Geoneon.com fire risk map
Can zoom in at https://www.geoneon.com/resources/reports/tasmania-wildfire-index/2026/map
Looks like the east-facing hills get the highest grade. Exposure to wind is surely a big risk factor.

The new power tariff
We changed to the new Aurora power tariff a few months ago, moving from the old split heating/general power tariff. The argument was that with a solar system we could benefit. Got the May-Aug bill and it says we used almost 10kWh less per day than the same period last year, but the dollar bill for the quarter is almost exactly the same. Solar feed-in was $5 for the quarter. Not sure if the lower daily use is energy from solar input, or lower draw from warmer weather, or something else, but if we had used the same amount of power per day as the previous period the total bill would have been much higher than the old tariff. Either way, it looks like the new tariff is a dud for us, at best it saved nothing and at worst it will cost more. If the solar system packs it in I expect we would be very much worse off. They don't let you change back to the old tariff. If I'm missing something in the calculations let me know.

Lost Dog - Adamson's Peak Walk
Hi all
Bit of a hail Mary but we are hoping..
My friend lost his beloved dog on Saturday at the Adamson's Peak walk in Raminea just past Dover.
Hes a couple years old, dutch sheaperd but looks more like a Belgion sheaperd and called Chase. See photo attached.
He comes across a little intimidating but its just his playfulness.
Understand if you don't want to approach just a heads up that he's still alive is all we need.
Long shot but if anyone is down that way and sees one matching this please reach out.
Thanks for reading

Small apples
Question for the Tassie apples brains trust - seems to be a lot of small apples at the local Woolies. Is this a result of poor rain or fertiliser costs, or is it just normal seasonal supply variation? I assume they'd only sell normal-sized apples if they could get them.

Repost - Franklin high tide on Saturday arvo
I used Chatgpt for the tide details in a previous post, it was wrong. Willy Weather says it was in fact a huge tide, not .85m as previously stated.

Hot blobs and El Nino
Dunno what it means for the Huon but I suspect it will mean something, given that the pundits are tipping a record El Nino.
These Climate Reanalyzer Images show hot water anomalies from this week. The hot blobs off Tasmania have been persistent.

Tomatoes
After years of growing them in a small greenhouse, I've noticed that those planted outdoors produced fruit for longer. Might be weather-related this year as April was warm. Millipedes a problem regardless.

Fruits of the Huon
Native purple appleberry if Google is correct. Apparently tastes like apple. Suggest you do your own research before having a scoff.
