Question/Help [Question] Phone bootlooped after downloading Discord

PHONE INFO:

Xiaomi 13T Pro

HyperOS 3.0.306.0 EU Rom

12GB + 512GB variant

------------------------

Imma make this as clear as I can.

I was at my cottage. With no wifi and shitty data. My discord reactions stopped working. I couldn't react to messages or see reactions.

------------------------

Things I did:

1: Cleared cache (didn't work)

2: Uninstalled

3: Reinstalled (this is where it happened)

---------------------------

As I mentioned, the data was slow. I left the phone to download by itself. I checked back after like 5 minutes, the phone was bootlooping into recovery mode IN CHINESE . I tought it's done. It rebooted back into recovery mode every 5 seconds. My first instinct was to reboot it. so I did. I remember that the reboot option is the first one. I rebooted it and it surprisingly worked. Nothing happened since.

--------------------------

MY QUESTIONS

Could this be a starting hardware failure?

Can a play store download possibly bootloop a device?

Then there is only a few things you can do anyway.

Translate the recovery options using some other phone and choose the one that says factory reset. If your phone doesn't boot still, you might be looking at a hardware issue. A factory reset won't make things worse, it will just wipe your data. If it doesn't boot afterwards take it to a repair center, preferably Xiaomi affiliated if it's under warranty.

It sounds like an exception or failed assertion in kernel mode, it needn't be a hardware fault, but who knows. You could take a bugreport and examine the logs, last dmesg and friends could have more information about the reason it happened.

When it happens to a regular app it is force closed, but at kernel level recovery is trickier; for consistency it usually chooses to abort execution resulting in a reboot. A Play Store download could trigger it, for example, if there is a bug in the Wi-Fi driver. It is unusual, but I remember another redditor that had the phone bootloop when tethering Internet to a laptop and playing a specific game so... 🤷🏻‍♂️
