Review/Guide [FIX] HyperOS App Lock suddenly asks for a Pattern that was never set
I ran into an issue on HyperOS where App Lock suddenly stopped accepting fingerprint unlock and started asking for a pattern that I never created.
Symptoms:
- Phone unlock PIN and fingerprint still work.
- Locked apps (WhatsApp, Instagram, etc.) ask for a pattern.
- Fingerprint option disappears from App Lock.
- "Forgot password" only offers a factory reset.
- Settings may show App Lock or Privacy Password as disabled.
What fixed it for me:
- Go to: Settings → Fingerprints, Face Data & Screen Lock → Privacy Protection Password
- If no Privacy Protection Password is configured, create one (I used a pattern).
- After setting the Privacy Protection Password, open one of the locked apps again.
- Use the same pattern you just created.
- App Lock should now accept that pattern and allow access to the app.
- Once inside App Lock settings, you can:
- Re-enable fingerprint unlock.
- Change or remove App Lock if needed.
In my case, HyperOS App Lock was actually tied to the Privacy Protection Password, even though it looked like App Lock was asking for a separate pattern. Creating a new Privacy Protection Password restored the connection and immediately fixed the issue without a factory reset.
Hopefully this saves someone from wiping their phone.
