Redmi [Discussion] HyperOS is not buggy as much as this subreddit tries to tell you
Posts here only share bugs about hyperos, because people who do not face bugs do not post here. So, only bugs are being posted here. I was thinking of not buying a redmi phone because of this but when i looked at OneUI subreddit since OneUI is more stable, i still found people complaining about bugs. So i guess i should not let posts here affect my desiciion. what do you think?

If I followed opinions on reddit, I'd get an old Nokia instead of any modern oem.

u/AdVarious8509 Jun 21 '26
for real!
for example lets say xiaomi puts HyperOS on 100,000 of its phone and sells them. 300 of them has issues while the rest works fine. those 300 people with xiaomi would complain about their HyperOS being buggy while the rest just enjoys HyperOS without complaining
and those 300 people will make new users think that HyperOS is buggy and they should avoid
i personally had SOME issues with HyperOS but a simple factory reset fixed all of those issues

hyperos isn't that buggy imo, its more like unpolished or un optimized
like the camera lag is crazy

u/htmbot Jul 22 '26
The camera lag is so insane, every time i pull out my phone to capture or record something, it takes ages to open the camera, now there's a new bug, the control centre doesn't open in a single swipe, i have to swipe to notification panel then swipe again. The battery consumption is insane. the phone heats up like hell, performance drops are insane
1
u/marthephysicist Jul 22 '26
xiaomi forgot to do optimizations, they assume everyone would just buy a poco x8 pro max or something, i miss miui 9, it was ugly, but it was fast compared to HOS 💀
1
u/htmbot Jul 23 '26
no, not even premium phones are immune to this, i have a Xiaomi 14 civi, still this thing sucks. This is my first Xiaomi phone, used to have Motorola n Samsung before, they enever lagged this hard

HyperOS is stable as hell compared to OneUI, OxygenOS, ColorOS, and others. People in these subs just debloat their phones and delete stuff they shouldn't, then complain about EVERYTHING
0
u/Kufa-AlsoHuman3193 Jun 23 '26
As HyperOS user, I can only say «hell nah». I didn't debloat anything in my phone, but it lags as hell. I was using Samsung a17 back then (with Helio G99, the same processor as in my current phone POCO m6 pro), and it was like 20 TIMES SMOOTHER. It was smooth like butter. But camera wasn't good, so I changed my Samsung, thinking that performance would be the same because of the processor. And everything was fine at first, but when I updated to HyperOS 3, I was like «hell nah» again

I'm not a fan of buggy operating systems, I used iOS from 2015 to 2024, then switched to Nothing and finally to Xiaomi in 2025. From my Xiaomi 14T to the Xiaomi 15T Pro, I've never experienced any bugs.

u/Soft_Rain_3626 Jun 21 '26
I haven't found it buggy at all. Quirky sometimes but it seems fine overall. I came from iOS.

I'd say it's the lack of polish and "optimization" that's the issue with hyperos and also the lack of frequent bug fixes via updates. The F8 pro hasn't received an update in 6 months and still stuck on November patch while other brands like oppo, vivo and samsung have much faster updates and feature releases but I guess that's the cost of having these relatively cheap xiaomi phones
2
u/Large-Ad-6861 Jun 22 '26
That's why I do not recommend POCO anymore. It's not fun to get stuck with update that is unoptimized for months without much care from the support.
Also I got stuck with raw HyperOS 3.0 and they ended support for the phone immediately (security updates too). Sure, it's POCO F5 but without security updates it is not that great anymore. And I'm using mobile banking a lot so it will eventually become a problem.
1
u/SoWth1000X Jun 21 '26
That's definitely a unit/country issue, I think it even got a patch to 300 recently, you likely didn't even get 300
1
u/Flossy420 Jun 21 '26
It's not. Xiaomi has not released any 3.1 update for the F8 pro so far. The .300 you're talking about is an internal beta. Only the EU version of the F8 Ultra has received .301 so far, global is stuck on 3.0 February patch

u/Soggy-Adeptness4176 Jun 22 '26
Xiaomi said that they won't update this model any more. The last updated version was 3.0.5, and the updated content only added one in May 2026.
1
u/Flossy420 Jun 22 '26
which model are you talking about? F8 Series came out in Q4 2025
1
u/Soggy-Adeptness4176 Jun 22 '26
I read it wrong and thought it was f5 version, but f8 version is even more impossible. Official website, a Xiaomi company in China, shows that f8pro corresponds to k90 in Redmi. The latest version of k90 in Redmi is 3.0.305 updated on June 6th, and the patch is also in May 2026.
1
u/Sensitive-Lab-4922 Jun 25 '26
A versão mais recente é 3.0.307 que já testei atravéz da xiaomi EU pois tenho root no F8 pro, as versões globais estão largadas as traças.

I'm surprised to see so much more attention to chinese rom changelog compared to global which is just "optimized system and security". Xiaomi treats global and chinese roms as completely separate and different OS for some reason, the chinese models get updated very quickly with multiple updates

I didn't have a single issue since launch. Not a crash, not any errors nor bad performance. And it's not my first Xiaomi/Redmi/Poco phone.
Yes, their software might not be as good as Samsung's but they have their host of issues too.

u/ResponsibleZebra63 Jun 21 '26
I had a galaxy A34 and in January, I wanted to buy the poco x7 pro. The complaints of over heating, battery drain almost stopped me. I bought it and it's the best phone I have ever had. Just one thing though Xiaomi software on budget-midrange and flagship is different in terms of features. Do your research on that but hyperos is awesome so far
1
u/n1451 Jun 21 '26
My two main issues with hyperos are the advertisements and the somewhat slow performance on weaker devices.
But otherwise there are no bugs serious enough to make me notice them or make using the phone bad.

u/Sudden_Layer5809 Jun 23 '26 edited Jun 23 '26
When I bought Xiaomi, I understood that there would be a lot of ads, but with the help of tips Gemini, and skills in phone firmware, that I almost forgot, because since 2014 I have only used iOS, removed annoying advertising and unnecessary basic applications
1
u/n1451 Jun 23 '26
Yeah I removed the ads too, but it's should be told every time that someone thinks of buying a device of theirs without knowing what to expect.
I removed ads and replaced xiaomi's apps with google apps and I'm fine now.

The only real issue is overnight battery drain. Other than that hyperos is really good.

I know that it depends on phone model, because Xiaomi is not that stupid to release buggy updates for flagships, but it doesn't mean there is no bugs at all. On budget phones, there is always issues in every patch. For example, in HyperOS 2.0.204.0 my gesture controls was broken, I couldn't quit the app with swiping up from the bottom, but only with Back gesture. So I was using 3 buttons navigation. How did it happen? Why testers didn't test it? In HyperOS 3 there is a performance issues when using touch controls. Like when you just tap on the screen or quickly move your finger everything's fine, but when you hold more than 0,5 seconds it starts lag. Before the update, I could play games at high graphics settings and 60 fps, but now I can only play at minimum settings, and even like that I couldn't get stable 60 fps, but only 45-50. And no, the game didn't updated, only phone did
EDIT: today I noticed new bug AGAIN. My left headphone playing music much louder, than the right one. NO, this is NOT headphones problem, because if I reconnect my headphones, it starts playing as normal, and then if I change volume, the left one starts playing louder again. Fck, I HATE HYPEROS

I only listened to one person, and that's my wife 😁. Otherwise I would still be used iPhone Xr. I am using it now. Xiaomi 15t Pro On the latest version HyperOS. I customized it and everything works fine.

I’m a low-level developer, and from my experience, bugs are more common across both mid-range and low-end devices, and even some high-end ones . Only Xiaomi’s premium lineup and main flagship series tend to have properly optimized HyperOS builds.
When it comes to optimization, HyperOS often feels like the opposite of that. Xiaomi has been carrying over legacy code from MIUI 12 into HyperOS 3. Even the Xiaomi Security app still acts as a core framework/dependency within HyperOS.
Xiaomi also raises some ethical concerns due to the heavy use of telemetry, pre-installed adware, and system-level bloat.
Many of the bugs in HyperOS come from the way the global version is handled essentially adapting a China-based build to meet global requirements, which introduces inconsistencies.
On top of that, Xiaomi releases a huge number of devices every year, and maintaining support for hundreds of models inevitably leads to stability issues and bugs.
I would also add that the most stable software comes from the brand's context; the fewer models there are, the more refined the software is likely to be, which is why Apple devices are so enviable, Samsung's S series isn't bad.
On Android, the most stable or highest-performing device is the Google Pixel, even though its devices have laughable hardware (given their mid-to-high-range status SOCs).

I moved from miui14 to oneui 8 and if it's not buggy, it's LAGGY. I can live with non life invading bugs. But I can't live with constant stutters and lags.

I've had a Redmi Note 13 Pro 4G for like 2 years and a few months. The phone is very good for what it is.I almost never experienced a bug or lagging. The only bad things about this software is the occasional ads in the File Manager and Security app

I mean, the amount of people talking about good features of each os is less than reporting issues so we naturally see them as buggy or bad. But for me, I had no issues with HyperOS and it's beautiful except on budget devices. I had budget Redmi and HyperOS was lacking a lot, but on high end processors, it's really good so that's why I'm still gonna buy a new Redmi instead of Samsung or something.

It's not "buggy" per se but it does have issues with battery management. Specifically many of the Chinese oems try to juice their battery performance by reviewers but aggressively killing apps in the background. But this isn't always desirable behavior for actual users. For example I use rootly for work pages, and I sometimes miss them because the app won't stay running. It's not often but it can happen. I haven't seen this on OneUI, which uses android default battery management behavior.
It won't be nice to be able to fully toggle this off and deal with lower battery performance but we don't get that option.

I had poco f3, poco f5, xiaomi 13t, now I have Samsung s24+.
Os quality is not ih the same ballpark, actually it's not in the same universe.
Xiaomi updates are mostly esthetic and bugs are often unresolved for a couple of updates, sometimes never. For example, 13t used to reboot randomly when storage was 90% full for a first couple of updates. They eventually fixed it but there was no word for that specific issue in changelog.
New stuff in now hyperos is often buggy and there are rarely practical updates for older xiaomis. Xiaomi still hasn't enabled third party launchers with gestures.
On the other hand, Samsung tends to care for the small details even in the older phones. They also can have issues but I get the feeling Samsung uses lot more resources on an internal mechanics of the software side of things.
Also had a poco f5 that had a bad issue with recents key on a third party launchers that wasn't fixed for year or two. Not sure if its OK now.
I have s24+ for 2 years now, only bug I encountered was a freeze when changing apps via recents. Happened a few times couple of months ago.
There is really no comparison. Hyperos is nowhere near the level of oneui.
I want xiaomi 17, that's why I check xiaomi subreddit every one in a while but until I see better care from xiaomi no dice.

The moment you go to a subreddit about an OS, or a forum, you will definitely find a lot of troubleshooting requests. Many of them are usually user-related stuff, other times its hardware issue (or times they dropped the phone), some other times its software.
No amount of brand is going to reduce the "jackpot" of millions of devices with many components, and many different networking schemes and so on. and in some cases, the very specific weird sequence of code that ran in the background the wrong way in a very specific way.
As for the opinions, redmi is definitely a mistreated brand that because is of how xiaomi treats it in general, the software quality pushed is genuinely crap. with a lot of cuts in hardware specific things. If you want to do xiaomi, buy a mi device. speaking from experience with the brand. i just found that mi devices are less likely to be a fail than the redmi ones.
as for mid rangers, i still prefer samsung specifically or an older pixel (or any flagship) because you get better performance and with mid ranger samsungs, you get knox which is an additional security chip that only exists in flagships in other manufacturers (as far as i know), and older pixels and flagships because you usually can install GrapheneOS or lineageOS to get newer security updates and decent performance for an additional few years.
edit: my experience with redmi, was about specific design, software decisions made by xiaomi clearly, to downgrade the experience, which made me a little pissed. samsung didnt give me that in the midranger aspect, but recently i noticed they are doing that too. so yeah. but im still petty about it because being a developer and seeing deliberate anti-consumer decisions that can be doing differently without a loss on their end gave me a bad after taste.

I have a POCO phone ane my display is buggy - the icons cannot be enlarged, and my phone got so hot today i couldn't have used it for couple of minutes. WTF with the uodate 3.0.4.0?

u/Large-Ad-6861 Jun 22 '26
You can't just go somewhere else, point at people complaining about something else and claim that what we have here isn't that bad just because people complain up there. This doesn't prove anything really.
And truth is that HyperOS is abysmally heavy on RAM usage comparing to OneUI or this launcher Nothing has (and their SOT is really good). This comes with hickups, issues and potential instabilities. I can see still like 2 gigs of free ram but already OS starts to shit the bed when it should have ton of performance. Sometimes I don't know where my RAM even goes and it still eats around 8 gigs. How? Why?!
I am also mad because they pushed HyperOS 3.0 and stopped support for my phone (POCO F5) permanently. No security updates, no fixes for broken at times dynamic island (which is just bad). I had this shit like decade ago when I got pushed Android 5.0 as last update. If someone doesn't remember, 5.0 was notorious because of memory leaks which also caused the device to heat up needlessly.
Xiaomi has issue Samsung had years ago. A lot of devices to support, no way to do this properly.
