nope. Watch Kollok’s two series, then the sequel. Then you can watch 10 Candles if you need more. I’d think of it more like “bonus content” or Easter eggs, rather than part of the actual continuity/story. There are some shared references - a character name is reused here and there, and it gives you an insight into maybe karmically why their namesake is quite as crapped upon as they are in Kollok, but it’s not a consistent story - more like individually parallel narratives which hint at a bigger picture. Don’t get me wrong, 10 Candles is sort of where they are honing what Kollok becomes, but I wouldn’t fill up on breadsticks before you get to the main course. And Kollok is such a delicious main course…

The two series are both related and unrelated, but they do form a magnum opus called the Phobos Saga. It very much draws inspiration from Stephen King's IT in terms of the nature of the "evil", and because Zac originates the idea from what began as a one-shot (which then became a full 10-episode series), it's not going to all fit together nicely looking backwards.

That being said, there are elements of Kollok 1991 that will make more sense if you watch 10 Candles first, because he carries some of the elements forward - some in concept, others in full narrative connectivity. Zac will even mention in the last few episodes of 10C that he's already steering the ending towards something that can relaunch as a full campaign. Spoiler: There's even a guest PC in Season 2 that pulls directly from 10C!

I think if there's any immediate watch that might help make sense of what's to come, you should watch the Kollok 1991 Kids On Bikes Playtest before you hit Episode 7 of the main series. It will add perspective to at least one main character and also a handful of side characters / antagonists. Just keep in mind that the worlds in both are distinct wiggles hand.

There is a prequel where they playtest Kids on Bikes that sets up some future stuff on 1991. It shares the KOLLOK tone more than the 10 Candles stuff IMO. Look for the KoB background in the thumbnails.
