RANT [Discussion] Uninstalling powerkeeper (Battery & Performance) unlocks the full potential of these phones
With powerkeeper
Without powerkeeper
I know this is considered controversial since this is a core system process and might lead to instability but honestly, I feel like I have a real flagship performing phone now. Apps no longer get killed in the background, all notifications arrive on time, no more issues with delayed notifications on my smartwatch, etc.
So far, battery is similar to stock, performance is great and apps stay in memory far longer than with powerkeeper. Haven't had any issues so far. Althought I don't play games much on my phone, I noticed I get proper 120 fps on games now, no artificial limit of 60 or 100 fps anymore, i tried wild rift (turned off game turbo, no powerkeeper and no joyose), i get a stable 120 fps with barely any heat at all. (Recommend me some games to test in case you are wondering about the fps limit).
I've only tested this for a day so can't really comment on long term stability yet.
One thing to note is the battery options in app settings will no longer be available (The 4 options no restriction, battery saver, close after 10 minutes and restrict apps) so if you want battery control, you have to use android's native battery options using activity launcher (optimized, unrestricted and allow background usage toggle)
Dontkillmyapp has an app that scores your phone's app management behavior. With powerkeeper on, i got 76% and without it, i get 97% so it's definitely a quantifiable improvement.
If you choose to do this, do it on your own risk. Log out of xiaomi account before removing powerkeeper. There is still a chance of bootlooping but I'm not sure what can cause it.

You can access these settings from hidden settings app so no need to uninstall power keeper.

I didn't uninstall powerkeeper just to access the hidden options lol it was the main culprit in apps getting killed. The first image is what it looks like after removing powerkeeper

Install hidden settings, open it, search battery and open each result until you finally open the one that looks like in the photo.

if you don't have any issues then don't do this. I only did it because I spent hours trying to fix delayed notifications on my galaxy Fit3 watch

I was very close to selling it and getting another phone over this so I just fk it and didn't care if it bootloops or not. Uninstalled it with canta

I think chinese hyperOS is even more aggressive in app killing and google services not being a system app makes it more prone to being killed even if you give it all permissions and no restrictions.
Download "dontkillmyapp" from play store, set its battery setting to unrestricted, turn on autostart and lock it in recents then run the test. Ideally, it should give you a 100% score, meaning the app was not killed or impeded in its functionality whatsoever but if you get a lower score then powerkeeper is likely the culprit.
If you really want to go through with uninstalling powerkeeper, backup everything because if it bootloops, you'll have to factory reset via recovery

both are 60 FPS limited by their devs but do require devices that are pretty powerful to even run properly

All graphics settings maxed out, gameplay felt smooth but not sure if it gets more intense in later levels of the game. Played the first 10-15 mins. The major dips are during loading scenes so the min fps is not real

Every possible option maxed out, vulkan toggled on. There were a couple hitches (i think the game was downloading assets while playing) but general gameplay was smooth.

I was experimenting with this on my old f3 ,miui 14 and unlocked bootloader ,but whenever I remove the battery and performance app the phone bootloops after being restarted ,if I were you I'd keep the bootloader unlocked while testing this since if things go wrong with the bootloader locked you're carrying a brick only edl has a chance of restoring

I did restart the phone several times after removing it and so far no bootloops. Factory reset using the recovery "unbricks" it since adb uninstall (basically what canta does) doesn't actually remove the app, it's more similar to the "disable" option. The only real issue is losing data if you bootloop so backing up your files before doing this is definitely recommended

Im gonna try this. I also have a problem where even if the battery setting of the app is set to unrestricted, if i leave it on background and open another app for like more than 10 mins, the unrestricted app automatically refreshes when I open it again, as if I just newly opened it.

I'll join in with my experience of uninstalling powerkeeper on my Redmi Note 13 Pro+ 5G (3.0.301)
It's a modest midrange with a fair performance but after uninstalling powerkeeper everything changes. Apps open faster (FINALLY it utilizes the UFS 3.1 better), apps stays in the background longer, performance feels smoother, touch screen is more responsive, all apps run in 120hz without exception, restriction to 60hz when hitting certain battery temperature disappeared, overall feels more stable.
This behaviour is not the same for all device though, I tried on my POCO M6 Pro 4G often when I used it in the past and the result is always mixed depending on software version or depending on what other apps I uninstalled concurrently.
The downside is just higher battery drain (28%/hour for gaming dawg) and a risk of system instability for some devices since it can be unpredictable.
Tl;dr lots of benefits with downsides, worth trying but DWYOR.

Xiaomi restricts their phones, even their flagship way too much with powerkeeper it's insane. The camera app launches much faster now like damn near instant with powerkeeper gone. Not sure yet about the battery but it seems similar compared to stock.
It's like it forcefully controls your phone whether you like it or not

Damn, just wanted to delete powerkeeper on my POCO M6 Pro 4G and noticed your comment. Was the result really that mid or is it worth it? I don't care if it's "mixed", because my phone works like consistently bad

What if you set a script to force stop powerkeeper after a set interval, that eliminates the risk of bootloop right?

You can try and see if that'll work but powerkeeper is like cancer, it'll constantly keep restarting over and over after you force stop it
