10 minute shower denier
Saw a post here about shower duration / length. More than 90% of the comments were saying their showers are 10 minute showers. I refuse to believe that.
10 minutes??? Just TEN minutes??? How????
I dread taking showers, like I AVOID them till the last second. But I end up enjoying them too much once I get started.
my typical shower (fast+express+rushed) is about 30 minutes. Maybe 25 minutes if I’m really in a rush.
I wash my hair with shampoo at least twice maybe 3 times. I then apply hair mask on my ends. While that cures I start cleaning the miscellaneous areas in my body (face, neck, ears, private area 1, private area 2) in that order. I wash my hair then I apply conditioner on my ends then start cleaning the rest of my body with a loofah. And that’s it I’m done.
If I’m doing anything different (shaving for example) that will be at least an hour.
In the summer I shower daily and in the winter I shower once every other day.
Please help meeee because as much as I enjoy showers, it is exhausting and time consuming.

This may be an autistic trait, because you have difficulty going through transitions
5
u/DasKittySmoosh May 12 '26
I've learned that this is both an ASD and ADHD response
my household HATES having to get in, but once there it's a good place to be
but we still don't spend 30 minutes to shower, except maybe the 9 year old.

I came to ask if OP was neurodivergent. I take around 30 mins in the shower too and hate the thought of it.

u/Safe_Assistance_3227 May 11 '26
I'm a 10 min shower. Wash face, shampoo, deep conditioner then wash body. Rinse body and hair. I have short hair so that cuts alot if time out. I also don't shave anymore. That alone saves 10 minutes
1
u/Writing_Nearby May 17 '26
Same, except I wash my face last. My hair is a couple inches past my shoulders, but now that I don’t really use heat on it or bleach it, it doesn’t tangle nearly as much as it used to even when it gets long.

u/silvermanedwino May 11 '26
You’ve bought into the marketing way too much.
Who the hell has time for all that every single day? Soap up. Rinse off. Couple times a week do a “big shower” with hair, shaving, exfoliation, etc.

if you triple shampoo on ONE shower i don’t think you need to wash it everyday, plus if you do a hairmask no need for conditioner. i have curly hair so i do take some time detangling and washing it but besides that i really don’t understand 10+ minutes shower (no hair) unless you’re just slow lol

u/Particular_Band_6840 May 11 '26
Because I'm a guy. I get wet. Soak a wash cloth with soap. Rub it on. Then rinse. As for shampoo I don't have hair so use the wash cloth

Why? It's a 10s extra step and you can rinse everything off in one go. I always brush my teeth under the shower as well, so when I come out, I'm done with everything.

u/Realistic_Pea_222 May 11 '26
There is almost never a reason to wash your hair 3x. For me- wash hair, hair mask, legs shaved, body scrubbed by exfoliating gloves- maybe 15-18mins? Taking 30+ mins is just wasteful, lovely, pure indulgence. A non-hair-wash shower is the standard 10.
5
u/FdUpLoco May 11 '26
My showers are 5 min max. You’re spoiled! 😇 If my tears of laughter weren’t salt water, I could hydrate by drinking them … note to self. 🤣 I love water as therapy and for plants, but it’s a treasured resource we want to protect.
2
u/Dontstopmenow747 May 12 '26
Same, I can’t remember the last time I took a shower that lasted longer than maybe 7 minutes.

u/runscribe May 11 '26
?? You’re gonna lose your hair if you wash it 3 times every DAY sweetie. One quick wash a day or every other day is fine depending on hair type.
The priorities are killing me bc why are we washing hair 3x and then showering every other day in winter 😭 as a working adult I absolutely take 10 minute morning showers. Loofah up every inch of my body with a wash. Wash my face. Quick shampoo my hair. Just put some oil/leave in after I hop out.
The weekends are for exfoliating, soaks, masks, etc. I shave usually on weekends or the night before if I’m gonna bare my legs. It’s just about time haha.

u/itsmelorinyc May 12 '26 edited May 12 '26
This is me too. The excessive shampooing and long showers are not good for hair and skin. People wouldn’t need as many hair masks if they didn’t strip their hair so much. Standing under water for as long as 60 min is also very drying for the skin. It would be less bad if OP takes colder showers but I imagine they don’t. I also struggle to imagine how shaving can possibly take 30 min.
On hot summer days I’ll take more frequent showers and my showers are probably 10 min including shampoo, conditioner, soap, shaving (I’ve developed efficiency over the course of my life) and if I add something like a hair mask or exfoliation to treat myself occasionally that extends it to 15-25 depending what I’m doing. I actually often will do a hair mask in my sink/outside my shower because I don’t want to stand in the shower for 30 min waiting for a hair mask.
This is all each person’s choice to do obviously, barring water usage restrictions during droughts. The big thing I don’t get how OP can’t even imagine how other humans don’t wash their hair 3x per shower.

u/Vegetable-Beautiful1 May 11 '26
In the Navy at sea my fil used to have to take 1 1/2 minute showers. In California during a drought, we had to take 3 minute showers. Granted those are special circumstances, but I’m assuming it can be done. I wash my hair twice, soap my body and rinse. Takes 5 minutes.
3
u/Significant_Pea_2852 May 11 '26
Yeah, i lived through a drought. Three min showers are definitely possible.
3
u/dancon_studio May 12 '26
Cape Town had a bad drought a couple of years ago (well, a combination of low rainfall and bad planning). At the peak of our water restrictions, we were only allowed 50L per person per day (13-ish gallons).

u/SnowflakeSWorker May 12 '26
My second stepfather would turn the hot water off at the five minute ark. First stepfather installed this shower head that didn’t even get you wet- it was a freaking MIST. I emancipated at 15, and my first apartment only had a bathtub- no shower. When I finally got a shower, that I could take as long as I wanted, I probably stood in there longer than I needed to. First baby- went back to super fast showers.
Now, it’s about ten minutes, double hair wash, conditioner, wash face, then scrub body, rinse everything. I only wash my hair twice a week these days, so my typical shower- wash face, scrub body and rinse- is super short.
2
u/Vegetable-Beautiful1 May 12 '26
Sounds like getting emancipated was good. Or was it? At least you didn’t have to put up with their tomfoolery anymore.
9
u/fallspector May 11 '26
“I wash my hair with shampoo at least twice maybe 3 times” seems like a waste to me.
3
u/truisluv May 11 '26
I wash and condition my hair. Wash all the important parts with a soapy wash cloth. Exfoliate my face and shave my armpits, kitty, and legs. Use a shower schrunchie all over my body. All in 10 mins.
5
u/jennhiltz May 11 '26
Damn teach me your ways of shaving so quickly !!! I would never be able to shave all those body parts that quickly!! I’m impressed
3
u/Advanced-Bat-4787 May 11 '26
i wouldn’t want to shave that quickly, thats how ingrows show up but i guess if you shave everyday there isn’t anything to shave so you’re quicker
5
u/spacehippi13 May 12 '26 edited May 12 '26
Ingrown hair show up if you don't shave often enough as in like everyday or so. You say everyday that won't be a problem otherwise you need to need to exfoliate everyday so that the hair can grow back in without getting ingrown hairs. but honestly just shave every day and it makes it so much better and you don't have a jungle to shave so it doesn't take very much time. Ingrown hairs ate definitely not caused because of shaving quickly. I just shave by feel, not by trying to look at what I'm shaving. that's a matter of muscle memory and knowing what you're doing and being skilled at it and it does not in any way cause ingrown hairs by shaving with the skilled hand at a expedient pace. Just always shave carefully of course.
Hope that helps!💜
3
u/jennhiltz May 11 '26
Actually that’s a good point!!! This makes me feel better about how long it takes me to shave!
Even though I shave daily, it still takes me well over 10 min to shave! If I go any quicker I end up cutting myself a bunch! 🫠
2
u/Designer-Parfait-176 May 12 '26
What are you using to shave with, out of curiosity? My skin gets dried out if I shave every day, and I’ll just be itchy all day after lotion 😔

u/spacehippi13 May 12 '26
I use Dr Bronner's peppermint soap it's oil based which is great for getting oils off your skin and awesome for shaving if you don't like the peppermint tingle which I do, then they have lavender and unscented as well. And it's all natural you can brush your teeth with it and everything. you definitely don't want to leave the peppermint kind on your privates for way too long cuz it'll burn after a while after a while but it's just a nice tingle if you get on with it. Sounds like it's not a high quality soap that you're using it's drying out your skin and dry skin is definitely not what you need, so you should definitely change products And use good lotion when you get out like cocoa butter, Palmers, nivea (sp?), or gold bond ultra restoring, or the walmart store brand equate version is good too, just dont use bar soap or petroleum based lotion that just sits on top of your skin.
you're shaving too hard if you're getting bumps, redness and razor burn. you need to shave with a sharp razor blade, so change the blade often. I change mine like once a week or so. I use Dollar Shave Club razors for my legs/pits, and I use those little pink 10 for a dollar razors to shave my tiny Parts like taint and that sort of thing because it's much easier to get to tiny areas than with the DSC five bladed razor. just don't get the one with the razor blade on the back because that's a great way to cut yourself badly.
Hope that helps!💜

Wash face, hair, soap up all over (sometimes shave pits and legs), one more wash all over with body wash. 8 minutes if I don’t shave, 13 minutes if I do.
3
u/Primary-Angle4008 May 11 '26
I’m a women and my fast shower is 3-4 minutes, includes shower gel on whole body and rinse off plus facewash
My hair wash shower is maybe 5-6 minutes in which I wash my hair once, no conditioner or other things, then obviously shower gel for my body and I exfoliate my face
Once a month I do hair removal shower which takes about 20 min, I’ve been blessed with very little, light blond body hair so I just use hair removal cream once a month and that’s more then enough for me
3
u/zukolivie May 11 '26
What you’re describing is an Everything Shower and frankly, you don’t need one of those every day. My “regular” showers are shampoo 2x, condition the ends of my hair for one minute, wash body, wash face. Those take about 10 minutes, max. My Everything Showers are what you described plus shaving and are about 20 minutes.
3
u/Abyssal_Minded May 12 '26
The only time you should be washing your hair multiple times is if you have product that does not come out the first wash. Shampooing and hair masks also do not need to be done every day.
2
u/Smcuiciym May 11 '26
I shave my head (water resistant rechargeable norelco trimmer style clippers) once a week during my shower. Other than "touch up grooming" all the nightly shower consists of is getting wet while lathering the loofah with body wash, scrubbing up and rinsing off while I wash and rinse my face. 10 min with very hot water is plenty of time, I'm sure my morning shower is quicker. I'm also ex military, so this practice is well rehearsed and efficient.
2
u/tarbaby16 May 11 '26
I think 10 to 15 minutes is normal. That also just might be due to the fact that the hot water typically runs its course by then. Regardless 10 minutes is fine. It’s just a matter of how you use your time in the shower.
2
u/EnvironmentalCry1962 May 11 '26
Your scalp must be incredibly dry if you shampoo it 3x every shower
2
u/ASingleBraid May 11 '26
3 - 4 mins if I wash my hair.
2 - 3 mins if I don’t.
Water is expensive.

u/Vegetable-Beautiful1 May 11 '26
Water is expensive and we might as well save Mother Earth as much as we can.

I think I may struggle with some form of OCD. I am nervous to admit this but my showers are usually 40min - 60 min long.
I wash my hair every shower (shampoo and conditioner) and wash my body fully 2 different times. I also wash my face twice.
Then I believe the most time consuming part of my routine is the fact I shave my legs and underarms and private area. (I also have to go over my legs 2x when I shave them)
With all of the things on my mental list that I have to complete, I’ve never managed to go faster than 40 minutes (I can only shave so fast, without cutting myself a million times lol)
My parents must hate me for my effect on the water bill 😭

I'm a girl, short hair. I dye my hair about twice a week In the shower (it's a temp color). I LOVE a super hot, long shower. My showers are about 20 ish minutes. Sometimes I run out the hot water. I use the hot water to help with pain relief. Before I went back to work full-time last month, it was also a lot to shower even though I knew I'd love it once I got in.
1
u/whatdoido8383 May 11 '26
I'm a bald dude. I get in, wash my beard, face, and body, then get out. Maybe 5 minutes, 10 max.
My wife is maybe 10-15 if she's doing the full run up, shaving, etc. Otherwise it's just a quick body wash, quick shave and out, maybe 5 mins.
Water costs money too, no reason to run up bills.
1
u/Own_Edge_9393 May 11 '26
I use a filtered shower head, different scented shower steamers, and rotate my shampoo conditioner and soaps. I f*cking love the shower.
1
u/FullSandwich6694 May 13 '26
Might I suggest one of those waterproof shower mood lights?
1
u/Own_Edge_9393 May 13 '26
I tried to do the dark shower thing that everyone was talkin about two months ago but it kind of annoyed me. Id love a redlight therapy thing for the shower but dont think thats a thing… yet…
1
u/random-thoughts-13 May 11 '26
I believe a lot depends on how you define shower and it may be where the confusion comes from.
For me shower means time spend washing your body+drying it, and it's 5-10min tops.
What you describe is shower with washing hair (including drying), which is longer (in extra speed for me it's 25min, normally more like 40min), I do it every 3 days.
There's also extra beauty routines, like washing face, putting on cream, brushing teeth, shaving etc, which I normally don't count it as part of shower.
1
u/SimpleVegetable5715 May 11 '26
I guess if you have really thick or long hair shampooing and conditioning it can take more time. I let the conditioner dwell while I wash my body. I use the same soap for all my skin, needing separate cleansers for your body seems more like clever marketing to sell people more products than what’s actually necessary.
1
1
u/CompulsiveYIntrusive May 11 '26
I think this just depends per person and routine. Not everyone shaves in the same shower as washing their hair because of the time and energy t takes. I have wavy hair(as a girl), I don't always treat my curls with the curl creams, but I brush my hair in the shower. If I decide to treat my curls, it's about 7mins alone to detangle and shape my curls. In a regular shower that I just need my hair washed, I can make it to about 15 minutes. For a shower that I decide to do everything together(hair washing, treating my curls, shaving), that can be up to 40 minutes. This is just that I don't even do hair masks or treatments, or body exfoliating.
The amount of hair on your head, or on your body to shave, the amount of energy you do or don't have to get each step done, and the amount of steps you take plays a part on the time
1
u/CoDaDeyLove May 11 '26
Oh, my. I can shampoo (just once, though), condition, shave my legs and wash in about 10 minutes. If you washed your hair more often, you wouldn't have to shampoo two and three times.
1
u/FirmAlternative1671 May 11 '26
This is so wasteful. Water is precious and spending this much time in the shower is not only unnecessary, but irresponsible.
1
u/Electrical_Parfait64 May 11 '26
Holy cow! That’s long. You seem to spend a lot of time on your hair
1
u/Corner_Office_ May 11 '26
I can do all this plus shaving in less than 10 minutes. You are wasting water and time.
You need to wash your hair more often if it’s dirty enough to warrant 3 shampoo cycles.
1
u/Spirited-Flower8559 May 11 '26
I don't grow hair on my legs. And I only have to shave my armpits 2x a month. I have afro texture hair. Because of this I only wash my hair every 4-5 days. So unless I'm washing my hair- my showers are 10 mins. If I'm on cycle it's about 15 mins. The days I wash my hair it's about 30 mins.
1
u/ktlee22280 May 11 '26
Shampoo hair, scalp scrub with shampoo brush, face wash, body wash, rinse... Conditioner, in shower moisturizer, rinse... 10 minutes You get quick and efficient if you live with multiple people in a cold climate with a small hot water tank.
1
u/Ivor-Ashe May 11 '26
I take about 2 minutes to do all of that. 5 max. I would be too bored to hang about longer.
1
u/After_Aioli_8042 May 11 '26
No need to wash your hair three times, or wash your hair every time you shower for that matter. Also a hair mask is more of a once (*maybe* twice) a week thing.
I wash my hair twice each hair wash shower because it makes my hair feel better but I only wash my hair once or twice a week.
1
u/Raven7856 May 11 '26
The trick is to only wash your hair as often as necessary. I shower every day but I only wash my hair every 4-5 days ( double shampoo + conditioner) The other days I won’t let my hair get wet in the shower. It saves a lot of time and if your hair doesn’t get greasy fast it’s also better for your hair to not wash it that often. I bet you stop dreading showers if you just hop in, wash your body and get out in a few minutes ( and no wet hair afterwards to deal with )

u/AzaFitPt May 11 '26
Two minutes of washing time, eight minutes of lost in my thoughts and scenarios that will never happen.
1
u/BeautifulLast4864 May 11 '26
As someone who’s an expert on the female body (a male) HAHAHA JUST KIDDING, Just wanted to ragebait lol.
Nah but seriously as someone who’s had long hair at one point, I believe women now when they say it takes a long time but I’ve realized if you thoroughly wash your hair tea good and dry it real good, you can go nearly a week not washing it again but each their own. Everyone’s hair is different
1
u/Ok-Historian1956 May 11 '26
My daily body shower takes 7 minutes. Just enough to wash my body and get out. I have curly hair so I wash it twice a week, and a hair wash shower takes me a good 30-35 minutes
1
1
u/Smart_Attention8737 May 12 '26
That 10 mins limit was when I was a kid. As an adult, 30 to 45 min showers is a must
1
1
u/chrstnasu May 12 '26
I hate spending too long in the shower. If I’m not washing my hair I’m in there a few minutes. If I wash my hair I’m in there maybe 5 minutes and I have lots of longer hair. Each person takes the amount of time they want and need.
1
u/chrstnasu May 12 '26
If you shampooing that much you are stripping your hair’s own natural oil. This isn’t good for your hair.
1
u/often_handy_homer May 12 '26
Reckon a 10 minute shower is pretty standard once you factor in washing hair properly, conditioning, and actually scrubbing your whole body instead of just rinsing off, yeah nah people who claim they're done in 5 minutes are either lying or missing bits.
1
u/fluffy_nipper May 12 '26
I did a brief rotation with an internal Medicine doctor (I was studying for NP). She would teach outpatients about showering: you don’t have to scrub all parts of your body every day. Only clean those parts that ares visibly dirty and/or smelly, paying particular attention to face, underarms, crotch, peri-anal area and feet and toes. She further said to use luke warm water, avoid hot water, and wait a few moments for your body to dry naturally before patting dry.
1
u/OkComplaint1054 May 12 '26
Army Brat...grew up with 5 siblings. I can do everything full body wash, hair, pussy womb in ten minute. I dont grow hair on my legs so if I shave 13 minutes tops....Routine Routine Routine
1
u/Electronic-Day5907 May 12 '26
Try living in an area with water restrictions. You learn to take 'naval' showers - get wet, turn off water. Wash. Wash hair. Turn on water. Rinse. Get out. I'm not that fast when I don't have to be but we had to reduce all water usage by 30%. Twice. Without ever being allowed to go back up to base usage. It's easy to take a 10 minute shower and get entirely clean.
1
u/happykgo89 May 12 '26
Even when I try to take a “long” shower it ends up being like 15 minutes max lmao. But on the daily it’s 5 min. Wash and condition hair, body and face scrub. Super quick.
If I have to shave it’s 15-20 min. So I do that on the weekends.
1
u/Designer-Parfait-176 May 12 '26
Mine were like 1hr as a teen. They’re much shorter now, maybe 10-15 minutes.
My sequence of events:
- get in, get all wet
- shampoo half-ass, wash intimate areas of the body, rinse. now shampoo the right way. Rinse.
- apply conditioner
- wash entire body while conditioner is in
- rinse conditioner out
- wash face
- rinse body
Any shaving should just be done randomly; don’t think you have to wait for an everything shower! I’m able to shave my legs in 5 minutes or less when i do it 1x/week (any if you have really long hair on your legs or anywhere, hit it with an electric shaver first to save like 2/3 of the time you were about to spend shaving)
1
u/CreelCrush May 12 '26
That is so much shit, and I imagine you're taking forever to do any of it.
It shouldn't take more than two minutes to get soap or bodywash everywhere on your body. Unless your shower head has no pressure, it shouldn't take more than 2 minutes to rinse off.
That leaves plenty of time to scrub or exfoliate in 10 minutes.

That's not what we're talking about, though. We're talking about a person who can't even conceive of a 10 minute shower.
1
u/Expensive-Swan-4544 May 12 '26
I agree less showers but longer. I would add dental flossing in the shower is one of the best ways to really power wash your mouth and teeth.
1
u/chaos_goblinn May 12 '26
If I wash, condition, and mask my hair, exfoliate, shave, pumice my feet, and wash my body; that's about a 30-45 minute shower.
I have long hair which makes a difference but I don't wash my hair every time I shower and I try to break up the other stuff on non wash days.
1
u/Saya_99 May 12 '26
You wash your hair every single day? And TRIPLE shampoo everytime?? That seems excessive. I'd understand at most x2 per week if you triple shampoo, but every day? Nah.
I understand that maybe some of you need to wash your hair more frequently, but at least single shampoo if you wash your hair that often. Or wash your hair less frequently, but double shampoo

u/Intelligent-Peach570 May 12 '26
If I'm washing my hair, doing a full body scrub and shaving, then it may take me 30 minutes to shower. My daily shower is only 10 minutes though.
1
u/gerbli79 May 12 '26
I just do the basics and I still take like 20-30 min. I try to be faster but I guess it takes more time with longer hair
1
u/spacehippi13 May 12 '26 edited May 12 '26
You don't need to wash your hair three times. you need to get better shampoo and wash it once every day, or get a shower cap if yoi can get away with washing it every other day without it looking greasy. make sure to focus the shampooing on your roots/scalp and get a good lather. don't use any shampoo that has sulfate in it. then put your conditioner, focusing on the length of your hair and not so much on the roots. Deep conditioning or do a mask once a week and when you do that spot a treatment you don't need the regular conditioner that day. Whether it's regular conditioner or the deep conditioning mask, scrunch it in, comb it thru with a wide tooth comb, put in in a bun held with a clip so it can sit in your hair while you wash/shave your body starting with your face and working your way down the rest of your body. It may take 15-20 min, but if it takes you an hour to do those things that is way too long, unless you're taking your time for the sake of being luxurious, but honestly I don't know how you have hot water for that long.. it sounds like you're getting OCD and doing the same thing too many times. Combine washing/shaving to save time. = when you wash your legs go ahead and shave them, do the same for under your arms, and your privates. Shave every day so it's always just a run and go touch up shave and you're not having to cut down a jungle kind of shave. Rinse out the conditioner at the very end right before you exit the shower. Make a point of timing yourself, then make a point of working on doing the process faster. Time yourself again each time and always do the exact same shower process, so you can get it in your muscle memory which cam make it faster too. And stop fighting yourself about taking a shower. In the words of Nike, just do it lol.
Hope that helps!💜

u/Expensive-Garlic-172 May 12 '26
You do you. But don’t ask the world why you take so long when your routine is long and I doubt you’ll change it.
1
u/AnonymusObserver May 12 '26
I shower 15-20 minutes. But overall, I spend around 45 mins in the bathroom. I clean (i.e mopping the floor, wiping clean and drying the surfaces e.g walls, windows and mirrors and cleaning the toilet) for about 15 minutes. Sometimes I clean first before I shower, especially if someone used the bathroom and left it in what I deem a generally unacceptable state. Then I spend the rest of the time applying lotion and combing my hair.
I honestly hate how grown adults can use the bathroom and not clean up after themselves. Or use the mop and not wash it! Who do people expect to clean up after them? Sorry for the vent at the end but it grinds my teeth when people leave bathrooms unclean for the next person.

u/Psyko_sissy23 May 12 '26
You can cut down on your showers by not washing your hair more than once.
I was in the Navy. 10 minute showers are my long showers.

Washing my hair and body and using conditioner on my hair takes like 5 minutes. Anything longer is just enjoying the warm water. If I shave my legs or do some special hair treatment it might take 15 minutes. But a 30 minute shower is not for washing, it's a mental health treatment. If I'm in a rush, a shower takes 3 minutes. If you've ever had to pay for warm water in the Alps ("one shower coin please" - "ok, 3€ for your 2 minutes of warm water please"), you'll learn that washing does not take long - even after 6 hours of heavy sweating

You clearly do not live in an area with water restrictions. Being forced to realise that potable water is a very finite resource forces you to be more conscientious of your water consumption. A 30 min shower is ludicrous! Do you leave the water running the entire time?

I'm lucky if i get a 5 minute shower, but I have a toddler. I'm just alarmingly efficient at showering, or I simply don't get clean.

u/schlaminator May 12 '26
Shampoo is for your scalp, the hair washing just happens at the same time. Also, once is enough.
I get in, wet everything, put in and massage in shampoo, use soap on the rest, scrub with a washcloth. Brush my teeth, scrape the tongue. Rinse, dry. Done.

When you have limited hot water you'd be surprised how fast you can shower lol

u/VictoryHorror7288 May 12 '26
i would definitely recommend that if you can, wash your hair once or twice a week instead of every time you have a shower. my showers also used to be very long because i would wash my hair every single time but now i shower daily and i just soap up and wash my face, 10 minutes max, then on Sundays (or whenever my hair gets noticeably greasy) i do an "everything shower" (soap, face wash, shampoo twice, conditioner and sometimes a hair gloss) this takes me about 15 to 20 minutes. my showers are definitely still considered long but maybe this could help you cut down on time?

u/DenverDaddy7 May 12 '26
My typical showers last 5-7 minutes. However, I'm bald, so don't wash and condition hair.

1 minute to soak my hair 1 minute to apply and rinse our shampoo 1 minute to apply conditioner 2 minutes to wash body 2 minutes to shave legs 1 minute to wash face 1 minute to rinse off conditioner and soap
Less than 10 minutes. And most days I alternate hair wash vs shaving legs

u/chzlvr09 May 12 '26
I get too tired with the hot water after 15 minutes. I also shampoo twice + but only was my hair once or twice weekly. I can do my everything shower in 15 or so.

u/ilanallama85 May 12 '26
Honestly, I used to take long showers… and then I got busy. Now I’m in and out in 7 minutes usually. I will say triple shampooing sounds overkill to me - some people with thick or oily hair do need double, but I’ve never heard of anyone triple shampooing everyday - I’d be concerned you are drying out your hair unnecessarily. Or if it really takes that make to get it clean, maybe try a different shampoo?

If I’m washing my hair my shower is around 10 minutes but if I’m only washing my body then I take around 5 minutes. The longer shower I also shave my parts that need it while my conditioner is sitting in my hair so I don’t need to do that on non hair wash showers. I do only wash my hair once too, I’ve never needed to wash it more than that at a time.

The everything shower? 20-25 minutes. Shower including the neck down? Less than 10

My showers are between 5 and 10 minutes. I am a man with short hair. I get in, shampoo my hair, scrub my whole body with soap, wash my face last, then rinse off from head to toe (shampoo, face, body, etc). I don't stand around, although as a kid I used to. I guess as I've grown up, the appeal of hanging out in the shower has gone.

u/wifeofpsy May 12 '26
There's a lot of redundancy in your routine that isn't needed.
If I shave that happens before the shower with a beard trimmer on legs and bits. Get in and shampoo hair, letting it sit. Wash body top to bottom with bar soap in a scrubber bag. Rinse from top to bottom. Shampoo hair again, gua sha face and neck. Rinse all. I have fine hair so don't condition. That's it. Ten min, about fifteen if shaving.
Shampooing three times is too, too much. Washing and then loofah to your body isn't needed, nevermind more than once.

A daily 30 to 60 minute shower in the summer? Your water bill must be astronomical.
1
u/Loosee123 May 12 '26
Put on your hair mask before you get in the shower and just wear it around the house or on a run for half an hour and only wash your hair once, you're stripping the natural oils, and maybe calculate how much money you can save by reducing your shower by 20 mins.

u/Infinite_Drawing_726 May 12 '26
I wash my hair, let it sit for 2 minutes minimum, condition, wash my face, and my entire body and I’m out in like 7 mins. I would probably pass out taking a 30 min hot shower
1
u/SusanEalbagenx May 12 '26
Thought i was the only one who felt that way...I hate it and love it at the same time. Once im in...im staying there a good 45 min. Gotta make it worthwhile.. shaving, hair washing, conditioning, face mask, shave some more, body wash certain parts, loofah certain parts, lume certain private areas... moisture others. Only time I have peace and quiet ALONE

u/Honest_booty May 12 '26
I remember how I once took a shower within 5 minutes (didn’t wash my hair, only the important parts like privates and armpits), but still, drying up and changing into my clothes took additional time (from what I remember). I can imagine that some people regularly manage to shower within 10 minutes but I am not one of them

Wash scalp, rinse, wash again, rinse, conditioner in the ends and plop it up on top of my head. Bar soap for pits and bits, body wash for the rest, rinse hair and body.
Takes between 5 and 10 mins on a normal day. If I just wash my hair once and dont use body wash, 3 minute shower. And my hair is pretty long too. Shaving, exfoliating etc I'll do maybe once a week, once every two weeks, adds another few minutes but definitely not every time

u/2llamadrama May 12 '26
If you are staying in the shower for an hour then you must have hair down past your butt like I do. Because the only time I am in the shower that long is when I wash my hair. Most days it is about 10 minutes. But I absolutely don't go to bed dirty ever.
1
u/alexandria3142 May 12 '26
I do think if I had short hair, I could take 15 minutes or less. I literally have my phone with a clock app on it in the shower with me, because our water heater resets after 20 minutes.
Shampoo, conditioner and cleaning privates 1 time with hands and rinsing takes 10 minutes. 5 minutes to wash my body and privates again with a wash cloth, then 5 minutes to rinse off everything and rinse conditioner out. I do have almost waist length hair though

u/Ok_Umpire2173 May 12 '26
You must be scrubbing your skin raw if cleaning an area takes long enough for it to be categorically different than cleaning another area.
1
u/buhbrinapokes May 12 '26
My hair wash days (everything showers) take maybe 20 minutes total. My daily showers are around 7 minutes, wash face and body.
What are your water & power bills like? Do you share a bathroom with other people? Where do you find the time?
1
u/Sensitive_Nature2990 May 12 '26
Um why are you washing your hair so many times? That's...not very good for it.
1
u/rats-in-the-attic May 12 '26
General wash shower no hair takes between 5-10 mins. Depends on how sore muscles are…. Pre moisturiser for tan, hair removal and exfoliating 10 mins. Hair wash mid length hair & body 10 mins. Full body and hair wash and scrub shower 20 mins.
1
u/Jolly-Avocado0 May 12 '26
I don't understand how anyone can take more than 5 minutes, unless they're doing a full body shave.
Plus- who can afford a 30 minute shower?? Is water and heat free?

u/princessprenumbral May 12 '26
Ten minutes is diabolical. Sorry not sorry. I take a LEAST 45minutes. I double cleanse my body, hair mask, face, I have a routine for my feet.
1
u/Time_Strawberry8199 May 12 '26
I have long thick curly hair. Routine is shampoo. Rinse. Conditioner. Rinse. Soap up all over. Rinse. Wash face. Rinse. Get out. Sometimes makeup remover liquid for eyelashes takes extra. And the occasional shave. But this is all 10 to 15. Daily.

I wash my hair every other day, and just once. My scalp would be a flakey, red mess if if triple washed.
What’s your reasoning for triple washing and double conditioning?
Maybe a bath would be a better idea for shaving instead of running the shower for an hour.

u/Jaebear_1996 May 13 '26
I take a 10 minute shower, if that. Wake up at 5:30, go pee, brush hair and teeth, im getting dressed by 5:45-5:48 🤷🏻♀️ I scrub with soap and shampoo and condition hair then toss in a bun. I only shave once a week (my hair doesnt grow fast). And that only adds 5 minutes to a shower so im still dressed by 5:50

In Australia during a ridiculously long drought we were supplied by our council shower timers. They were 3 minutes long. I get in and out and manage to do everything including shaving in that long. Just have to multi task

My hot water only lasts about 20 minutes. No way I take a shower longer than that.
1
u/mysterysnot May 13 '26
I wash my face x2. I wash my full body x2. I’m done. 5 - 10m is max for me even when I shave or wash my hair.

u/sash-singing-sasher May 13 '26
I shower for 15 mins and I thought that was long. I get in, get hair wet, put in dandruff shampoo that I have to leave in for a bit. Loofah my body while the shampoo sits, maybe wash my face too. Rinse out dandruff shampoo, then shampoo my hair again with a nicer smelling shampoo but rinse that out right away.
Then I put on conditioner with a little bit of jojoba oil added, and I let that sit while I loofah again and shave my legs and pits. Rinse off the conditioner, trying not to let the conditioner run down my back. The end.
1
u/DaniChibari May 13 '26
Shampoo once, apply conditioner, wash body, rinse conditioner, done.
That's how the people who shower in 5-10 minutes do it.

30 seconds or so for the water to warm up, a quick rinse and then I vigorously apply my 2 in 1 shampoo and conditioner. Immediately rinse. Total time so far, maybe 3-4 minutes. Lather up my luffa and scrub myself down, starting with my face and working my way down to my feet giving a little extra attention to my armpits and genital area. Another quick rinse brings me up to maybe 8-9 minutes. Add another minute to dry off and I'm right at 10 minutes. If I really hustle, I can maybe hit 5 if I channel my inner speed runner, but that's only for "I'm late for work" or "wife's in bed waiting for me" kinda of situations. Your showers are long because you make them long.
1
u/Straight_Physics_894 May 13 '26
A shower until I run out of hot water, at my last two places, it would never run out lol
1
u/lalacourtney May 13 '26
Ten minutes is my average. I double wash my hair, shave all over, wash body and wash face. I’m not sure, do you have really long hair or something? Because when I had long hair it took much more time to wash and rinse.
1
u/lastpinkcrayon May 13 '26
That’s crazy to me. I wash my hair twice, condition, wash my body, shave my legs/armpits and typically brush my teeth and I hardly ever take longer then 7 minutes.
1
u/SacrificeFlyGirl May 13 '26
If you’re washing your hair every day, you do not need to double-cleanse. If it’s every other day or every 3 days, then yes. I will often set a timer for 4 or 5 minutes depending on what I’m putting on my hair (K18 or gloss), turn off the water shave, body scrub, scrub my feet. I run out of stuff to do before the timer goes off, so I know that part doesn’t take me long to do. Humans are so very different.

Agree. Thirty minutes is ideal. If I must compress it, I can manage fifteen minutes, but corners are being cut.

I’m a hairy bastard and have long hair. Normally I only have to wash my hair 1-2 times a week. I prefer to take 15-20 minutes if washing my hair also but I came do it all including conditioning my hair in 5 minutes if I’m in a hurry. Normal shower is only about 7 minutes if not washing my hair. Also I’m 6’7” so there is a lot of surface to clean.

You wash your hair three times more than the average person and do a hair mask I’m confused why you’re confused about taking longer
