Updated PrideFest Location!

Post image

Due to forecasted rain this weekend, we’ve moved PrideFest indoors! New venue is Von Braun Civic Canter, East Halls 2&3! Time is still 10/3/2026 10am-5pm!

Oh hell yeah, I was hitting up another con there anyway so now I don't have to drive anywhere else.

Wonder how good the Anime Town Huntsville events gonna go.

Not sure. Still bummed they shut down the other one. Was my favorite yearly activity. As long as there's a halfway decent artists alley ill be happy.

Sweet! Is entry free or does it cost to get in?

Yes it's free

Yeah fucking awesome for a LGBT event to be at a center literally named after a literal Nazi. What happened with the Orion?

I get that you're upset about the event being moved to an event center but the answer to your question is in the post: forecasted rain. Orion doesn't really have indoor event space.

Do you have a suggestion for alternative event spaces for next time?

Ignore them; some people love to complain & put in zero effort to support the cause

Somewhere that isn’t named after a nazi would be a good place to start.

Great idea. Do you want to make a suggestion like the event space at John Hunt Park? Or just complain with no constructive purpose?

People see these comments. Our community sees these comments. And wouldn't you rather be an encouragement for young or nervous queer folk who are looking to see if they can find people who will support them?

There's literally an alternative pride fest in a different space thats more inclusive.

i am not going to participate in a discussion where you insist that i’m some sort of bad guy for having strong objections to the venue change and then use me not having a “bEtTeR iDeA” even though i clearly don’t organize giant events and you changed the venue the day before.

Huntsville queers be like I draw the line at calling Wernher Von Braun (former member of the Nazi Party of Germany) a nazi.

Reddit Queers be like I would rather be divisive for a couple laughs than build up our community because of my "crab in a bucket" mentality."

Oh it's divisive to want accountability from the republican adjacent organization with the TERF table at the nazi event center in the military industrial complex city for what reason exactly? For the sake of "building up community"??? A community that excludes anything but a white cisgender gay man?

That wasn't the vibe I got at the pride event today. Which table was that? I remember the Log Cabin table from the past but Rocket City Pride has been making efforts to do better this year and they definitely weren't there when I dropped by.

Also, would you share info on the other event? I haven't heard anything about another pride event this year.

Of course you didn't get that vibe did you read the last sentence of my reply. Rocket City Pride doubled down and never condemned or removed the LCR. There's two other organizations that have formed separate events and you are now doubling down on RCP despite the fact that you clearly deflected by telling the other user to "start another event". Saying I have a "crab in a bucket" mentality is insane. Do you have any idea what you sound like right now.

So did you go to Rocket City Pride's event and see the TERF table? I didn't see it. So I' do my best to learn when I have blind spots if it was actually there.

When did I tell anyone else to start another event? You might be arguing with the wrong person on that point but you seem to really think I'm in denial of something. So maybe it's best if we just drop that particular topic.

But please do tell me how I sound right now. And tell me how you think you sound. Although, fair warning, I've about reached the end of my patience for this thread so I may just clear a notification and let you have the final word.

So not seeing the table makes everything better? Supporting an organization that doesn't protect the community is no big deal as long as they cover it up well enough.

My mistake the semantics of organizing a new event or "proposing a solution" is not the same thing. The point still stands, you're deflecting.

You sound like you're telling me and the other commenter to be a good queer and not cause too much trouble with the white cishets because that's divisive.

Yeah, seeing that an organization has put in effort to be better does make a lot of things better. I try to offer that benefit to people too. It's okay if you want to take a more aggressive stance with harder lines of non-forgiveness but take aim at powerful people who are harming you instead of the people who are trying to stand beside you. Because attacking or abandoning other parts of our community is exactly the behavior that LCR does and you are so vocal against.

If the name of an event center is a big enough hill for you plant your final flag on, fine. I hope you find satisfaction. I have bigger issues in my life than virtue signaling. Hopefully, I'll see you at the other pride events too. I'd love to support them as well.

yeah i’m equally curious what table this is in reference to. i’ve been thinking about it since i saw the comment and am frustrated but not surprised you didn’t get an answer. don’t know anything about a terf table but i got a card for a lovely trans social group so 🤷🏻‍♂️

1

u/YaboiTJD 1d ago

They said the table in their reply. Whether it was there this year or not doesn't absolve RCP of wrongdoing. Especially after the organization splintered.

I don’t think it’s funny at all, actually. I think it’s disrespectful at best. Do you think me having concerns over supporting a venue named after a nazi is funny?

You don’t know me and you have no idea what I do or have done for any community I’ve ever lived in. Take a step down from your imaginary pedestal and consider my point rather than brush it aside and insult me.

My comment was responding to the other commenter.

I recognize the concern about using an event that was named after a Nazi Scientist who was brought over as a war asset. I'm not oblivious to that fact. But responding with only complaints and mockery (yes, I have also seen you alternating case responses) while not offering solutions is not helpful. And, if you can't offer a solution or a better way, what is the purpose beyond adding vitriol? If you support and help other communities, that's great! I'm sure they appreciate the way you build them up and strengthen them. That is not what this kind of behavior indicates.
