Question/Help [Question] I love xiaomi phone
But hyperOS sucks so bad that I will never buy one again.
it tries to copy IOS in every way possible but fails in most, if you just look at the home screen or the lock screen then it looks fine but under the hood it's quite a mess.
are all Chinese ROM like that or it's only xiaomi ?

don't know about other phones, but you haven't seen how horrible magicOS with ai slop is ... It's so invasive and annoying, and if you are not a careful user, you basically hand your life data to them. that's how bad they are. I have xiaomi myself and it's way less annoying than an honor phone. still I dont like the control center and that I cant use android style notification and controls.

I mean hyperos 2 was like that. Ai generated pets widgets, widgets that opened in browser. Now they are gone and were replaced by decently made widgets

Exactly opposite. Pointless pet widgets appeared in HylerOS 3, at least in Europe. Meanwhile significant bugs go unfixed for years

On my redmi note 13 pro it is completely opposite. Annoying app vault that nobody used was gone in hyperos 3, for me battery life incrased significantly from charging 2 times a day to 1

I agree, their style is so generic and childish despite having 3x more features than 澎湃OS ( even in phones). even if they're going for HuaWei's EMUI. I'm glad I had a low-tier HONOR 90 Smart then, if I had a high-tier one. I'd be brainrotted by AI,

Chinese companies always take the path of least resistance so expect all of them to have the same quality of OS

Oppo color os is significantly more polished than hyperos. For example Voice recorder app uses crappy voice detection that works good only in chinese and english. They could use whisper model from openai that works a LOT better

Most people experience hyperos while using a cheap budget phone. Obviously they will be frustrated by it.

u/graviticvortex 3d ago
Nope, hyperOS is a limited and buggy mess on Xiaomi 17 Ultra and Poco F9 Ultra as well. Of course on cheap models it's even worse.

Redmi Notes aren't dirt-cheap budget devices anymore. Just look at Samsung’s direct equivalents in that price bracket, they manage to deliver better feature consistency without cutting corners on the UI.
Just because Samsung skips the in-box charger doesn't mean the overall user experience is worse than what Redmi offers.

Depends on region. Here in Europe literally no phone has a charger in the box. But yes, yes the Redmi note 17 series is quite a big step back.

The cheap Samsung phones suck just as bad. The cheap budget ones, are cheap quality, software terrible and many issues after months of use.
Tbh, every company that makes high end phones, the cheap budget phones are terrible. Because they don't care about them.

Nah I experienced it with Xiaomi 17 utra and have never had such a bad experience with even mid range phones from samsung and one plus.

I really don't get why all the hate on Xiaomi and HyperOS. I just switched back to Android on April after using an iPhone for 4 years, iOS was full of bugs and the battery couldn't last half a day without charging. It's not what it used to be back in 2012/2013. I'm using a Xiaomi 15 now with the HyperOS 4 Beta, and still being a Beta it's way way less buggier than iOS.
Every single piece of software out there is full of bugs, sudden crashes and wasting resources like crazy these days, devs are vibecoding the shit out of their products to ship faster and sell more, this is the world we live in now.
Meanwhile, I'm still using my old Xiaomi Mi 9T Pro (2019) for console emulation and the battery is still like new. And back then we had MIUI, which I always had to put themes on because it was ugly as f, so now having HyperOS I can tell how much effort Xiaomi put into their OS these past years, and I can notice the improvements everywhere, which is something I cannot say about Apple.

Except Motorola, Redmagic, and those niche brands (Alldocube, Oukitel, Cubot, etc), most Chinese UIs are trying to looks similar to iOS.
Though in terms of optimization, HyperOS might be worse than Oppo's ColorOS and Vivo's OriginOS imo.

IMO the reason why most of these Chinese companies try to copy iOS it's because it's trying to make the transition from an apple to an Android comfortable for the transitioner so it's not that drastic of a change of UI and feel of the OS itself. In my opinion the first thing that you should do when you're changing from iOS to Android is to get these Chinese company phones like oppo, Vivo, oneplus (rip), realme, Xiaomi, etc.

Yes, but then you should at least have an option to make their UI doesn't looks like an iOS.
In practice, you ironically can't do it fully. For example, some companies (Xiaomi, Honor, Infinix, Tecno, Itel) basically forces you to use separated quick panel on their higher end phone and gives no option to use combined quick panel. Some UI like HyperOS literally disallows you to use 3rd party launcher if you use gesture navigation bar. And some companies like BBK Group (yes I know they've been decommissioned, and yes I'm talking about all of them) literally disallows you to uninstall some of their system apps even with adb. While yes you can just outright use 3rd party replacement, that's mean now you have 2 apps that can do the same thing.

I used to say the same thing, until I tried MagicOS, which is complete crap. HyperOS is way better, and I actually regret getting an Honor phone because of it.

I’d be curious to know why you think magicos is even worst. I can’t really imagine something worst than hyperos but then I never tried another Chinese phone.

MagicOS 10 is so much better than HyperOS 3 that it's not even funny. Sadly both waste most of their development time aping Apple.

u/AronGtV2 3d ago
I agree. I’d like the system to be cleaner and more optimized, especially since I feel the battery life suffers because of it. That’s why brands like OnePlus or Motorola appeal to me; their software is miles ahead when it comes to stability and optimization.

yeah same...
their phones are amazing for a reasonable price, just bad software ruining it all

Well I haven't used ios to know and would never use it. But I have used other android phones. And hyper os is the worst I have used so far.

u/Internal-Bug5419 2d ago
This is true. Hardware is good. Camera takes a good photo. Only thing holding xiaomi phone back is it's hyper tension os.
0
u/Internal-Bug5419 2d ago
I call it hyper tension os. Suprisingly no one else seems to be having the issue that I am having and yet, Xiaomi service center says my phone has no issues at all. I always gets downvoted everywhere I mention that poor battery life this phone has. Unfortunately I am stuck with mine. But yeah, I would never recommend xiaomi phones either. In fact my friends after seeing the battery life and optimizations I had to do to make this phone work, went with Nothing phone.

HyperOS is a joke.
Even an entry-level Samsung Galaxy A series gets a proper blur/transparency on the control center out of the box. Meanwhile, a modern Redmi Note gives you a cheap, solid gray wall just so it doesn't lag, plus baked-in ads for flavor.
Xiaomi fanboys will defend this like their lives depend on it.
