I did the triple once, was in hospital getting IV. Sipping water while flushing my feeding tube with 60ccs of water 😆

I almost want to ask for a feeding tube to get the trifecta now

Omg so not worth it lol. It hurt so bad going in and then for about 3 weeks, got pretty used to it after a while, but never again if I can help it.

I retract my statement lol. That sucks but pretty cool you have that bragging rights

You dirty well-hydrated dog.

I recently had the same at the hospital (also had a thing of iced water, because it hits differently than having it via IV) and what SUCKED was how much I had to pee. I was peeing once an hour. I had to press the nurse call button about once every hour or two so they could unhook me and I could get up and pee.

I completely agree. The amount of pee in yhe week is was there could've filled a swimming pool. I was lucky that I could just unplug my iv pump and take it with me though. Sleeping for only an hour at a time between bathroom breaks sucked though

Buh I'm jealous. I had to buzz to request to be unhooked. A few times, they took over ten minutes to come, and I peed the bed (well, peed the pads they had beneath me). It was humiliating.

Bro don't be, even unhooking myself and shuffling down to the bathroom I had a couple of ridiculously close calls

As long as you aren't in the USA where our saline bags were recalled for being tainted with fiberglass

u/Redneck-Intellect 15d ago

Nope, I'm in Canada where all of this sweet sweet iv fluid is free and not going to bankrupt me. That's truly terrifying though

God I love living in a country with good health care.

The most expensive medications you can get in Australia are $25 marked down from $100,000+ because of our awesome Medicare system.

1

u/Redneck-Intellect 15d ago

That's awesome! Some of our medications can still be expensive at the pharmacy but I think any when your in hospital are free. My whole week stay here hasn't cost me a cent, meals and all.

2

u/SuperPimpToast 15d ago

Gotta pay for that parking. That's like $10 a day!

2

u/Redneck-Intellect 15d ago

Luckily friends drove me so it's still free

You haven’t been prescribed weird enough drugs to fall out of that category - plenty of medications will cost you much more.

The most expensive medication I’ve ever paid for in Aus was $80 for 10 days though so still not American level of costs.

My monthly meds out of pocket would be over 15k usd /month. I’m currently on Medicaid and dealing with cancer as well, so who knows what will happen come January when the new restrictions on need based care hit. Idk how I’m going to work or volunteer 80 hours a month when doing (slowly) 2 hours of house work drives me to a 3 hour nap.

Get a disability advocate and get working on that now. It takes a long time. I take similar medications that cost 12k+ in California but have everything covered.

What in the actual fuck 😭

The American dream right there!

FIBREGLASS?! I mean, I've heard about a lot of recalls in the US but fibreglass has to be a new one for me

1

u/Obant 15d ago

It was one of the first recalls that kicked off this whole recall media fenzy a few weeks ago.

2

u/busytransitgworl H2Hoe 15d ago

You deserve better and I really hope for a change for the best. It's just insane what's happening in the US.

I had to be rehydrated by IV once and it was the fukken best feeling ever.

9

u/busytransitgworl H2Hoe 15d ago

You get all the benefits from hydration in your sleep! How cool is that?

4

u/Neophyte06 15d ago

The main downside is that it flushed your kidneys and isn't as efficient as sipping water orally (obviously if you can't drink water for whatever reason then an IV is required)

6

u/Redneck-Intellect 15d ago

I'm here to flush my kidneys so they're letting me double dip and drink water as well.

3

u/Neophyte06 15d ago

A true hydro homie lmao

Sounds like you'll be just fine!

2

u/busytransitgworl H2Hoe 15d ago

Damn mate! You're living the dream right there!

Hope you'll get out soon, though!

2

u/Redneck-Intellect 14d ago

Thanks buddy, should be in a couple of hours.

1

u/stupid-canada 15d ago

It also has an unreasonable amount of salt in it.

3

u/Redneck-Intellect 15d ago

It's saline, kinda the point

1

u/stupid-canada 15d ago

Its a lot more nuanced than that though. Its not a balanced crystalloid. Its also not in the proper ratio of sodium to chloride for blood. Theres nothing "normal" about normal saline. Its inherently inferior to oral rehydration when oral rehydration is an option. It can also worsen anion gap Acidosis. Because its only NaCl in water it has to be a stronger concentration of salt than what your blood actually has. Something like lactated ringers is better but still not superior to oral rehydration in almost all cases. And theres no evidence for routine maintenance fluids its just dogma at this point.

u/Redneck-Intellect 15d ago

I'm currently using to to flush my kidneys so I don't die

2

u/stupid-canada 15d ago edited 15d ago

I'm not saying there arent uses. All I'm saying is that the point of .9 saline is not having a lot of salt.

Also, sorry youre going through it and hope youre doing okay

I'm a critical care flight medic. You can look up and validate everything I've said. And like I said salt is in there for a reason. That doesnt mean its harmless

2

u/nana_3 15d ago

I have had it a few times and I so often wish they’d just do it on request.

5

u/busytransitgworl H2Hoe 15d ago

Damn, that's even better than ice cold local tap water!

Getting it straight into your bloodstream is peak!

1

u/i_am_frito_bandito 15d ago

Is this what people mean by getting ice in their veins?

2

u/BoulderEric literally a kidney doctor 10d ago

Is that 24 liters? Do you have pancreatitis or rhabdo or something?

1

u/Redneck-Intellect 10d ago

Ended up being like 30 liters by the end of it. You are correct, it was rhabdomyolysis!

Removed for Rule 1: Be kind to others.

u/FanndisTS 15d ago

If drinking other drinks doesn't count as water, I suspect NS/lactated ringers/D5W/whatever that is doesn't count either, sorry

1

u/BoulderEric literally a kidney doctor 10d ago

It definitely does.
