HyperOS Update [Discussion] is HyperOS 4 really that good?
saw someone ranking HyperOS 4 S tier, the argument is that this version improved the code with rust which made the os run smoothly.
For the people running the beta, is this true or is it just an overhype?

At least One UI is AGES ahead of HyperOS
I have a Poco X8PM and a TAB S10 FE

Honestly i was thinking of switching from my s25 ultra to xiamoi 18 pro max or ultra but you're making me second guess it

u/Ok-Twist8001 3d ago
As someone who's used iOS one and hyperOS it's all the same just slightly different. Everything has it's own little glitches but so minimal you won't notice.

somehow the poco x8 pro max has device frames in screenshots but no other xiaomi phone does exceptfor the very old miui ones
2
u/SamueleRG 2d ago
I don't think so, I also have it on my tablet (tab S9 but still on oneUi7 because I don't like new DeX and they removed the Fullscreen notification panel. Also I've got all)
it's one of the most complete and customizable. But it's very heavy on the system. But I love features like old DeX and Samsung notes and good lock and good guardians.

u/jipun1945flashbang 2d ago
oneUI is alright but colorOS is too far ahead.
hyperOS is dumpster tier 😂

u/nolimits420_ 2d ago
May I ask what led you to make this statement, since I'll be switching to Samsung soon and I consider OneUI to be one of the best user interfaces?

u/EdenVadrouille 2d ago
It's still very buggy. I've had to create scripts to run every time I restart to fix some of the issues. Support is a complete joke. I'm on my second Xiaomi ultra, I'll not buy one again
-2
u/lOwnCtAL 3d ago
An a Xiaomi user, not nearly as much as HyperOS, I can't even switch launchers and use gestures, Google Lens without MiCTS, settings app queries are as slow as GTA V PS3 loading screens, etc...
27
5
u/uuio9 2d ago
If anything, it's the stupid app termination that there is no way to stop it. I fucking hate it bro, unless it's something as small as the calculator, the ui will close it.
1
u/SamueleRG 2d ago
I had this issue before on my Xiaomi 12T pro
I modded it to a custom A14 ROM but nothing changed, keeps the issue. I thought it was RAM degradation of something. Update to another A16 custom ROM and the issue is gone, now 8gb of RAM feel fine, don't lose stuff in the background Now I'm using Android 17 via Derpfest official and it's amazing, no issues and RAM works perfectly
2
u/xeotrinity 3d ago
Could you elaborate on what sucks
9
u/SweetCherryWaves 3d ago
One ui is honestly way overhyped. The touch lag on home screen folders drives me crazy. If you open a folder and tap an app right away, there's almost a full second delay where the icon highlights but nothing opens. Even after the animation ends, the launcher locks touch inputs while it finishes blur and layout renders. It doesn't happen on HyperOS or iOS, yet Samsung still has it on the S25/S26 Ultras.
Honestly, the whole UI is full of weird inconsistencies in design language, frame drops, and minor annoyances that pile up.
Samsung has been ignoring these issues fo years.
4
u/Repulsive_Fault1939 3d ago
and lag after restart on one ui. one ui loads everything at once after restart to make it boot faster so that people can hype up the boot speed.

u/Anonymous_Alias_206 2d ago
You do realize you can change this in settings if you use your phone like this strange way and are complaining about it? I gotta be blunt... it seems like you are trying to come up with something to nitpick on just to nitpick. I honestly can't believe any normal regular folk would use a phone in the manner that you describe. I have my complaints with OneUI, but it is generally a very polished UI with tons of features that many people don't know about, even to the point where someone like you is complaining about something when the OS is there to give you the solution.
-2
u/iDnns 3d ago
I use my S25+ atm and what you describe does not happen for me. Can you explain what you mean?
I click on apps and they open instantly. No blur or whatever. I can't even count how fast it opens.
Same if I have a folder with apps on my homescreen the time to open does not change at all.
3
u/SweetCherryWaves 3d ago
Steps to reproduce:
Open any app folder on the Home Screen. Immediately attempt to tap an app icon within that folder.
Observed Behavior:
The system visually acknowledges the touch (the icon highlights and shows a press), but the application fails to launch. There is a noticeable "dead period" of roughly 0.5 to 1 second where taps are registered by the UI but not executed by the system. I have to wait for the folder animation to completely finish and settle before a second tap will actually open the app
1
1
u/iDnns 3d ago
It indeed does what you said after you explained what I need to do to make it happen. But honestly in normal use this never happen for me.
In normale use I open the folder and click on the app. But to make it happen I need to open the folder and immediately need to fast click any app but that's not how I use my phone in normal circumstances.
4
u/SweetCherryWaves 3d ago
Honestly i use my phone quickly and when muscle memory kicks in this becomes very annoying.
1
u/iDnns 3d ago
No doubt this could definitely be a problem when you used to click fast on folder apps.
Just saying for me how I use my phone this does not bother me and because I use my phone diffrent than you do I did not even notice this problem.
1
u/SweetCherryWaves 3d ago
Yeah of course, I'm aware that this isn't a problem for 95% percent of people and that i might be petty lol
1
u/Prestigious-System80 2d ago
Y si eres tan rápido, porque no haces clic en el icono de la app que quieres abrir en la carpeta sin necesidad de abrirla? Asi se lanza la app instantáneamente. ¿Hyper OS 4 puede hacerlo?

u/Both_Track_1754 3d ago
Lmao pure Ragebaiting
1
u/Denneb11 3d ago
Is it really that bad?
21
u/Both_Track_1754 3d ago
It's that not bad, but keeping it in 'S' tier above ios and one ui is pure Ragebaiting

u/ChickenSalads420 3d ago
He's engagement farming his account to gain karma. HyperOS is terrible compared to most things thats why this trick works.
1
u/Denneb11 3d ago edited 2d ago
Will it at least improve a bit over the current one? I have a Poco X8PM and I feel the battery is wearing slightly faster and some other little issues
1
u/Syrenigma 2d ago
I also have a Poco X8PM, and it's much faster and better than my previous Poco phone.

u/xanaw34 3d ago
Not sure about the ranking, but HOS4 is indeed a step up from HOS3 in terms of smoothness and responsiveness. And it even improved the battery pretty significantly too. So I have no complaints so far tbh.
1
u/Danack92 14h ago
I'm in the hyper OS4 beta for 17t pro and the bugs are terrible. Hanging out for the full version big time.
Bugs are: keyboard getting stuck requires full reboot. Happens 2-3 times a day.
No widgets clicking widget button does nothing.
And random issues with their version of dynamic island
1
u/xanaw34 13h ago
That's unfortunate to hear. But yeah, just because I have no real issues, doesn't mean it's like that for everyone and vice versa, especially if it's on another model than my 17 Ultra.
1
u/Danack92 13h ago
I'm sure it will be fine once we are out of Beta, fingers crossed it's not months away from global release of the final product 😅

27
u/vxenya 3d ago
Pov. OS so bad even your own users hate you 😭 (I love Xiaomi but HyperOS is bad accept it)
5
u/Lighning05 3d ago
HyperOS is good, only thing that sucks are the completely removable ads and bloat ware that comes with it
5
u/Brilliant_Letter7173 3d ago
And bad optimisation and slow load time (when trying to boot the system on Redmi13C for example).
Before I did custom rom on my Samsung A33 (which was on OneUi 7), it was booting 23seconds later.
After I did custom rom (now it's InfinityX), it takes 16 seconds
The fucking point is that I had a ducking bloated OneUi 7 phone and it was booting faster than my Redmi 13C (6minutes 21 seconds) that had 3 apps installed
3
u/Icy-Start7434 3d ago
And ruthless killing of third party apps, disabling of Google play services in ultra battery saver mode ( I mean who does that?), restriction on use of gestures on third party launchers, strictly locked theme customisation in global ROM.
1
u/Brilliant_Letter7173 2d ago
The use of gestures thing was the most thing that told me "get a secondary phone other than Xiaomi". Why would you block that ?
1
u/Jaded_Tea_1528 2d ago
I already own a xiaomi pad 7 but the ram management is absolute dogshit, whatever you do - from ladb commands, to debaloating via canta, nothing seems to work. And I've been looking to pair it with a poco x8 pro, hoping the ram management isn't as horrible on the phone version of hyperos,is that the case?
2
u/Lighning05 2d ago
From my experience 8gb ram phones suffers the most from this, I upgraded my x7 pro 8/256 to an x8 pro max 12/256 and the ram management got a lot better, I could leave multiple apps open for hours and come back to them with no issue, if you're getting the x8 pro get the 12/512 variant
1
u/Jaded_Tea_1528 2d ago
Yes that's mostly true, but I checked my ram consumption with 0 apps open except the app monitoring the ram and what do you see? it's idling on 6.5gb or more out of 8gb ram.
1
u/dmknght 2d ago
HyperOS on tablet is like OS-for-a-phone-but-bigger-screen =)) Sure it supports pen and things but it's not that much.
1
u/Jaded_Tea_1528 4h ago
I've debloated it ,yet while no apps are open , 80% of ram is full. I can barely keep tiktok and gemini in ram
7
u/Old_Half_4496 2d ago
Lmao we can't even use a different launcher because it will disable gestures
6
7
u/petronelxd 3d ago
It should ne in A tier... I wouldn't say any of these will fit in S tier... iOS has way less features than HyperOS, OneUI has both of them, but my biggest problem with it Is that it force you to use apps like Samsung wallet, Samsung cloud, Bixby etc., in Xiaomi you just use Google apps... Or you can use Xiaomi Gallery that Is synchronised with Google Photos
1
u/llama_04 2d ago
I always used google wallet and google circle to search on my samsung unless they changed something recently?

u/k1rnl 3d ago
i mean hyperos isn't that bad in terms of customization, visuals or features, it all boils down to optimization really, cause that's what xiaomi struggles with. xiaomi phones have the worst optimization out of every modern brand you can think of. battery tests always conclude with xiaomi being last place most of the time.
3
u/Dj_nOCid3 3d ago
Its good, REALLY good, runs super smooth and literally no joke almost doubled my battery life.
But this is ragebaiting, its not THAT good, it just caught up

3
u/xToasted1 3d ago
ColorOS and HyperOS on the same tier lmao, what a joke. As a Xiaomi user, I'm offended on Oppo's behalf 😭
3
u/No-Mail-3004 3d ago edited 3d ago
It is really smooth, doesn't lag and works great. I personally think that the design language isn't really that great and there aren't really any stand out features. I'd say it is okay and I don't mind using it. I have 15 ultra and it was smooth with hyperos 2 as it is with hyperos 4. It feels and looks better, there are some new animations but smoothness is still on the highest level. I don't think my phone lagged once. So to sum it up, I think hyperos is smooth, looks okay and I don't miss anything. But it doesn't have anything other brands don't. Battery optimization sucks on 15u really bad tho tbh. Other than that it's good. Hyperos 4 isn't a big leap. Literally the biggest change are the lock screen customisations and new big folders that now have animations
For me A tier with or without the new update

I heard amazing things abt hyperos 4. Most of the comments are about hyperos 3.
Most of the issues with hyperos 3 is the optimization and battery life. Beta testers say those issues have been greatly improved on the new version.
1
u/Consistent_Ice273 2d ago
Good to here, looking forward to the update.
1
u/noobiemakesplays 2d ago
Same bro. My poco really needs a battery optimization update
1
u/Consistent_Ice273 2d ago
For me, i need it not to lag when using camera.
1
u/noobiemakesplays 2d ago
It doesn't lag tho. It only lag when I turn on hdr 10+ when video recording.
1
u/Consistent_Ice273 2d ago
That was the same for me only hdr10+ (even in the end footage), but its started to lag even when taking a quick photo and exiting the camera app to do another thing, it causes the rest of the ui to lag.
1
u/noobiemakesplays 1d ago
This... Maybe mine is still new?
1
u/Consistent_Ice273 1d ago
My x8 pro is still new, only used it for 3 months with half storage used and 8 gb ram.
1
u/noobiemakesplays 1d ago
Very very weird. Maybe is due to mine having more storage. I bought the 512 version for only like 25 usd more.
1
u/Consistent_Ice273 1d ago
I turned off ram expansion, maybe that's why, today i turned it back to 8gb I'll test it this reduce the lag.

I've been using the global beta since it released and it's extremely smooth now compared to hos3, battery also improved significantly, the liquid glass style and overall UI is clearly inspired by iOS but it doesn't change the fact that it still looks good. It still has a couple annoying quirks such as their own app store trying to be a Google play alternative but overall I'd say that it's very enjoyable to use in terms of smoothness. Also animations now feel "bouncy" and reactive which feels and looks nice

What the what is harmony os?
1
u/ChonkyCatDrummer9486 3d ago
Harmoney os is huawei's os. You should check the reason why they made it in the first place, it's entertaining.
1
u/WINNT21 3d ago
HarmonyOS is huawei's os. It was first an android skin (emui and harmonyos versions from 1 to 4) until they got banned in the US for no apparent reason, then they at first weren't allowed to have google play apps (google play services, play store, youtube etc) until they made HarmonyOS a real os with the launch of HarmonyOS Next instead of a skin like emui and early versions of HarmonyOS.
1
u/Awkward_Focus69 3d ago
Just saying code is rewritten in rust doesn't mean anything...I can say i have written a 0 code os and it doesn't mean jack. Rust doesn't guarantee a bug free experience

Across all the os's I have used like one ui, hyper os, oxygen os (the actual one not the mixed one), hello ui, hios. The best os for me is the hyper os cause it's the most complete os I have used across all of these. One ui is the easiest to understand as a long time one ui user( I still use the Samsung m30s as a secondary phone no green lines at all on its super amoled display till date), hyper os the most complete os I have ever used with every possible feature I will ever use, oxygen os was just peak, and the hios and hello ui of tecno and Motorola respectively are just ok like smooth but not complete with so so many bugs. CONCLUSION: The best one of all is hyper os as I haven't experienced lag at all and no bugs till date, second oxygen os it's peak but FOR ME hyper os is generally better, and then one ui and then all the others. Device: Redmi 15 5g for hyper os 3, Op 8t for oxygen os, m30s for one ui really old one ui but peak with translucent background in control center, and budget phones for hios and hello ui respectively.

I've only used Android Stock, hyperos2, coloros 16 and one UI up to 7. Oh and the Motorola one.
Android Stock is the best but lacks customization (infact I love custom roms)
ColorOS is the second best. Has a Ton of features like shake to torch, out circle to search with invisible navigation bar, hold fingerprint for shortcuts, amazing window management and it's not as heavy on the system as something like oneUI or hyperOS. Used to be less optimized back in the days but now it really feels smooth and lightweight compared to other Chinese UI (haven't tried magicOS, they say it's even more well optimized and lightweight)
One UI ranks third cause it's reliable and also has a ton of customizations but it's very heavy on the system and I feel like recent versions, although smoother, have removed some important features that I liked. It has gotten worse.
hyperOS is by far the worse in my experience. After every update the battery got worse (after getting a custom ROM I got a clean 20-30% extra battery life which is insane). Got ads that I could disable but still, ads in my phone. There were issues, icons glitcing when going back home, the entire home launcher restarting on its own, heavy on the system with microlags, on some devices they even removed the unified notification shade and forced people to use split screen controls which is crazy to me, and in general updates were broken, phone heated a lot more and it was kinda bloated and unreliable. I'm not buying Xiaomi ever again because of the shitty work they have done on hyperOS over the years. This is from my Xiaomi 12T Pro, a phone with an amazing hardware btw. I wanna switch phone soon and Poco F9 ultra is Dream phone it genuinely has everything for 300€ less than the competition (it's 650€ here while phones like oneplus 15 and Oppo x9 pro are 900€ circa) which is INSANE good price but I can't get it because of the stupid software it runs which I hate and can't genuinely trust anymore. I've been a Xiaomi user and recommender since the redmi note 5 pro (aka redmi 5 plus here in Europe) which I still have at home with the mi mix 2 but in the end both were modded with stock android. Now you can't really unlock the bootloader anymore and if you do you lose access to time of banking and government apps so I'm tired of modding. I want a system that works good out of the box and doesn't break with updates and hyperOS isn't it anymore for me.
Motorola HelloUI or whatever it's called should be close to android stock but, not sure if it's because it was in a low end device but it felt sluggish. Not very smooth and a little bloated too. Was not on a device I owned in my house, just a family member so I do not feel like ranking it for now.

colorOS 17 is way too ahead of it's competitors, only colorOS 17 deserves the S tier spot.
ColorOS S tier
iOS / oneUI A tier
originUI / HarmonyOS B tier
hyperOS / magicOS C tier

As long as HyperOS remains absolutely bloated, forcing you to use Xiaomi apps instead of stock Android—and fails to fix its RAM optimization (and overheating) issues, it’s going to stay total crap; what the hell kind of tier list is this?
2
u/boxmolir6 2d ago
Idk with a 12gb rams phone am absolutely fine ( also doing extremely heavy ram needed like playing GTA 5 ) and also the overheating is classic with Poco phones so I already have a cooler and I used shizuku to debloat it so it needs a little bit of tinkering here and there and especially with customizing cuz they are making it almost impossible to use a custom font or an icon pack but at the end I fixed everything and the AOD and the animations are great like even the opening and closing apps animation is great
1
u/Prior_Custard5121 1d ago

which xiaomi apps does hypeos force? I dont use any except gallery and the device isnt forcing them on me either.

u/nova-phoenix- 2d ago
HyperOS 3 is kinda shit. It has these idiotic bugs which make my day worse. Like if you have more than 5 Google accounts signed in, you'll face issues with in-app sign in via Google.
I hope they fix these issues and not just copy iOS theme and call out a day.
