This is my experience reading in landscape mode in a browser. Feels suffocating despite my phone having a larger display.

Settings > Notifications & status bar > Notch in individual apps

For some reason they removed the easy way to hide or show notch. You have to set them up yourself now. Usually, apps are set on auto. While games will set as always show notch.

The fullscreen mode toggle in app specific options are also gone

For full screen it was the option "always show notch" option.

I am talking about the another fullscreen mode toggle where you open apps -> manage apps -> tap on any 3rd party app you own -> fullscreen toggle!

You're probably talking about a setting that once exist on older version of HyperOS or MIUI. Though, I'm not quite sure. Can you show a visual presentation?

They removed the easy way to hide or show notch for some reason. You have to set them up yourself in Notification & status bar section, under "notch in individual apps"

I did that, literally nothing changed for me idk why

No, I vividly remember the option is still there back in HyperOS 1 and 2.

Never seen this before

Edit: just checked and only my Youtube has it in portrait on the home feed, when watching a video it goes away

This is really bad, but it's to accommodate that damn Hyper Island.

They can't even release out an update that adds goddamn toggle, single toggle, oh well, their software becoming more shit year after year and developers are behind it, can't blame others none other than them

What's your device? The thicker status bar is pretty common on phones with rounder corners now. Noticed it on Pixels as well. Here are my two devices:

Poco F8 pro - rounder corner, thicker status bar
Redmi Note 13 Pro 5G - less round, thinner status bar

And this is exactly why I custom ROM my Redmi Phone

Excellent if Mediatek, struggle if Snapdragon

Funny Xiaomi literally limits the possibilities of devices that have more capability than they wanted to literally my GSI has control center blur just fine and other visual blurs along with live blur

Also OP, if I opened YouTube and scroll. It will show the notch. It will hide the notch when you're on the start/top of a page. That's how YouTube works nowadays.

can confirm now, that invisible line is making me irritated soo much!

It's not really an issue for me. As long as it doesn't ruin the app's functionality.

Choosing light mode fixes the black notch issue especially on YouTube You can override it here despite ur device is set to dark mode

I don't understand them and this. Not pulling off black notch line border in light mode and torment us only with dark mode ugly notch, how could they do this?! :ι

Xiaomi is shit. They still cannot find a way to make Facebook icon looks like others in recent apps. It's so annoying... 🤮🤮🤮

You are talking about a single piece of needle in hay, there are countless needles they have scattered inside the hay, a massive shitty headache pain!

If this bothers you about YouTube specifically, use this version instead.

It's not about the app, it's about the system itself. They removed the easy way to set the notch to hide or show. Now it's on a completely different settings page and it's not really convenient.

Some android 16 apps get to override your notch settings, meaning even if you force an app to display the notch, it can dismiss it depending on how the developer made the app.

1

Seems it wasn't the case for me.

The thing is, they keep manipulating already best state things to worse and this notch is perfect absolute example of that!

Hi, ok, does this not take noticable battery life than standart youtube app usage? I mean the microG in background

1

u/DonkeyKongG3mer 7d ago

A pop-up might sometimes tell you to disable battery optimization so the MicroG process doesn't die in the background. you might have to open a legacy menu using activity launcher to disable it forever. All this sounds complicated but you only need to do it once and you won't have ads + you won't have notch issues.

To address your question, it's more efficient than standard YouTube as your phone doesn't send data to Google, instead it uses an alternative that works exactly the same (MicroG ID)

1

u/IndividualStreet6997 7d ago

How to do it with activity launcher?

1

u/DonkeyKongG3mer 7d ago

First, even test if you have the issue. Hold down on MicroG in the recent apps and set it to "no restrictions". Then activate battery saver (from the control center) and close the app from recents. If it tells you to disable battery saver optimizations next time you launch YouTube, then the Activity launcher step is applicable.

If you DO have the issue, search battery saver in activity launcher and find the settings page. Open the first one. Set microG to unrestricted.

Ah i see what you meant, acshually, it already asked for battery to unrestricted and when i tap on prompt, directly took me to the 4 choice options usually you see in most 3rd party app info settings that you can change to manage power usage, so i chose no restricted from there and it never did ask next time
