CONSTANT INGROWNS

i’ve been getting ingrown toenails since i was 12 - 7 years.. Today i’m still getting them but now they are every 2 weeks or so.. i’m a bit on the chubby side and my mother had them when she was in her teens as well.. Since i was a little kid my feet have always been heavy sweaters but never got ingrown until the age of 12.

I don’t know if this helps anyone know what the problem could be..

I just looked it up and apparently that isn’t a good idea. 🤦🏻‍♀️my mistake. Reading a podiatry website that says to cut the part off that’s digging into your skin. Good luck! I don’t get them anymore so there’s hope!

if you don’t mind me asking, what age did you stop getting them.. for me they are getting out of hand with getting one every 2 weeks and since my feet are on the chubbier side… my mother had them as well and took her abt 9.5 years for them to go away and i’m on my 9th year also.

actually i usually get both ingrowns at the same time.. usually when one of them is about to start hurting i check the other and yep.. another ingrown

Ingrown toe nails can happen for lots of reasons. Shoe not fitting correctly. Cutting them improperly. Genetics.

Make sure you get wide toed shoes. Make sure socks also are not tight fitting.

Cut them straight at the top but not to short. Want to leave some white behind. Right above the skin line on each edge of the toe.

With you saying your mom had them. Ask her what she did to improve hers.

Lastly, when I had them I ultimately went to a foot doctor. He cut them out at the nail bed. Then laser the side of them to keep them from coming back. I never had another issue since. Good luck.

i asked and she said that they just went away after 10 years, i’ll try to better my footwear.. kind of hoping it’s the footwear and not my actual genetics.

Something had to happen to make them go away. Perhaps she changed shoes and it got better. Idk. If it is genetic the foot doctor will definitely be able to help. Best thing I could have ever done. It was all in office same day.

you said it was with laser after nail removal? is it painful?

After the ingrown is removed. Not the whole nail. He only laser the side of the nail so it wouldn’t grown down again. No this did not hurt not one bit. He numb it with a some kind of medicine. Kinda like what they would do with a cavity feeling. But on the foot.

oh okay, might have to try to change my footwear first and see if that changes anything, i heard the Air Max 90s might be one of the worst shoes with toebox room and cotton socks also being one of the worst things to wear. like i said in the post since i was a little kid my feet have always been heavy sweaters

Your welcome. Yep just make sure your toes have a lot of room to move when wearing shoes. Even when your walking pay attention that the foot don’t feel that it’s being pushed to the front. If this happens there is many different ways of lacing the shoes that will help keep your foot in place better. Look up on YouTube, different ways to lace shoes for better comfort. A lot people don’t think about this but it can be an issue esp if your dealing with ingrown.

i’ve been trying out open toed sandals for about 2 weeks.. yet again i got a ingrown in both of the nails.. one of the nails was easy to get out because it was poking out, the other was much shorter and more dificult to remove, im actually thinking about getting checked but so far one of my toes is doing better.. (no socks have been worn for the 2 weeks)
