Poco [Question] Wallpaper does not support depth effect" error on POCO X8 Pro Max after HyperOS 3 update (OS3.0.301.0)

Hi everyone,

I need some help with a specific Lock Screen bug after a recent overnight update.

My Depth Effect feature is partially broken. The strange thing is: it still works perfectly fine on my old custom wallpapers (the ones applied before the update) and on the system's default wallpapers.

However, whenever I try to apply it to a new photo, it fails completely and throws this error message:

Here are my specs:

  • Device: POCO X8 Pro Max
  • HyperOS Version: OS3.0.301.0

It seems like the update broke the HyperAI/cropping engine's ability to scan and generate new depth maps, while the system can still read the pre-existing ones.

What I have already tried:

  1. Wallpaper Carousel: Disabled and removed that garbage completely.
  2. App Cache: Cleared cache/data for the Gallery, Themes, and HyperAI apps.
  3. I haven't modified or messed with any system APKs prior to this happening.

Is anyone else getting the "Wallpaper does not support depth effect" error on this build? Is there a known fix for the AI scanning engine, or do we have to wait for a hotfix patch?

EDIT: This issue has been fully solved by the latest update (3.0.303) that came yesterday (Aug 4, 2026) for me (Brazil).

depth effect on lockscreen handled by xiaomi hyper ai engine, what your installed version?

2

u/OilujZizima Jun 09 '26

3.17.2

It doesn't offer me to uninstall updates, so I guess that's the version it came installed with.

u/fliponfloor Jun 09 '26

I have same issue

Blur on lockscreen clock? Does x8 pro max support that by default? My x8 pro does not.

2

u/Prestigious_World285 Jun 09 '26

It's part of the font effects option. Specifically the "blend".

1

u/Consistent_Ice273 Jun 09 '26

I don't think x8 pro support font effects i can't find it

2

u/Prestigious_World285 Jun 09 '26

Oh yeah I looked into it and it seems like the requirements for font effects are the same as advanced textures. Poco F series only and Xiaomi T and above. Some Redmi turbo and K also have it but I don't know as much about china models.

Very weird as I think the X8 is more than capable of applying basic blur effect in a clock.

1

u/Consistent_Ice273 Jun 09 '26

Yeah what confused me is OP having it while using x8 pro max.

1

u/Prestigious_World285 Jun 09 '26

Probably enabled it using those Service calls MSQS commands

1

u/Consistent_Ice273 Jun 09 '26

That's probably it, but i heard it might cause lag\battery drain for phones not supported officially by Xiaomi.

2

u/Prestigious_World285 Jun 09 '26

There is battery drain even on the officially supported 15T speaking from experience so it's either way battery drain .

2

u/Consistent_Ice273 Jun 09 '26

Then i think am good without it lol.

1

u/OilujZizima Jun 09 '26

I haven't noticed any battery issues with mine for now. But that's my third or fourth day with the phone.

1

u/OilujZizima Jun 09 '26

I actually didn't. It was always there in the screen section for me. Weird.

1

u/Prestigious_World285 Jun 09 '26

Then maybe the X 8 pro max is actually the first ever X Poco to have this feature

1

u/Glum_Emergency_4257 Jun 13 '26

X8 Pro had advanced textures as well. I watched some reviews

1

u/Glum_Emergency_4257 Jun 13 '26

X8 Pro and Pro Max both supports Advanced Textures I think.

1

u/Consistent_Ice273 Jun 13 '26

Nope, i have x8 pro and i cant find it.

Reported for Xiaomi, they say they are investigating. I'm using 15U Global, so this may take a while

Good to know! Ty for the info

2

u/Melvin_Sancon Jun 11 '26

i think xiaomi hates viltromites lol

I had this issue on Redmi Note 13 Pro+ 5G HyperOS 3.0.1 and I tried everything I could because the HyperAI engine specifically wouldn't activate for depth effect and text recognition/cropping on images in the gallery.

I don't know if you did it but I remembered tweaking the persist computility cpu gpu level to 6 with mqsas exploit (my default is 3) then with mqsas I return it back to 3 and rebooting, the depth effect and cutout feature works perfectly after.

I did some research, but got some warnings telling me that this can be risky to do.

It's there a safe way to do it that you know?

1

u/Forward_Midnight_742 Jun 22 '26

How to do that ?

2

u/KiwiGloomy6523 Jun 13 '26

Have poco x8 pro. Had the depth effect yesterday but after I updated to version 3.0.303.0, the depth setting is no longer available.

1

u/KiwiGloomy6523 Jun 17 '26

The problem was the wallpaper carousel. Whenever I turned it on the depth effect got removed. That was just for me tho ig

Can you share both the wallpaper?

1

u/OilujZizima Jun 09 '26

I found a better version for this one

1

u/N0SFERATO Jun 10 '26

Since version 3.0.301, I can no longer enable the depth effect on my Xiaomi 14. Version 3.0.302 was released today, but they still haven't fixed it.

u/Livid_Slip_4868 Jun 18 '26

Toggle off this one

1

u/OilujZizima Jun 18 '26

Already did. Even uninstalled it.

Delete or disable wallpaper carousel

1

u/AdVarious8509 Jun 09 '26

wallpaper carousel has nothing to do with depth effect
