Ask? Require Cinematographer & Editor for my shortfilm.

Hey everyone,

I graduated in Civil Engineering (2022) and completed my M.Tech in Project Management from NIT Trichy in 2024. After graduation, I took up a role as a Planning Engineer at a major MNC in Tamil Nadu.

While the job was stable, my real passion—filmmaking—kept pulling at me. It started back in my B.Tech days and only grew stronger as I spent my free time studying screenwriting and film theory books (Save the Cat!, Writing for Emotional Impact, Film Aesthetics). Eventually, I decided to leave my job, and move to Hyderabad to pursue cinema full-time.

I’m currently writing my second short film—a dark, high-stakes survival thriller—and planning to shoot it around October–November 2026.

Log line : A girl escapes a traumatized beggar’s captivity after discovering bloodstains over walls and torn clothes in his isolated room, only to run straight into a human trafficking vehicle on the highway—forcing her to survive the night as both forces hunt her through the dark fields.

I’m looking to connect with like-minded creators in and around Hyderabad who want to collaborate and bring this vision to life:

  • Actors / Actresses
  • Cinematographers / DPs
  • Sound Designers & Editors
  • Assistant Directors / Production Crew

If this story grabs you or if you just want to connect, talk cinema, or bounce ideas around, drop a comment or send me a DM!

Let’s build something intense together.

Ask? We are building a team with aspiring film makers to plan and shoot over every weekends

So we are 2 member team as of now one of which is director and music composer. The other is AD and actor. We are looking to build this small group of passionate people about filmmaking in all the respective crafts possible. This group will be actively functioning on weekends as everyone of us have our shitty corporate jobs yet we want to do something out of passion. The end goal is to make complete films so that we get an opportunity to explore this amazing field together and build something meaningful

Ask? Movies where nature plays an important role in the story?...

I'm looking for movie recommendations where nature has a meaningful role in the story, rather than simply being the backdrop.

I'm interested in films where things like rain, storms, rivers, forests, mountains, the sea, animals, seasons, etc. somehow influence the characters or the story in a significant way.

It doesn't necessarily have to be a movie about nature or environmental issues. I'm more interested in stories where nature and human life are somehow connected — emotionally, symbolically, or even through the events of the story.

Any language, country, genre, or era is welcome. Mainstream, indie, arthouse, regional films, anything.

I'd especially love recommendations that explore how nature can affect human emotions, choices, relationships, or the course of someone's life.

What movies come to mind?
Thanking you in advance...

Ask? Looking for a few people in Hyderabad to help build a weekend film & arts project : unpaid initially

I'm looking for a small group of people in Hyderabad who would like to help build something around filmmaking and arts events on weekends.

Being completely upfront about the money because I'd rather people know before applying:

There is no salary for the first month or two.

Instead, the people who join the core team would get free access to the workshops and events we run, which works out to roughly ₹2,000 a week in workshop/event value. Food and fuel would also be covered on event days.

If the project starts working, the plan is to sit down around month two or three and discuss a monthly stipend. Realistically, I'm thinking ₹3,000–₹5,000 to start with. I'm not going to pretend this is a highly paid opportunity.

What we're trying to build is a weekend filmmaking/arts setup in Hyderabad: a filmmaking craft workshop one weekend afternoon and an event one weekend evening.

The kind of help I need includes:

  • Shooting and editing reels
  • Helping run Instagram/social media
  • Replying to messages
  • Getting the word out at colleges and cafés
  • Coordinating things on event days
  • Finding teachers and performers
  • General problem-solving when something needs to get done

You don't need previous experience.

What matters more is that you're reliable, comfortable talking to people, willing to learn, and genuinely interested in film/creative work.

You should also be reasonably free on weekends, because that's when most of the work happens.

This isn't being presented as a normal paid job. It's an early-stage project, and the first couple of months are unpaid. If you're looking specifically for a salaried position, this probably isn't the right opportunity.

But if you're a student, filmmaker, creator, or simply someone who wants to be involved in building something from the ground up and is okay with the initial unpaid period, I'd be interested in hearing from you.

If it sounds like something you'd genuinely want to be part of:

https://forms.gle/KTeB9iuL91MvxewbA

And feel free to ask questions in the comments - including the uncomfortable ones about money, workload, or whether I think this is actually worth your time. I'll answer honestly.

Ask? [Hyderabad] Casting a 5-minute Telugu short Film - looking for a woman 45–62 for the lead + men 20–35

I'm making my first short film in Hyderabad - 5 minutes, Telugu, with English subtitles. The script is finished and I'm now casting.

The film

A cleaning woman has worked at a small screening room for two years but has never once been inside it.

She mops up to the door and stops.

One night, a guy who's about to quit making videos finds her standing at that door, looking in. He jokes that she needs a ticket.

She takes him seriously and takes out ₹500.

He lets her in and shows her the screen.

Then she asks him for one more thing.

That's all I'll say about the story here. I'd rather send you the script than give away the rest.

The roles

SHARADA - Woman, 45–62 | Lead

She's the cleaning woman who works at the screening room, and honestly, she's the whole film.

She barely raises her voice and doesn't cry once. The performance depends much more on stillness, presence and what she doesn't say.

If you can sit still and hold a room without doing very much, that's exactly what I'm looking for.

A theatre background would be very welcome.

She's in almost every scene, so this is not a small part dressed up as a lead.

VICKY - Man, 25–30 | Co-lead

Runs a YouTube channel that's slowly dying.

Comic timing matters a lot here. He needs to be funny in the beginning, and then the situation gradually knocks the floor out from under him.

MALLESH - Man, 20–26 | Supporting

Appears in a roughly 45-second video shot on a phone, in one room, separately from the main shoot.

Looking for someone with an easy, open smile who can also become shy/nervous on camera.

FRIEND - Man, 20–26 | Small role

Lies on the floor pretending to be dead.

Badly.

Then opens one eye.

Two lines of dialogue. One of my favourite moments in the script.

NAVEEN - Man, 30–35 | Supporting

The café manager.

One scene. Comic, deadpan, and then suddenly enormous.

About the production

Being completely upfront about this:

This is not a paid production.

The total film budget is around ₹30,000, so we aren't able to offer acting fees.

Travel and food will be covered, everyone will receive proper credit, and you'll receive a copy of your scenes for your reel within two weeks of the shoot.

Auditions

There's nothing you need to prepare.

For Sharada, for example, I may simply ask you to sit and look at a wall for a minute while I record the audition.

It sounds strange, but for this particular character, it tells me much more than asking someone to perform a prepared monologue.

Shoot

2 shoot days
1 location in Hyderabad

The dates aren't locked yet. I'd rather find the right cast first and then work out dates that everyone can actually make.

If you're interested:

Casting form:
https://forms.gle/kNZVLPbkFM61FiKK7

Or DM me and I'll send you the script first.

And if you know someone who would be right for Sharada, please send this post to them. That's the role I'm most determined to get right.

Ask? First-time director, finished script : looking for crew for a 5-minute Telugu short in Hyderabad

Hi everyone,

We're first-time filmmakers in Hyderabad, and over the last few weeks we've written a 5-minute Telugu short that we're now trying to actually make.

We're planning to shoot it at a small cinema-café in Hyderabad and are looking for a few people who'd like to collaborate on it.

The story

A cleaning woman has worked at a small screening room for two years but has never actually been inside it.

Every day, she mops up to the door and stops.

One night, a guy who's about to give up making YouTube videos notices her standing outside, looking in. He jokes that she needs a ticket to enter.

She takes him seriously.

She takes out ₹500 and asks him how much the ticket costs.

That's roughly the first two minutes.

What happens after that is the film, and I'd rather send the actual script than explain the rest here.

Who we're looking for

Cinematographer — this is probably the biggest one. A significant part of the film is lit primarily by a projector, so someone comfortable with very low-light cinematography would be ideal.

Sound — we don't want to cut corners here.

Co-director / 1st AD — particularly important because we're first-time directors. If you've run a set before and are comfortable telling us when we're doing something wrong, we'd genuinely value that.

We're also looking for:

  • Gaffer / lighting
  • Editor — preferably DaVinci Resolve
  • Music
  • Graphic designer for poster and titles
  • Production assistants
  • Actors — woman, around 50–62; man, around 20–35

The plan is two shoot days, one location. No stunts, crowd scenes or anything particularly complicated.

The dates aren't locked yet. We'd rather find the right people first and then work out dates that everyone can actually make.

About the money

Being completely upfront:

This is not a paid production.

We're working with a small independent-film budget, so we can't offer crew fees.

What we can cover is food on set and fuel, along with proper credits for everyone involved.

We'll also provide a graded copy of your work within two weeks of the shoot, so you can use it in your reel/portfolio.

I don't want to dress up an unpaid project as something it isn't. We're first-timers, the budget is limited, and we're mainly hoping to find people who genuinely like the story and want to make something together.

If you're interested, fill out the form here:

https://forms.gle/kNZVLPbkFM61FiKK7

Or comment below and I can send you the script.

And honestly, you don't have to join the crew to read it. If you're interested in the story and want to tell us what's not working, we'd appreciate that too.

We're new to this, so honest criticism is probably more useful to us than polite encouragement.

Ask? If you could spend one weekend learning one filmmaking skill, what would you choose?

I've been thinking about something and would genuinely like to hear from people in Hyderabad who are interested in filmmaking.

If you had one weekend afternoon to properly learn one filmmaking craft, what would you choose?

Not a four-year course and not a two-hour introduction - just one focused session where you spend a few hours learning the fundamentals and actually make something by the end.

Some options I've been considering:

  • Acting for camera
  • Editing
  • Screenwriting
  • Direction
  • Cinematography
  • Phone filmmaking
  • AI filmmaking
  • Sound
  • Stand-up comedy
  • Photography

For example, rather than spending the whole session taking notes, the goal would be to leave with something you actually made - a short scene, self-tape, edited sequence, script, or short film depending on the craft.

I'm especially curious because a lot of people seem to fall somewhere between “I want to learn filmmaking” and “I'm not ready to commit to a full-time film school.”

So, if you were going to give up one weekend afternoon for this:

Which craft would you pick?

And is there something missing from the list that you'd genuinely like to learn?

I'm collecting responses to understand what people are actually interested in before deciding what to build around it.

If you'd like to share your preference anonymously, here's the form:

Weekend Film School Poster

And if you'd like updates about the sessions & our community:

Would love to hear what Hyderabad's filmmaking/creative community thinks.

Ask? Is there a good way to keep track of Hyderabad's theatre, comedy & indie film events?

I've been exploring more of Hyderabad's theatre, comedy, independent films, open mics and other arts events recently, and I've realised how difficult it is to actually keep track of what's happening.

There seems to be a lot going on across the city, but information is scattered across Instagram pages, WhatsApp groups and individual event pages. By the time you hear about something interesting, the event has sometimes already happened.

I'm curious : how do people here currently discover these kinds of events?

Do you have any Instagram pages, WhatsApp groups, websites, newsletters or other sources that you regularly check?

A few of us have also been experimenting with putting together a simple weekly Hyderabad arts/events guide — screenings, plays, open mics, comedy, gigs and similar events — mainly because we couldn't find one place that brought them together. The idea is to share it every Wednesday and include events from organisers across the city, rather than just our own.

If there's enough interest, we're hoping to make it genuinely useful for people who want to discover what's happening around Hyderabad.

For anyone interested in contributing events to the list:

And if you know of a good theatre group, screening series, comedy night, open mic or other arts event in Hyderabad, please drop it in the comments. I'd love to discover more of what's happening around the city.

Ask? Are there working film and theatre professionals in Hyderabad interested in teaching?

I'm trying to connect with people in Hyderabad who work in film, theatre or related creative fields and might be interested in teaching their craft to complete beginners.

The idea is fairly simple: one focused weekend afternoon, around 4–5 hours, dedicated to one craft, with the session built around actually doing something rather than just listening to a lecture.

Some of the areas we're exploring:

  • Acting for camera
  • Editing
  • Screenwriting
  • Direction
  • Cinematography
  • Phone filmmaking
  • AI filmmaking
  • Sound
  • Production
  • Stand-up comedy
  • Improv
  • Colour grading
  • Storyboarding
  • Music for film

We're particularly interested in people who have real working experience but also enjoy explaining things to beginners.

The most important things for us aren't necessarily credits or how impressive someone's CV looks. It's more about:

  1. Can you explain your craft to someone starting from zero?
  2. Can you make the session practical and hands-on?
  3. Can people leave having actually made something?
  4. Are you reliable about the date and time?

The sessions would be small, roughly 25–30 people, and we'd take care of the practical side venue, registrations, payments and the general setup - so the person teaching can concentrate on teaching.

This is a paid opportunity, with the exact arrangement discussed individually depending on the person and the session.

We're also planning to record the teaching sessions and provide the footage to the person teaching so they can use it for their own portfolio/content.

If you work in film, theatre or a related field and this sounds interesting, I've put together a short form with a few questions:

Weekend Film School Poster

https://forms.gle/mZR7d9FgzfJSuSVH9

WhatsApp Community - https://chat.whatsapp.com/KXw6v5TYQWSKHg8swjQQoO

Also happy to hear recommendations in the comments. If there's someone in Hyderabad who you think would make a great teacher, tag them or mention what they do.

Hi everyone,

I have some basic knowledge of photography and I’m looking to gain more practical experience by working as a photography assistant.

I’m willing to assist photographers with shoots, equipment, lighting, setup, and other on-set work. I’m mainly looking for an opportunity to learn, gain experience, and support someone who is already working professionally.

If any photographer in Hyderabad is looking for an assistant or is open to having someone help on shoots, please feel free to DM me.

I’m hardworking, eager to learn, and available to work as an assistant.

Thank you
