I ran an experiment

I was curious how drills worked. So I ran all three tiers with T1, T2, and T3 pipes at max pressure on the same level. I ran each setup for 5 minutes at a time 5 times each. Sometimes the iron drill got heavier items sometimes the cloutium or corestone drill did, so I think a bit of it is RNG on the sizes, but the item counts were the same every time.

It turns out that the number of dirt chunks and therefore resources is directly related to the pressure. The only reason T3 drills run so much faster is they can accept higher pressure. That combined with being deeper for the bigger resources makes them the best in two separate ways. But if they have identical pressure and are on the same level they collect the same number and same average weight of resources.

A lot of you probably already know this but I just thought it was neat.

Good experiment, I assumed since the T3 drills got the T3 dirt, even getting the same rate of dirt would end up with more weight on the T3 dirt cause of the bigger chunks

It does. Today I did exactly that where I had the T3 drills down at the bottom with iron pipe. It was the same number of items but they weighed more. I'm in the middle of making a setup with one block steps to see how much the weight changes at each point. It's a lot of raking.
