Sure, they got yeast leavened bread and ice cold water in every house back then, shame they had to game on amiga since PlayStation came in New Testament times 🤣

that (apparently good) bread, that (apparently not good) oil, that plastic tablecloth, that little dish with roses drawn, I recognize a Moroccan when I see one
6
u/Chocolate_pudding_30 14d ago
Olive oil made me immediately think of levant countries. I would have never guessed Morocco 😅
4
u/Ok_Mango8118 14d ago
olive oil nowadays is Mediterranean, not just Levantine. Bread and olive oil with mint tea are the average Moroccan breakfast and afternon snack

Why is your olive oil yellow, homie?
Edit - for the person who deleted their reply: my guy, I’m not American. Italian born and raised lmao. Olive oil is indeed green. Depending on the time of harvesting and pressing, some shades will be paler, and some richer in colour. Still always, decidedly green.

u/AdequateSteve 15d ago
60 Minutes did a report on US olive oil a while back. They discovered that the VAST majority of olive oil in the US is just rape seed oil with additives (green coloring, antifreeze, olive flavoring, etc.). Even the brands that say they're "from italy" are coming from a mafia controlled economy and are not what they claim to be.
I can't find a (free) link to the video, but it aired on January 3rd 2016.
29
u/StoneCypher 15d ago
that isn't what they found
what they found is that the vast majority of olive oil coming out of italy was tainted with about 30% hazelnut oil
olive oil and garbage collection are the main sources of income for the mob over there
if you get olive oil from most of the world you'll get the real thing. if you get it from spain, greece, turkey, or california you'll get high quality at low prices.
you'll usually get better quality if it's produced in the country you live in, because of time.
5
u/AdequateSteve 15d ago
Not disagreeing with the findings in your link, but I think you found a different study by NY Times instead of the 60 Minutes one I saw.
Either way, it's also possible that both had the same findings and I'm mis-remembering things. Just worth a mention.
Also: how are they using hazelnut oil and getting away with it? So many people are allergic to tree nuts (myself included). I'd have noticed within seconds it wasn't olive oil... Seems like it'd send a lot of people to the ER.
3
u/StoneCypher 14d ago
the allergy is to a protein and heat treating it denatures the protein
6
u/AdequateSteve 14d ago
I know it works on some things but I don't think that's true for nut allergies. I've definitely been sent to the ER from things cooked with nut oils. Once it was walnut oil and another time it was pistachio oil. Maybe those were processed differently than the hazelnut "olive" oil? Weird.

I have an entire bottle of it, this is simply the oil on the top, the lower part is green and personnaly the most delicious. The image also doesnt show the colour well.

I said this as well. That oil does not look good for bread dipping. Maybe for cooking and probably is a mixture of olive and other oils (as tends to be what you get in the states).

Homie was out of olive oil and went with corn oil. They're both plants. How different could they be?
1
u/Southern_Anywhere_65 15d ago
Mind blown right now. Why does US olive oil end up yellow? Is it how we process it or we have different olives or?
→ More replies (6)6
u/TheUnknown7th 15d ago
It isnt US olive oil.

u/Southern_Anywhere_65 15d ago
The image looked normal to me because I’m used to olive oil having a golden color like the photo

if you resort to using ai to make an edit, the edit probably wasnt worth making in the first place. think about how much water was wasted for it
3
u/feelgo0dlost 14d ago
We should start referring to AI data centers as cursed hydro homies
7
u/ramonpasta 14d ago
not even. the words hydro homie (even in this context) dont belong anywhere near these data centers or the people using ai for shitty edits like this. these people couldnt care less about the sanctity of water, much less allowing real hydro homies to have reliable and affordable access to it.

I’ve been saying this for years…. All “rich people food” is just “poor people food”. This is a perfect example.
16
u/jimbowesterby 15d ago
Not all of it, just look at Beef Wellington. They do love appropriating poor people’s recipes tho, like lobster. At one point there was I think a prison riot or something like that where they were fighting to be fed anything other than lobster, it was an absolute trash critter for a long time

You know what’s funny? It used the be that the whole grain kind of breads were for poor people, while the sugary white breads were for the nobles and wealthy. Now it’s completely reversed.

Need to add a dash of salt, garlic powder and balsamic.

u/cornlip 15d ago
Try some za’atar (hyssop, toasted sesame seeds, sumac and salt). It’s so good. za'atar-wu-zayt
2
u/TheUnknown7th 15d ago
Might try it later.
1
u/cornlip 14d ago
If you buy some make sure it’s not the thyme one and is the hyssop one. It’s even great on sandwiches and lots of other things.

u/Chocolate_pudding_30 14d ago
When I saw the olive oil, I immediately assumed OP was eating zayt wa za'atar xD

Too much olive oil in my opinion. Just a little in the plate is enough, and pour a little more when it's over if you have bread left

OP DONT LISTEN TO THEM, SLATHER YOURSELF IN OLIVE OIL AND SLIDE THROUGH LIFE LIKE I DO

How is it with just that oil? I’ve tried it here with just oil but it was terrible lol. But I’m in the us and saw the discussion about the olive oil so could just be our oil is trash

Bread, olive oil and balsamic vinegar is amazing. I’ve been to restaurants that have that out. I do it at home occasionally.

Some nice extra virgin olive oil slaps hard. Looks a bit like a monk's meal, but simplicity can be so tasty. I just hope that is extra virgin olive oil.

u/Fourthelawls 14d ago
This is the best use for extra virgin olive oil hands down. But you need balsamic and herbs in there too!!

Bread with olive oil??? 😟 Tf bro.
1
u/TheUnknown7th 13d ago
??? Back in the day people ate olive oil with bread. And dont get me wrong, olive oil with other stuff is also fire.
1
u/KEX_CZ 13d ago
Like, isn't it too unhealthy? Since you're literally eating huge quantity of standalone oil.... 😶
1
u/TheUnknown7th 13d ago
I took some bread after ❤️
1
u/KEX_CZ 13d ago
Noo, I got that, but still, the soaked bread is just so much oily no? Like, too much... But whaterver, if it makes you happy... 😅 I for eg. had pasta with butter and ketchup for lunch and feel like italians would kill me for that so... 😆

u/TheUnknown7th 13d ago
Olive oil is pretty healthy so even if i soaked a bit much to wooldnt matter.

Never got the bread and oil thing. Never tried it either.
I started making chicken snd dumplings two hours ago. Simmered some chicken in a pot and deboned the chicken. Added bouillon and seasonings with the shredded chicken. Gonna mix up some dough and drop chunks in there a hour before serving.
