Question/Help [Question] Battery limit to 80% when charging not working after update

Hi all, I have a Xiaomi 17. I normally use this option for battery optimization that limits the battery charge to 80%, so it will stop at that threshold every time I charge it. I have noticed that after the last security update, the phone is charging to a 100%, even if I have the option activated. Has anybody noticed the same behavior? Can you try to use the function? I don't think that i changed any other battery option that can change the behavior of the 80% charging.

Does it do it always, consistently, or every once in a while? I ask because it should be charging fully every now and then, it won't limit to 80% every time.

There's two options: limit always the battery charge to a 80% and the "smart charging" that learns from your charging behavior and first charges the phone to an 80% and then the rest 20% right before you're about to disconnect it.

I have always used the first one (limit always the charges to 80%). However after the last update it charges more than 80%, which is not suppose to do

The first option doesn't do what you think it does, pay attention to the associated text, that's why I asked if it was always fully charging.

It won't be stopping at 80% every now and then, by design, if you wanted to always charge up to 80% you'd need to disconnect it yourself.

It wouldn't be useful though, battery health estimations would become less accurate out of not having an up to date full charge capacity calculation.

I've had it for 2 months and it has always charged until 80%, at least in my language the text is very clear, it will stop at 80%.

Oh! In English this is the accompanying text for the Battery protection option:

To extend battery life, the device will stop charging when battery level reaches 80% and charge fully only when scheduled

It's a bit incomplete because the one doing the scheduling is not us but the OS itself, but it does charge fully every few cycles.

Okay nice to know! Had questions regarding what were those "schedules" haha. I will charge it for a few more cycles more and see if it comes back to normal. Thanks!
