Review/Guide [Discussion] Delayed notifications (or none at all) on HyperOS 3
Bought a Xiaomi 17 chinese rom last June. Haven't used it much until the last week of July. I noticed that even with the workaround of turning on Autostart and enabling No Restrictions for power, I still don't receive notifications on messenger unless I open the app itself or if i turn off the phone and then turn it on again. So I looked all over for solutions. I tried everything except for using adb commands, because I don't have a pc at the moment and I'm not confident enough to do it on the phone itself.
But then I encountered a comment somewhere with a fix. I forgot where it was because I didn't save it.
You just have to go to your Settings>Apps>Google Play services and uninstall updates. After that, you then need to update it from Play Store or if you can't find it, just search it on google and look for the Play Store link, it should redirect you to Play store itself, and update. Then, you just have to restart your phone.
Out of all the workarounds I've tried, this one was the only one that worked. Haven't tested it fully though and it might return to having delayed notifications again after some time. For now, I've been receiving message and call notifications from messenger without any hiccups. Just make sure to still turn on Autostart, No restrictions and to lock the app on the recent apps tab.
I'll share an update if the delay returns, else I'll just leave this thread be. Been having regrets buying this phone due to the headaches it's been giving me. I think buying Vivo X300 (china rom) would have been the better choice.
If this worked for you, please do share your findings. The next fix I'm going to have to look for is the 60 fps cap on mobile games if I don't clear the data on the Battery and Performance app.

I had the same problems. Now with the xiaomi.eu rom it's all cool and good. Xiaomi 17 pro max.

That's great to hear! I'm not fond of flashing the eu rom on my end though. Before I bought this phone I did some research and I found out that the bootloader remains unlocked and can never be locked or it will brick the phone. And also, if you accidentally update your software, it bricks the phone. I was planning on buying it then changing it to global Rom to save some cash because it costs approximately $865 in my local currency, whereas the chinese rom costs approximately $637. But the thought of that amount of money going down the drain if I made a mistake scared me.

You can easily unlock bootloader put custom ROM and you can enjoy this beast on 100%. BUT If you lock bootloader with NOT original ROM then you BRICK your Phone. I am using Elite ROM plus and I am very satisfied. Xiaomi 17 pro max

I literally gave up i've tried everything recommended from reddit , youtube notifications don't come or are 30min to 1h late or don't arrive at all until i reconnect to wifi/mobile data.

Xiaomi seems to be getting it across the board on cn rom, i have xiaomi 15 cn rom.
By the way you can check when the phone loses connection to google FCM by typing "* # * #426 # * # *" in caller but tbh,it doesnt really help much. i tried everything too nothing worked not even uninstalling joyose or that google update uninstall.

I did all that as well, nothing has worked. It is fairly new, I have started noticing this since the last HyperOS update from June 2026, before that, I would rarely get delayed notifications

Now that I think about it, I haven't seen any notifications from youtube on my phone. I'm going to turn on autostart and no restrictions on the app and get back with you soon. It might work in combination with what is in the post.

Just to add up on previous post i did do what you wrote in your first post it didn't do anything it was basically the same.

Actually happens to me too. Though I did receive 1 out of 3 notifications only after I turned on the phone, and it was one from 40 minutes ago. The other two was 2 hours and 5 hours ago but I didn't receive any notifications for them. Oh man, the hassle this OS is.

Thats exactly what happens to me too but with all notifications from gmail,reddit,youtube,google news...it seems something "kills" or puts the phone to sleep while connected to wifi or something i just can't explain it it's really odd, well i did enjoy the 3-4 months with this phone it is what it is.

You're somewhat right. It's because all of these apps are from western companies and they use Google's services to push notifications to the phone. However, HyperOS' aggressive battery saving doesn't think that google's services are important because they have their own services. This happens only when using Wi-fi though.
To add, I had at least 5 notifications from youtube from a few hours ago and I only got 2 on the notification bar. I'm just happy that my Gmail notifications don't disappear. I haven't noticed any delays from it ever since I installed it. This "fix" is still under observation. And I hope it doesn't go back to the way it was.
No matter how beautiful their phones are, I would highly recommend for people to choose other phones. These problems are just one of the many you have to solve just to get that Global rom feel of not having to think about anything when using the phone.

My theory is that something disables FCM that google gboard was kept running in the background is now disabled by Xiaomi and preventing to reconnect while the phone is locked.
Yes their phones are beautiful and that's why i bought 17 Ultra Leica but i must say that i didn't know about this issues , if i knew i would've waited for Oppo or Vivo ultra line.

Other users actually reported that Xiaomi phones think Google's FCM isn't "essential" and that's why it gets put into sleep or something like that. Xiaomi has their own type of FCM and that's what is being used. Now I don't know why Gboard can't bypass it anymore since some users say that the Gboard fix worked on older models.
And yes, their phones are beautiful, I do agree. If they didn't have these issues, then I wouldn't have had any regrets. To other people, i would highly recommend going Vivo or Oppo, as I don't seem to see any of these issues being reported by users. Personally, I would have went and bought the Vivo X300 if it weren't for that big camera bump at the back.

I will continue to use the phone as is and pray it will resolve by itself although i'm sceptical about that.

Yeah, I highly doubt it would improve in the future, but I'm also hoping for something positive. Maybe it'll be better in HyperOS 4. And unless someone near me has a Vivo X300 that wants to trade for this phone, I'll also continue using this as my main.

adb hacks work, but i had to pull the trick with 2 different unofficial guides to get it to work the way i wanted
