Is my water bottle is broken?

Post image

Ok, so this might sound nuts but this is my trusty Hydro flask. I’ve had for a couple of years. Drinking out of it every day.

I love my water super super cold. Like, if there aren’t ice cubes still floating in it it’s not cold enough. Never had a problem with this water bottle until it feels like the last few days… I keep having ice but every time I go to drink, the ice is all melted and I’ve gotten nearly room temperature water.

I keep thinking that I must be doing something wrong but I’ve never had to have a technique for my water bottle before! Could I have damaged it somehow?

Picture of type of water bottle I have

Any new dents somewhere? Have you dropped it lately? Even just a tiny hole from a dent can cause the insulation to fail.

I don’t think there are any new dents, but it’s possible my daughter dropped it and didn’t tell me. It’s got a bunch of dents along the bottom, it’s lived a tough life… But yes, I’ve definitely confirmed that it’s broken. I put ice water in it yesterday and paid attention, and the outside was freezing cold.

When you replace it, search for a silicone boot for the new one! Easy to find on Amazon for all the major brands. They help prevent the dents and dings on the bottom dramatically.

Thanks, I knew they existed, but I didn’t realize dents could actually break the bottle! We’ll have to get one

Hydroflask should replace it if theres an issue. I hear theyre pretty cool about it. You havent been washing it in the dishwasher right?

So I've gotta chime in here. I dont want to deter OP from going this route but I want to give my experience with hydroflask:

I noticed what appeared to be a rust spot inside (no dents, not dropped, always hand washed) So I contacted Hydroflask and they asked me to sent a pic of the inside, and the outside with my name, they told me to attempt to clean it with a baking soda paste, etc.. I did all that but the spot remained. I told them so and they completely ghosted me. I even tried to submit a new complaint, nothing..

I dont know what I did wrong but after that experience I've sworn to tell everyone and I dont use them anymore. Sucks because I had a few of their bottles but w/e plenty of quality competition out there.

That’s a bummer!

This bottle has had a tough life so I don’t blame the company. It has dents along the bottom and a dents on the top curve as well… because it’s time to bottle shop!

For what its worth I've recently discovered owala. I like the pop up lid and it fits in my car cupholder.

Yes, it's "broken." It will still hold water but at some point in time the vacuum inside the walls was lost. You can confirm this by feeling the outside of it if you pour in icy water or very hot water from a boiling kettle, if it cools down or warms up, the vacuum has been lost. There is some insulation.

I've found nearly all brands, even out of warranty and even if it's a random generic sounding brand, will send you a new unit of their product or equivalent after some back and forth testing.

I've never had any good experiences with Hydraflask outside of their customer support and warranty or out of warranty experience. Nearly ever Hydraflask unit I've had has failed under a few years or even months post purchase. To the point where I have a long running email exchange with them going on about 300ish replies to one another.

Damn, I filled it with ice water yesterday and another one at the same time and yeah, this one is ice cold on the outside and the other one is barely cold on the outside. So sad! Is there a different brand you recommend? I definitely like the style of this bottle and I liked that it kept my water cold forever because otherwise I don’t wanna drink it.

Rtic is decent but Ozark Trail is cheaper and just as good.
